The QLED Neo Samsung QN90C TV has almost everything you can expect from an expensive 4K Mini LED TV — excellent HDR brightness, good size options, consistent upscaling, ample support for various formats, and more.
Powered by Samsung’s high-octane Mini-LED panel, the QN90C promises superior performance from the top brands. For the uninitiated, Mini-LED backlights offer high levels of brightness while maintaining true colors and brightness levels. Although the QN90C Neo QLED isn’t the top of all Samsung 2023 4K TVs, it’s the one you’ll want to buy.
It may not be as exciting as the company’s QD-OLED innovation – the Samsung S95C still holds the top spot as the best TV we’ve tested this year – the Samsung QN90C Neo QLED TV review reminds us why Samsung still is the king of Quantum Dot Technology
The QN90C Neo QLED TV is slightly cheaper than Samsung’s 2023 QLED flagship, the Samsung QN95C Neo QLED TV, $500-$1,000 less, depending on size. The 65-inch configuration we tested costs $2,799, though sizes start at 43 inches and go up to 85 inches.

The Samsung QN90C Neo QLED TV is pretty standard – more or less continuing the slim, minimalist design you’ll find on all of Samsung’s best TVs. Setting up a 65-inch TV is a two-person job, but with only a few parts to attach to the stand, this unit is easier to handle than others.
However, the central position does not provide the stability we expected. Samsung has switched to a basic two-sided design that takes up less space, but it seems to have come at a cost. Fortunately, you can mount the TV on the wall with any of the best VESA mounts.
Although it doesn’t have Samsung’s One Connect Box (it’s reserved for the Samsung S95C OLED TV and the Samsung QN900C 8K TV), the QN90C has four HDMI 2.1 ports on the back. This port supports advanced features such as eARC, Automatic Delay Mode and Adjustable Return Rate. Some of these settings are powered by the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, which is a plus if you’re planning to do this on your next gaming TV.
Samsung Qn90c Neo Qled Tv Review
On the TV test bench, the Samsung QN90C Neo QLED TV competes with the X-Rite i1 Pro spectrophotometer, the SpectraCal model generator from VideoForge Pro, and the Calman Image Calibration software. It’s pretty spot on most of the time.
Like the Samsung QN95B Neo QLED TV, brightness is the QN90C’s biggest strength. In Movie Maker mode with HDR content, the QN90C achieved 1987.34 nits at a 10% window. This makes it brighter than the 1905.8 nits achieved by the previous-gen model. In comparison, the LG C3 OLED TV achieved 819.91 nits in the same window. Among the TVs we tested this year, only the Hisense U8K comes close to the QN90C with a maximum of 1788.31 nits.
The QN90C scores as expected in terms of color accuracy and color reproduction. It tested a Delta-E of 2.2 (closer to 0 at best) covering 99.77% of the Rec 709 color space. The LG C3 OLED scored 1.7 and covered 133.59% in the same test, although it’s important to note that OLED is the most good TVs – including S95C OLED TV Samsung (141.46%) – usually give up the basic color standard.
Samsung’s 4K Neural Quantum Processor powers the Samsung QN95C Neo QLED TV’s HD and SD upscaling. Watching “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” the image’s modernization really impressed us. As Miles Morales and Peter Parker swing through the autumn trees to escape Dr. Olivia Octavious, the contrast between orange and red and yellow keeps the reality despite the comic book feel of the movie. The scene looks brand new, capturing the smallest moments of Miles’ progress in learning how to swing.

The only downsides I noticed while testing the QN95B were some visible blooms that struggled with off-angle viewing. The QN90C makes a clear improvement on both fronts, with better brightness control and better wide viewing angles than OLED TVs have to worry about. However, no support for Dolby Vision is a setback for fans of the popular format.
For gamers, it is good to know that the Samsung QN90C measures a very good latency of 9.7 milliseconds. That’s slightly better than the QN95B’s 9.8 milliseconds, although the S95C OLED TV measures 9.2 milliseconds, making it a TV beat for this particular target.
The Samsung QN95B Neo QLED TV is more capable than you’d expect from natural sound. Like other Samsung TVs we’ve tested, this TV can recreate sound based on what’s happening on the screen through a feature called Object Tracking Sound. In the car scene, for example, you can hear the engine racing from one side of the screen to the other.

Interacting with Samsung’s Tizen smart TV interface is essential to the user experience. Having tested a number of Samsung TVs over the past few years, we’ve come to the conclusion that the field remains largely unchanged.
