And I think this is where the Galaxy A50 comes in. The original price of the A50 was now $350, but you can buy this phone right now for $270. Now, when you hear that price, you’d think it would have a cheaper build quality, terrible display, lackluster camera performance, poor battery life, and fewer features compared to its flagship sibling like the Galaxy S10 and others. But after switching to the Galaxy A50 for a while, I’m really impressed with this phone for what it offers for the price. I realized how cheap phones are getting better and this saying is becoming very popular these days. So let me introduce you to my experience using the Galaxy A50.
So the first thing I noticed right after picking up the A50 is how good it feels in the hand. The downside is that it’s made of plastic, but they’ve done a really good job of replicating the glass back like the S10. One of the advantages of a plastic body is that if you accidentally drop it, it’s much less likely to break or shatter than a glass-backed design. I remember the Note 9 days, people, it was not good.

Next is the screen, and this is one of the best features of the A50. First of all, I’m completely flat, so you won’t have curved screens like the Galaxy S10, which is great. It also gives a secure feeling when holding the device as you have a lot of grip. The screen itself is beautiful. It’s a 6.4-inch 1080P Super AMOLED display. The colors are vibrant, you still have those deep blacks and it felt like I was using a flagship Android which is very impressive. I will say it is slightly bigger than the S10. In fact, it’s almost the same size as the S10 Plus, so one-handed operation might be a little difficult for people with smaller hands.

Samsung decided to remove the notch on the A50 and instead put a small corner style on the top, similar to the OnePlus 6T and some other phones. It’s not really intrusive. You can actually hide it through the settings, so that’s good.
You only have one mono speaker on the bottom, which means you can accidentally block it with your finger, which can be a little annoying. Now the sound quality itself is not that great. I definitely experienced some distortion in the high frequencies and it wasn’t really the best experience, so I would recommend pairing this phone with a good pair of headphones for the best sound quality.
Also, this might seem like a bonus from the S10, but there’s no dedicated Bixby button on the A50, so that’s fine. In addition, the volume rocker and power button are on the right side. They are easier to reach and the quality of the buttons is just right, showing good tactile feedback, so no complaints.
Now you can choose the Galaxy A series in different sizes, but the specifications and camera layout differ slightly depending on the model. It starts on the A10 and then continues to the A50. The A50 I have is equipped with an Exynos 9610 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The advantage is that you can expand it up to 512 GB. Now it’s not the fastest phone. The specs aren’t the best and that’s to be expected for the price. But remember that specs don’t really paint the whole picture. Again, it’s about the overall experience of using the phone, and since I’ve only had it for a little over a week, it’s actually pretty good. However, the multitasking performance is the biggest drawback and I think this is due to the 4GB of RAM. And when you combine that with Samsung’s One UI, it tends to struggle here and there.
The in-display fingerprint scanner is also quite slow when it comes to unlocking the device. I ran into a lot of issues where it just wouldn’t recognize my thumb. So I had to rely on the old school pattern unlock method. Face Unlock is now there and it’s a bit faster, but it’s not really secure and sometimes it’s hit or miss.
You really have to be patient when using the Galaxy A50. For example, if you’re used to straight-up budget phones, say under $300, if you don’t mind apps loading instantly, the A50 really won’t disappoint. you But if I were to compare it with the Galaxy S10, you will lose some features such as wireless power sharing, wireless charging, IP68 waterproof, you will also lose stereo speakers, a telephoto lens and the fastest. SOC and display as sharp as possible. So with the A50, you really get a phone that does a lot of basic things right.
Now, before we get into camera performance, I want to quickly talk about battery life. And in a word, it’s amazing. So the A50 has a 4000mAh battery and we’re suggesting a phone with a relatively power efficient exynos 9610 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 1080P display, I was able to easily push this guy through two days worth of watching. one charge. That said, check this screen early. It’s impressive.

So if that doesn’t work, let’s go to those cameras. Now don’t think that the A50 comes with a triple camera setup like the S10 and S10 Plus, it doesn’t. In fact, you only get an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 25MP standard lens. Up top is a 5MP depth camera complete with Live Focus, Samsung’s version of portrait mode. As for the pictures, I was quite intrigued as I looked at them one by one. The fact that a wide-angle lens is included is very refreshing to see on a phone at this price point in 2019.
The samples you see here have a good balance of contrast and saturation. You can play with the wide angle lens and get a distorted, interesting and strange look. It certainly lacks detail and the effect of additional sharpening from Samsung doesn’t really do much. I should mention that you lose focus control when shooting wide, so it’s a bit limiting. The primary camera takes decent pictures, but lacks consistency.
You can see that this is a wide angle shot. It’s a bit underexposed, but when I switch straight to the main camera, the white balance is off. It’s a bit over the top and when you’re on HDR it really doesn’t look that real in some cases. If you’re patient enough, you can walk away with some great shots. And the daytime portrait mode or live focus works quite well. Again, the Pixel 3a isn’t great, but if you’re a regular social media user, you’ll be fine.
Low light performance is pretty terrible, but I expected that. There’s no detail and it’s almost identical to the Galaxy S10, so I can’t really complain here. But looking at these samples, what do you think? Is it impressive for under $300?

So this is a video test of the Galaxy A50 and as you can see I can use the ultra wide lens of this camera to shoot video unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro which can’t, which is a bit silly right: The colors are really nice and vibrant. I think the details are good too. Samsung has always been really good at autofocus with their phone cameras, so this is really good. I think it lacks a bit of dynamic range because you can see that the sky is a bit blown out and it crushes the shadows.
So, moving on to the Galaxy A50 front camera tests, I’m really impressed with what this phone can do in terms of video. Now I’m trying to figure it out or try to compensate
