Update Samsung A12 Price 3 32 Review – Now, I know we mostly showcase more expensive devices here, but this time we got our hands on one of Samsung’s cheapest, if not the cheapest, new options, the Galaxy A12.
Design tastes like blue When we say cheap, we mean really cheap. The phone starts at $180, and for the price, it’s very well built.

It’s an all-plastic build, but we think the blue color and textured back make it really fun to hold. Also, one or two cool things here. We have dual SIM support with a dedicated micro SD card slot and a headphone jack.

Just to keep your expectations in check, the back feels a little hollow and flexes inward when you press it.
Otherwise, for security, you get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that does an excellent job. A few read errors or two are possible, but we found them to be relatively quick and reliable.
And last but not least, we have a single bottom speaker that is a little quiet, but also doesn’t distort too much when listening at maximum volume.
Fortunately, the screen isn’t bright enough to use outdoors easily, but it should work if you plan on reading a quick message or two while taking the dog for a walk. At least it gets a little dark so you don’t accidentally go blind during the night.

The panel isn’t AMOLED, so don’t expect amazing colors, but the IPS technology it’s equipped with is at least immune to burn-in, doesn’t ghost, and still produces colors good enough for the average person. Another thing to note is that you don’t get high refresh rates and its resolution is 720×1600 pixels, but that’s to be expected at this price point.

Camera Just Works In terms of the camera, we are very happy. With enough sunlight, we were able to take some pretty good photos with decent sharpness.
The photos don’t really impress us, but they are perfect for an average use case. We have no complaints here. And the HDR performance is actually very good. Because shadows are well exposed even in sunny conditions, the sky is rarely overexposed.
You also get a secondary ultra-wide camera here and it’s not very sharp, but it still yields some cool photos of your vacation.
Zooming in is not something we recommend, as there are no dedicated lenses for this, but some photos look very good and the colors, in fact, are very beautiful.

The subject comes out very well cropped in most cases and the selfie camera is also very good if it receives enough light.
But our demand. Night mode would have been a good feature to include here because it is quite useful for some people and the lack of it limits us in the photos we can take at night.
For example, you can’t see a face here, so our colleague had to move to a place with more light.
And we also have a macro camera here, which we think is mostly a gimmick. It produces good colors and takes photos up close, but it’s not as sharp and we would have preferred the budget to be different.

The videos aren’t that bad. You can shoot up to 1080p at 30 fps. It’s not really amazing or anything, but the quality is at least perfect for some family videos or similar while on vacation. But another thing we should mention, this device’s microphone has a little difficulty recording voices when there is background noise, so keep that in mind if you plan on taking a video in a crowded place or near a busy street. And don’t expect any form of video stabilization here, which could be the biggest problem if you actually plan on filming while walking.
Well, let’s put it this way, it’s not winning races, but it’s not frustratingly slow or unstable.
The Galaxy A12 is equipped with a budget Helio P35 SoC. It’s not really made for gaming or anything like that, so it was difficult when we tested some Minecraft on it, but watching videos and browsing the web were a few things to do with ease. We mainly browsed Reddit and watched some videos on YouTube and managed to catch some glitches.
We also noticed that it doesn’t get very hot while playing Minecraft, so that’s cool. No pun intended.

You’ll notice that apps take a while to open, but when they do, they generally work well. Having such a weak processor also has the surprising advantage of consuming very little power.
Battery How big is too big? The battery capacity you can find here is around 5000mAh. And that is simply incredible. You can expect more than 2 days of use if you don’t use the phone much. But again, just like any other device on the market, if you use it regularly, you’ll probably have to charge it the same day. You get a fast charger in the box for free, but remember that “fast” here is only 15 watts and it still takes a few hours to fully charge the battery.
You get a cool blue textured design, a pretty good camera for family vacations, decent performance for everything but gaming, and a battery so big the engineers probably had to give the phone some extra space on the back.
But we’re not sure this is the perfect device at this price. Make a sacrifice in your performance. For example, for the same price, you can get the Oneplus Nord N100 and it comes with a more powerful processor and a decent performing camera.

Or if you’re looking for something even more powerful, the Moto G Power has a Snapdragon 662 that will wipe the floor with the A12 for just 20 dollars more.
So it depends a little more on preference and what exactly you need in a device. In general, we’re impressed with what cheap phones can do now, but what about you?
