Update Samsung A01 Core Price Review – The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core is finally official. Samsung has limited itself to the devices necessary to be able to reduce the price below 60 euros, and thanks to the Android 10 Go edition, the performance should still be usable.
After seeing the budget Galaxy A01 Core in the first images a few weeks ago, Samsung has officially unveiled the entry-level smartphone in Indonesia. The device has received another price reduction compared to the regular Galaxy A01 (about 135 € on Amazon) to be able to further reduce the price.
Update Samsung A01 Core Price Review
The Galaxy A01 Core features the MediaTek MT6739 – SoC 2017 which relies on four ARM Cortex-A53 computing cores clocked at up to 1.5 GHz. There’s also GB of RAM, and 16 or 32 GB of flash storage, depending on the model. Samsung relies on the slim Go version of Android 10, which is also used by the Nokia 1.3 (about € 106 at Amazon), so the device will perform well despite the rather tight hardware.

The Galaxy A01 Core has a 5.3-inch PLS LCD with HD+ resolution in 18.5:9 format with prominent display bezels on the top and bottom, but Samsung can at least avoid the hole with a notch or a punch hole . It also has a 5-megapixel selfie camera and an 8 MP camera on the back. The smartphone also packs a 3,000mAh battery and an AUX port that charges via micro-USB rather than USB-C, presumably for cost reasons.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core is now available in Indonesia for IDR 999,000 (~€59), but we still have no information about a possible European release.

If you have $100 to spend on a phone, you want a fully functional phone. Fortunately, the Galaxy A01 can do just that.

The Galaxy A01 is a no-frills, low-cost Android phone, the cheapest of Samsung’s A-series budget phones. Priced at $150 (though we’ve seen it unlocked from Samsung for as low as $100), the phone’s basic hardware and features — like its simple design and low-key display — don’t make it any easier. . But the phone covers enough of the basics that it should be a decent device for taking pictures, checking emails, watching videos, and of course making calls because of its low price.
Samsung Galaxy A01 Review
Because of its better camera specs and updated operating system, I prefer the Galaxy A01 to Motorola Moto E6 2019 and Moto G6 2018, which are also $100-$150 now. However, the A01 lasted just under 12 hours on our battery test, so if you want something more powerful and can spend an extra $100, consider the Moto G Power. In addition to the triple rear camera system and a sharper display, the G Power lasted more than 24 hours on our battery test.
The A01 has a 5.7-inch LCD display. While watching videos was fine, the phone’s 720p resolution meant I couldn’t watch videos at the sharper 1080p resolution, where many YouTube videos are available. Some icons on the screen (like the camera) look blurry when inspected up close, and overall the LCD screen isn’t as vibrant and rich as the Galaxy A51’s OLED display.
The A01 is slim and compact enough to navigate with one hand, and has a teardrop notch for the front-facing camera, giving it a modern look. At the top is the headphone jack, and the back of the phone has two small slits for audio speaker grills. This is something to be aware of; whenever you put the phone down to watch a video, the sound will be slightly muted no matter what surface the phone is resting on. I didn’t hear much difference when it was on my desk compared to my phone, but when I put the A01 on my bed and watched a video, the sound faded a bit.
The Galaxy A01’s camera takes sharp, colorful shots in good light, with red and green tones particularly prominent in some shots. Some images of the sky are being overexposed, blown white. In the late evening, I was able to get a good shot of the blue sky, with the foreground and subject evenly exposed. The camera has an 8x digital zoom that does a good job of capturing more detail from distant objects, but the image quality is blurry and fades as you get closer.
Samsung Galaxy M01 Bumped Up To Android 12, Its Last Major Update
Live focus in portrait photos is also very inconsistent. While some photos turned out well, others had the foreground or objects blurred rather than the background, even after I made sure the effect was usable. Samsung says they are looking into this issue and I will update the review when I hear back.
The camera can record 1080p videos. Video quality is clear and sharp enough, but the phone lacks optical image stabilization, so if you’re moving around a lot, the picture won’t be very smooth.

Speaking of photos, you might want to use the Google Photos cloud service to store your photos and videos, or buy a microSD card. The phone has only 16GB of internal storage, of which the operating system and apps take up almost half. My review unit is from Verizon and comes with many preloaded apps. When I first turned it on, without taking pictures or downloading any of my own apps, it only had 4.9GB of memory available. After uninstalling as much bloatware as possible (some apps I couldn’t remove, including some Verizon apps), I got to about 6.8GB. Again, the phone has up to 512GB of expandable memory, so I’d recommend it for onboard storage.

The A01 is equipped with a Snapdragon 439 processor, which is fast enough for most situations. Sometimes I noticed that it was even faster exiting apps and launching the camera than the Galaxy A51, which has a more advanced processor. But every now and then I notice that the A01 also takes a hit or two to do things like open certain apps (Geekbench 4 in particular takes a while to start). It’s not enough to throw your phone out the window, but if you want a lightning-fast user experience, this isn’t the phone for you.
Benchmark results are in line with what I observed in real life, with the Galaxy A01’s Geekbench 4 and 3DMark Slingshot Unlimited scores on par with the G6 from two years ago. Recent budget phones like the Galaxy A51 and Moto G Power hit the A01 with higher features
