The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has a lot to talk about. As it is the company’s flagship smartphone, it must be packing the latest and greatest combination of hardware and software available. To begin with, let’s go over the overall aesthetics of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Review: Hit Or Miss?

In retrospect, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra may look exactly like its predecessor. Infinity-O hole-punch screen that’s big even for big hands. The S21 Ultra’s display is now 6.8 inches tall, which is 0.1 inch smaller than its predecessor. Adding to the immersive experience is the edge-to-edge curved screen that’s bright and vibrant. I had a lot of fun using the Galaxy S21 Ultra for streaming and content creation (more on this in the camera section of the review) on my recent trip to Triund, where I used the phone as my daily driver.

The Dynamic AMOLED display has a maximum brightness of 1500 nits, which is bright enough to use even in direct sunlight. The screen supports HDR10+, which means you get excellent colors and contrast when viewing content on the screen. It also has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate display. Two small but big improvements Samsung has made here are the 120Hz WQHD+ resolution and the adaptive refresh rate display.

Unlike the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you can use the S21 Ultra 5G’s display at its highest resolution and highest refresh rate support. I personally used the phone at FHD+ resolution and 120Hz to get the extra battery life, but if you’re someone who likes to use the screen to its full potential, the Galaxy S21 Ultra has you covered. The screen refresh rate is also adaptive, which means it automatically changes the refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on the screen task. I didn’t notice any stuttering and the overall experience was smooth.

When you flip the phone over, you’ll see how refreshing the design is. Samsung has gone back to the drawing board and given the Galaxy S21 Ultra a major, major design update. First of all, that Phantom is black. We are going to reveal that the Galaxy S21 Ultra has the best black color of any smartphone. The back panel has a matte finish that keeps fingerprints at bay while feeling premium to the touch.

The design of the camera module is even better, giving it a premium look from afar. Samsung has integrated the camera bump into the bezel of the phone which is quite unique. At 225 grams, the tall phone looks bulky, but we felt the weight distribution was just right. I used the phone without a case because it would have been a shame as it would have hidden the gorgeous color and design. I also dropped the phone three times but no scratches or cracks. You can tell the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus did the job here.

There is also IP68 certification for water, dust resistance and dual speaker setup. The speakers are loud and clear. As with most flagships, the S21 Ultra lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has the most versatile camera system you’ll find on a smartphone to date. It has an improved 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and two telephoto lenses: 10MP f/2.4 with 3x optical zoom and 10MP f/4.9 with 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.

The versatile camera setup isn’t just on paper, it’s in the real world as well. The improved Samsung 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor clicks great pictures. Photos taken with the main sensor deliver rich, vibrant colors and excellent detail. Dynamic range and contrast are also impressive. I also like the low light performance of the camera. In night mode, the camera manages to retain good detail in shadows without adding highlights. Samsung has also fixed focusing issues with the S20 Ultra’s laser autofocus. The ultra-wide camera is also very good. Yes, there is some distortion around the edges, but that’s the case with most ultra-wide shooters. However, the colors are fairly accurate and the temperature matches the main sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Review: Ultra Performance, Ultimate Experience

The two telephoto lenses are more than gimmicks. Both lenses can shoot up to 100x magnification. I was very impressed with the overall performance of both lenses. If you want the best, usable photos, try zooming up to 30x. Anything more will result in loss of detail and sound. That being said, 100x zoom is no longer a gimmick. Depending on what you are shooting and how far away the subject is, the camera hardware, along with the software, will be able to achieve the best possible results in the right light.

I shot the moon several times during my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra review period and was surprised by the results each time. Samsung uses AI software tricks to complement the hardware and deliver better results. Key features like focus tracking and optical image stabilization in the camera app help focus faster, especially when zooming in on subjects.

For selfies, the Galaxy S21 Ultra has a 40MP camera on the front. As expected, images are generally quite sharp and detailed. Colors are also close to true and there is no skin flattening. After setup, Samsung asks if you want “natural” or “bright” selfies, which I think is a nice touch. Portrait mode offers good border detection and different modes. It emulates the iPhone’s low-key and high-key mono modes. People on Twitter have voted for the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s portrait mode over the iPhone 12’s 12MP selfie. How does this relate to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro? In terms of overall colors and details, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is very close to the iPhone. While colors on the iPhone 12 are closer to the real thing, the Galaxy S21 Ultra captures more vivid images without over-saturated images. Night mode performance is also pretty good, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra takes the crown here for offering Night Mode support for four sensors. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Review: The Best Among The Beasts?

Before the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship in India was often criticized for its overall performance. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and older flagship models came with an Exynos processor in India which not only underperformed its Qualcomm Snapdragon counterpart but also offered poor performance.

Things have changed with the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s Exynos 2100. When Samsung said “Exynos is back,” they meant it this time. The 5nm-based Exynos 2100 is very close to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, according to online benchmark tests. Even if you don’t care about benchmark scores, the Exynos 2100 SoC won’t disappoint you. Samsung surprised us with the overall performance of the S21 Ultra 5G.

During our Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra review, we played Call of Duty, Asphalt 9 and several other games. Even at the highest possible settings, there was no hint of lag. Surprisingly, the device did not overheat during gaming and was only warm to the touch. When we were recording some videos, the top part near the camera module got a little warm.

Battery life is also very impressive. For a phone that runs 120Hz continuously at FHD+ resolution, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G’s 5,000mAh battery gave me more than 6 hours (SoT) on most days. The day I took a lot of photos and videos was when the battery died within 5 hours of SoT. You
