This has changed a lot in recent years as companies like Samsung, OnePlus, and Google have committed to multi-year update programs that keep up with the hardware era. Now Oppo has become the latest manufacturer to commit to four years of major Android updates and additional security patches.

Oppo wrote in a blog post today: “Opo has also announced a new ColorOS update policy. This includes a commitment to guarantee the four major ColorOS updates with 5 years of security patches for international users on selected flagship models from 2023.
In this way, Oppo aims to continue to develop ColorOS to provide long-lasting and more stable smart experiences to global users.”

Oppo also celebrates the fastest rollout of Android 13 through the ColorOS 13 UI based on the new version of the operating system. Android 13, which is 50% more than the same period last year, currently has 33 Oppo devices.
“ColorOS 13 was released to 33 smartphones worldwide on August 18, 2022, making it the fastest and largest update in ColorOS history,” the company wrote. “In the same four-month period after their official release, 50% more handset models are compatible with ColorOS 13 (data from 18 August to 18 December 2022) than ColorOS 12 (data from October 11, 2021 to February 11, 2022).”

OnePlus’ latest high-end smartphone is a high-spec device with a good combination of beauty and performance, and a price that undercuts the competition. Don’t just sit on it.
The 10 Pro is priced at £799 ($899), which is still a premium price, but £30 cheaper than last year’s model and £250 cheaper than the flagship Oppo Find X5 Pro.
The phone has one of the best 6.7-inch OLED displays: bright, vibrant and colorful with a 120Hz refresh rate to keep it sharp. The edges of the glass are joined by a shiny metal strip and frosted glass, which feels particularly good and prevents fingerprints from causing a mess.

The camera lens in the upper right corner combines with the metal edges to create an interesting design element. Despite being large, its curved edges, relatively narrow width, and weight of around 200 grams make the 10 Pro relatively easy to hold compared to similar competitors.
While it appears to have a solid build, durability tests have shown that the phone can split in two if enough pressure is applied. Don’t fall in and you should be fine. It also doesn’t have an official waterproof rating, but is resistant to rain, splashes or similar events.

The 10 Pro features the same premium Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip as 2022’s top Android phones, with a fast interface and smooth gaming performance.
Xiaomi 13 Pro Review: Great Hardware, Okay Software
Battery life is excellent, lasting about 43 hours on average between charges, including three hours spent on 5G. The screen was set to the default resolution and was actively used for more than six hours. That’s seven hours longer than Samsung’s closest competitor, meaning the phone will need to be charged every two nights using the light. If the screen is upscaled to the maximum QHD+ resolution, it will take approximately five hours of screen-on time.

OnePlus rates the battery for at least 1,000 full charge cycles while retaining at least 80% of its original capacity.
The phone is not a recycled material, but it is usually repairable and a replacement battery costs around £20 plus labor. OnePlus runs a business plan and is included in parent company Oppo’s annual sustainability reports.

OnePlus traditionally has OxygenOS, the best version of Android, on its phones. While that’s still largely true on this phone, it’s a tweaked version of ColorOS developed by parent company Oppo, as seen on the Find X5 Pro, with a slightly different look and feel.
It is based on the latest Android 12 and is updated with security patches bimonthly for four years from its release and is supported by three major Android upgrades. That’s reasonable, but less than a year of support from Samsung or Google, which also provides faster monthly security updates.
OxygenOS 12.1 doesn’t look the same as last year’s version 11, but it’s still plain and a smart enough deal for western audiences. It’s got a few niggles, including more aggressive blocking of apps running in the background, which is designed to save battery but can delay message notifications or occasionally stop playing music. “Pinning” apps in the multitasking menu prevents them from closing.

The main camera usually takes very good well-exposed photos with good color balance. It can struggle in very high-contrast scenes, but does well in low-light scenarios. The ultra-wide camera is equally good, albeit a bit bland in details and less sensitive in low light. It can also take super-wide or suspenseful photos with fun special modes.

The 3.3x telephoto camera has higher magnification than some of its competitors and can take pretty sharp shots in good lighting. But it struggles in low light levels and quickly becomes grainy.
The cameras aren’t consistent in terms of color and exposure levels, which means switching between them produces very different images in the same scenario, but overall the three cameras are strong even if they can’t beat the best from Samsung, Google or Apple.
