Redmi Note 9 Pro Vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: What’s The Difference
Original Article, March 12, 2020 (3:50 am ET): The Redmi Note series has long been the king of the budget phone segment, striking a good balance between price, performance and features. Now, after weeks of teasing, Redmi has officially launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro (seen above) and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
Starting with the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, it offers a good base specification for a budget phone. You get a Snapdragon 720G processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, 64GB to 128GB of expandable storage (UFS 2.1), and a 5,020mAh battery with a 33W charger in the box. According to Redmi, the battery reaches 50% capacity in 30 minutes.
The Xiaomi sub-brand is also jumping on the punch-hole bandwagon, delivering a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a mid-mounted 32-megapixel shooter. Don’t expect any high refresh rates here.
According to the leak, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will also offer a 64MP quad rear camera setup. That means a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera (119-degree field of view), a 5MP macro shooter (2cm focus) and a 2MP depth sensor. Redmi has confirmed that the phone will support night mode and RAW image for advanced, non-destructive editing.

Compared to the Max model we see some adjustments, such as 4GB of RAM in the base model (with an option for 6GB RAM) and 18W charging instead of 33W.
Moving to the camera experience, the standard model comes with four cameras. But you’re getting a 48MP primary camera (GM2) instead of the Max’s 64MP sensor. Otherwise, you still get an 8MP ultra-wide camera (119-degree field of view), a 5MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. Selfies are powered by a 16-megapixel sensor.

Redmi is taking a page from LG’s playbook by offering a Pro Video mode on the Note 9 Pro with histogram, focus peaking and manual controls. It’s not clear if this feature is available in the Max version, but you’d think more with the higher price.
Both devices come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, IR flasher, 3.5mm port, USB-C, NAVIC support, P2I coating and Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back.
Redmi is focusing on haptic feedback on both the devices by using ‘Z-Axis Motor’ for better touch feedback. In fact, the firm claims it supports more than 150 actions, including scrolling, texting, typing, emailing and more.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is priced at Rs 16,499 (~$218), Rs 17,999 (~$237) for the 6GB/64GB model and Rs 19,999 (~$264) for the 6GB/128GB variant. 8GB/128GB model.
