Update Samsung A50 Mobile Ka Price Review – We started this year with an avalanche of affordable Galaxy M-series and A-series smartphones from Samsung as part of the company’s plan to fight Xiaomi, Realme, and others on their own terms. Samsung Rs. Fixed all areas of scheduled value in between. 8,000 and Rs. 20, 000 in a very short time, thanks to a large number of models and variations sometimes in many ways. It’s been a while since the launch, and Samsung’s competitors have been updating their slates, so it was inevitable that we’d see updated models from the Korean giant.
The brand new Samsung Galaxy A50s is priced at Rs. 22, 999, a slight increase in cost compared to the Galaxy A50 (review). It joins the group shortly after the launch of the high-end Redmi K20 ( review ), and other flagship-grade phones have seen a price drop that puts them in this segment. Which of these phones can you go for in a budget of around Rs. 25,000? We review the Samsung Galaxy A50s to find out.

There is nothing new about the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we tested the Galaxy M20 (review), one of Samsung’s first aggressive models, we noticed how generic it felt and how it broke from the company’s previous designs. Likewise, the Galaxy A50s could easily be mistaken for any phone from today’s leading brands, no matter what angle you look at it.

The front of this phone has multiple screens, with a small notch for the camera at the top (Samsung calls this design ‘Infinity-U’). The corners of the screen are rounded, and there is a fairly thick chin while the side and top edges are very narrow. The edges are slightly curved, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we’ve looked at of late that doesn’t come with a plastic guard already attached, which we don’t like, and appreciate.
On the back, we have a personality phone that Samsung decided to show – a geometric pattern that is not in the middle of the criss crossing lines and different colors in each section. There are three options: Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, and Prism Crush Violet – our review unit is the black version, but the background colors are different shades of gray.
Thankfully, this design isn’t as prone to picking up smudges and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s mirror-like finish, but it still needs to be cleaned several times a day to keep it looking its best. There’s still a slight prismatic effect under certain types of lighting, though it’s more subtle than the psychedelic look we saw on the phone’s front.
There is a USB Type-C port at the bottom, as well as a 3.5mm audio socket and one speaker. The tray on the left has slots for two nano-SIMs and a microSD card. The power and volume buttons are all on the right, and the top is empty.

At 166g and just 7.7mm thick, the Galaxy A50s is incredibly easy to hold and live with. You may need to stretch a little to reach the top of the 6.4-inch screen, but otherwise we have no complaints. The build quality is also very good, although the phone still feels like plastic and isn’t very premium. What type of glass is used for the screen is not mentioned.
We didn’t see any scuffs or scratches on the frame or back panel during our review, but we’ll be using this phone in a plastic case. Thankfully, one is included in the retail box. Samsung also includes a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a 3.5mm wired headset, a SIM eject tool, and a quick start guide.
The first thing you’ll notice about this phone when you open it is the crisp, bright Super AMOLED screen. It measures 6.4 inches, but if you measure using the rounded corners it’s about 6.2 inches. The resolution is Full-HD+ at 1080×2340. There is a notch at the top for the front camera, and the integrated fingerprint sensor is conveniently placed.
Samsung used its octa-core Exynos 9611 processor, which appears to be a slight upgrade from the Exynos 9610 featured in the Galaxy A50. You get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 cores, and Mali-G72 graphics. This chip has the same CPU, GPU, and LTE as before but supports higher camera resolutions.

That brings us to the phone’s one big thing, its 48-megapixel f/2 main camera on the back. It is rounded off by an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front-facing camera is improved with a 32-megapixel resolution and f/2 aperture.
There are two variants of this phone, but both have 128GB of storage. The only difference is that you have to spend Rs. You get 4 GB. 22,999 or 6 GB RAM for Rs. 24, 999. It’s similar to what Samsung is offering with the Galaxy A50, and we don’t think it’s necessary to have two similar options. Unless you’re using heavy duty apps and games you’re unlikely to notice much of a difference.
The battery is very large at 4000mAh, and 15W fast charging is possible even though you get a 10W charger in the box. Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC, and FM radio are all available.
Our unit came with version 1.5 of Samsung’s One UI software, which runs on top of Android 9 with the August 2019 security update. The UI is designed mainly for screen phones and while it looks nice and modern, we’re not fans of big icons and wide spaces everywhere. Thankfully you can adjust the size and density of the home screen and app drawer using their settings.

There’s plenty of white space in the menus and it all feels like the big screen is being used perfectly, especially in the notification shade and Settings app where a lot of scrolling is required. That said, the ability to drag menus and controls so that even the top lines are accessible by clicking. There are many features including Secure Folder, Samsung Pay, Kids space, Night Mode, Floating Apps, and Dual Messenger app cloning with independent contact list.
Now long press the power button to invoke the Bixby voice assistant. To turn off your phone, there is a small power button on the screen in the quick toggle that you reveal by swiping down from the top of the screen. There is also a Bixby home screen to the left of the original home screen, with useful panels such as sports scores and reminders, but also advertising content.
Bixby Routing allows you to combine multiple commands with simple “if…then” conditions. For example, you can tell the Galaxy A50s to change its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth status, sound profile, customized display, screen lock shortcuts, and accessibility settings, and perform certain tasks such as opening a website or sending an SMS. All of these can be triggered once you leave or enter a location, connect an accessory, open a specific app, receive a call, and/or connect to a specific Bluetooth device.
The Super AMOLED panel allows for an ambient display, although the phone automatically requires a single tap when in standby mode to see the time and status indicators. You can set it to be visible all the time or only between specified times.

You have a lot of control over what content appears on the lock screen, as well as a selection of animated wallpapers or a collection of images to cycle through. Lock screen stories are snippets of content, some of which are ads, that will appear every time you wake your phone from sleep. This can be disabled during the first Android setup process.
Samsung also decided to implement its panel feature, which we previously only saw on high-end phones with curved glass sides. This slim-looking tab can be placed on either side of the screen, and you swipe inside it to bring up one or more vertical strips that contain shortcuts to contacts or apps, or widgets, or feed content. Additional Edge panels can be downloaded through Samsung’s Galaxy Store.
There are only a few preloaded apps: Facebook, Netflix, OneDrive, and Samsung’s Galaxy Store and Games launcher. When we set up this phone, we were told that apps will be “put to sleep” if they haven’t been used for three days or more, which means they won’t update their content and you won’t receive certain notifications. It can be turned off in the battery settings, but you should still be aware that the default setting is unusual and may cause unexpected delays.
