There is nothing new about the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we reviewed the Galaxy M20 (Review), which is one of Samsung’s first aggressive devices, we talked about how it looks and how it differs from the company’s previous designs. Likewise, the Galaxy A50s could be mistaken for one of the many phones from today’s big brands, no matter which angle you look at it.
Samsung Galaxy A50s Review With Pros And Cons
The front of this phone is all-screen, with a small camera notch at the top (Samsung calls this ‘Infinity-U’ design). The corners of the face are rounded, and the chin is very thick while the sides and upper border are narrow. The edges are slightly curved, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we’ve reviewed that doesn’t come with a plastic screen protector attached, which we don’t mind.
On the back, there is one personal touch that Samsung has decided to show you – an off-center geometric pattern with cross lines of different colors on each part. There are three options: Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, and Prism Crush Violet – our review unit is the black version, but the background colors are mostly gray.
Thankfully, this design isn’t as prone to picking up smudges and fingerprints on the screen as the Galaxy A50’s screen, but it still needs to be wiped down a few times a day to keep it looking its best. There’s still a slight prismatic effect under certain lighting conditions, though it’s more subtle than what we’ve seen before on this phone.
There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom, along with a 3.5mm audio jack and a single speaker. The tray on the left has space for two Nano-SIMs and a microSD card. The power and volume buttons are all on the right and the top is empty.

At 166g and only 7.7mm thick, the Galaxy A50s is very easy to hold and handle. You have to stretch a bit to get to the top of the 6.4-inch screen, but no complaints. The build quality is very good, even though this phone is still plastic and not very expensive. There is also no information about the type of glass used for the screen.
We didn’t notice any scratches or dents on the frame or back panel during the review, but we used this phone with a plastic case. Fortunately, one is included in the trading box. Samsung also includes a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a SIM removal tool, and a quick release guide.
The first thing you’ll notice about this phone when you turn it on is the Super AMOLED display. It is 6.4 inches wide, but can be cut to 6.2 inches if you measure using rounded corners. The resolution is full HD at 1080×2340. There is a notch at the top for the front camera, and the integrated fingerprint sensor is placed in the right position.
Samsung used its own octa-core Exynos 9611 processor, which seems to be a slight improvement on the Exynos 9610 featured in the Galaxy A50. You get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processors and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 processors, along with Mali-G72 graphics. This chip has the same CPU, GPU, and LTE as its predecessor but supports higher camera resolutions.

We bring you the new feature of this phone, its 48-megapixel f/2 primary rear camera. It is paired with an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front-facing camera has been upgraded to a 32-megapixel resolution and f/2 aperture.
There are two variants of this phone, but both have 128GB of storage. The only difference is that you get 4GB for Rs. 22, 999 or 6GB RAM for Rs. 24, 999. This is similar to Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy A50, and we think it’s unfair to have two similar options. You may not notice much of a difference if you use a lot of heavy duty apps and games.
The battery is quite large at 4000mAh, and can charge at 15W fast although you get a 10W charger in the box. Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC, and FM radio are available.
Our unit came with version 1.5 of Samsung’s One UI software, running on top of Android 9 and the August 2019 security update. One UI is designed specifically for large-screen phones, and while it may look sleek and modern, we’re not fans. of large signs and wide area everywhere. There’s a lot of white space in the menus and overall the large screen doesn’t seem to be used well, especially in the notification shade and the Settings app which requires a lot of scrolling. The Super AMOLED panel allows for an ambient display, although by default the phone is set to one click when the phone is waiting to see the time and status indicators. You can set it to always be visible at all times or between certain times.

You also have more control over what appears on the lock screen, with a choice of animated wallpapers or collections of cycling images.
