Redmi Note 9 Pro Vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: What’s The Difference

Original Article, March 12, 2020 (3:50 am ET): The Redmi Note series has long been the king of the budget phone segment, striking a good balance between price, performance and features. Now, after weeks of teasing, Redmi has officially launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro (seen above) and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.

Starting with the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, it offers a good base specification for a budget phone. You get a Snapdragon 720G processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, 64GB to 128GB of expandable storage (UFS 2.1), and a 5,020mAh battery with a 33W charger in the box. According to Redmi, the battery reaches 50% capacity in 30 minutes.

The Xiaomi sub-brand is also jumping on the punch-hole bandwagon, delivering a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a mid-mounted 32-megapixel shooter. Don’t expect any high refresh rates here.

According to the leak, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will also offer a 64MP quad rear camera setup. That means a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera (119-degree field of view), a 5MP macro shooter (2cm focus) and a 2MP depth sensor. Redmi has confirmed that the phone will support night mode and RAW image for advanced, non-destructive editing.

Interestingly, according to the Xiaomi sub-brand, it uses a 64MP camera to reduce multi-frame noise and combines eight 64MP images to capture high-quality full-resolution images. But note that this feature requires 6GB of RAM, so the minimum amount of RAM on the Pro Max is 6GB.

Looking for something cheap? Next comes the standard Redmi Note 9 Pro, which offers a similar experience to the Max model. That means a Snapdragon 720G chipset, expandable storage from 64GB to 128GB, a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD screen with a punch-hole, and a 5,020mAh battery.

Compared to the Max model we see some adjustments, such as 4GB of RAM in the base model (with an option for 6GB RAM) and 18W charging instead of 33W.

Moving to the camera experience, the standard model comes with four cameras. But you’re getting a 48MP primary camera (GM2) instead of the Max’s 64MP sensor. Otherwise, you still get an 8MP ultra-wide camera (119-degree field of view), a 5MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. Selfies are powered by a 16-megapixel sensor.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max Review With Pros And Cons

Redmi is taking a page from LG’s playbook by offering a Pro Video mode on the Note 9 Pro with histogram, focus peaking and manual controls. It’s not clear if this feature is available in the Max version, but you’d think more with the higher price.

Both devices come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, IR flasher, 3.5mm port, USB-C, NAVIC support, P2I coating and Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back.

Redmi is focusing on haptic feedback on both the devices by using ‘Z-Axis Motor’ for better touch feedback. In fact, the firm claims it supports more than 150 actions, including scrolling, texting, typing, emailing and more.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is priced at Rs 16,499 (~$218), Rs 17,999 (~$237) for the 6GB/64GB model and Rs 19,999 (~$264) for the 6GB/128GB variant. 8GB/128GB model.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999 (~$185) for the 4GB/64GB variant and Rs 16,999 (~$224) for the 6GB/128GB variant.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is already on sale via Amazon India and Mi.com. The Note 9 Pro Max will go on sale from March 25. When it comes to Xiaomi phones, especially the Redmi Note series, I can recommend them blindly. I don’t have to think about specs, features and most importantly: value for money. Phones are always good, always will be, but not anymore.

At a glance, these phones are basically identical. They differ only in the camera section and accessories in the set (charger). Side by side, up or down, you can’t tell them apart. But it’s not just looks; In terms of specifications and expansion, the performance remains the same. They are great phones, if I didn’t know better I’d guess they cost around 30k, maybe more.

Both the phones feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ 60Hz LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, 4/6/8GB RAM, 64/128GB storage, 5,020mAh battery and a quad-camera setup at the back – 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. shares.

Now for the differences: the Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a 48MP primary rear camera (up from 12MP) and the Pro Max comes with a 64MP unit (up from 16MP). You get 4/6GB RAM options on the Pro and 6/8GB options on the Pro Max. Finally, the Pro gets a very decent 18W bundled charger, while the Max gets a more powerful 33W charger. Pricing starts at Rs 13,999 (4/64) for the Pro and Rs 16,499 (6/64) for the Max.

What about a few megapixels here or there? And you don’t really need a long-lasting 33W charger, do you?

Both the phones have poor performance. Now, Xiaomi told me that it opted for a 60Hz display and a more efficient SD720G chipset (the 90Hz display and MediaTek G90T SoC rival in the Realme 6):
