From the beginning, Samsung’s ultra-smartphones were characterized by their large size and were very difficult to use with one hand. Same with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The smartphone measures 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9 mm and weighs 227 grams, making it 5 grams heavier than its predecessor. Despite the small difference in weight, the S21 Ultra feels slightly lighter and more balanced. With the S20 Ultra, I constantly feel like the device is going to fall out of my hands due to the greater weight distribution. Samsung has finally addressed this criticism of its predecessor, which of course does not mean that the S21 Ultra is a lightweight smartphone. I would advise everyone to hold the device before buying it. If you like big, heavy and thick smartphones, then you’ll get your money’s worth here. For me personally, this would be a bit much, and the device was often difficult to use with one hand.

The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, the strongest glass currently used in a smartphone. Unfortunately, since I’m using the device with a pre-installed screensaver, I can’t yet confirm if this is actually the case. Unlocking the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, you’re greeted by a huge screen, interrupted only by a small hole in the middle where Samsung houses the front-facing camera. The edges around the panel are slightly smaller than the predecessor. Currently, only Galaxy note 20 ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+ are available here. It should please many that the manufacturer has reduced the roundness of both sides of the board tremendously with this year’s Ultra, which means that there were no false entries in my daily use.
Next, let’s take a closer look at the framework. It is made of high-gloss metal and is therefore extremely sensitive to fingerprints and scratches. While the left side of the frame remained completely empty, the South Korean manufacturer installed volume and mute buttons on the right side. The power button is located directly below it. Despite the large shape, all buttons are still easy to reach. The USB-C port, microphone and one of the two speakers are located below. The second is built into the headphones. We will of course take a closer look at the quality of the speakers later. Samsung then places two more microphones on top.
If we turn the smartphone over, the silver color that we tested immediately catches our eyes. It’s matte, which means it’s not susceptible to fingerprints and always looks a little different depending on how the light hits it. If this color is too colorful for you, there are four more subtle colors offered by Samsung: black, gray, blue and brown.

In addition to the color, you should immediately notice the new design of the camera in the upper left corner. Samsung has offered something new here that I haven’t seen in any smartphone in this form. The camera dome extends from the frame of the device to the back. I’m a big fan of this and I always say it when I compare the design of the S20 Ultra to the design of the S21 Ultra. Samsung has taken a big step here. Unfortunately, the camera bump protrudes slightly from the case, meaning the S21 Ultra wobbles a bit when you’re using it on a table.

There is absolutely no reason to criticize the staff. Nothing rips here, nothing wobbles, and overall it feels extremely stable. The buttons sit firmly in the case and have a good pressure point.

One of the highlights is the front-mounted OLED screen. It measures an impressive 6.8 inches and has a high resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels. I can only say positive things about the quality. From excellent and realistic color reproduction to OLED typical really good black value, white value, fantastic brightness. No other screen is as bright in auto mode. As a result, there are no problems with readability even on sunny days. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the stability of the viewing angle, which is not bad at all, but compared to the competition and for the high price, I would have expected a little more. Samsung might improve this a bit with future smartphones.
Based on Android 11, One UI version 3.1 is used as the built-in user interface software. One UI is a highly customized interface that has little in common with stock Android. Nevertheless, I like it relatively, because the idea of One UI is to manage smartphones with one hand quite well, despite the huge screens. There are also some extra features like eye protection mode, fancy gesture controls, a very good always-on display and double-tap on/off. In addition, Samsung promises to keep the device updated for four years.

On paper, they were slightly inferior to Qualcomm’s processors in terms of performance, but that’s pretty unimportant, as day-to-day performance is excellent. I haven’t seen anything negative here, but the waves do change when playing games, taking pictures, or benchmarking. Only then does the smartphone become noticeably, but not uncomfortably, warm. This can only happen in summer when the temperatures are higher. A problem occurs.
Samsung equipped the S21 Ultra with a 5000 mAh battery that can be charged up to 25 watts. However, if necessary, you must purchase the necessary power supply separately. For such a high price I think it’s ridiculous, especially since they openly mocked Apple before.

I always had a good day and most of the time 1.5 days never happened. Problem With 120Hz enabled, screen time for me was mostly between 8 and 9 hours. Almost 10 hours were also possible with basic use on WLAN. If you turn off smooth 120Hz refresh and use the device at 60Hz, the battery lasts a good hour longer. In themselves, these are really great values, but for 5,000 mAh you can expect a little more, especially from other smartphones
