Update Page A Day A5 Diary 2021 Review – A few years ago, I posted a Mi Goals Planner Haul. I’ve posted a review for the weekly planner but I’ve never posted a review of the Progress Planner. Good thing it’s an undated plan!

Update: Looks like they no longer sell the A6 version of the plan but the A5 version is still available. When I bought the planner a year or two ago, it was called the Schedule Planner. Looking at the Mi Goals website now, it looks like they’ve renamed it Goals Journal. Since the A6 is no longer available, I’m focusing on the A5 version in this post.

The Best Paper Diaries For 2021

This planner can be used for up to 3 purposes. Each goal has its own page for more planning details. I think 2 pages per goal would be best. There is no room for mind maps or notes, breaking tasks into sub-tasks, and so on.

Daily planner page. I really like this layout with no pre-printed time schedule. Instead, they leave space for you to add if needed, or just use that space for other lists, note reminders, health, and more.

The A6 format has a condensed daily planning page with a to-do list, a ‘today me’ journal section, 3 things you’ve done to get you closer to your goals I struggled with today and I hope for tomorrow. The A5 format version is more functional.

On the back is a space to write the goal you have achieved (or part of the goal you have achieved).

Since the paper quality is like the weekly planners, I didn’t bother to do another pen test. Here are the weekly planner pen test results:

There are some phantoms for Frixion pens, highlighters and erasable pens, but they would not change color except for MAMBI stamps:

Maybe. I use weekly planner, not daily planner.. but this planner could work for me if I convert it to weekly spread similar to what I did with the daily designer.

I’ve been using Hobonichi Weeks happily for the past three years, but last fall, when I started graduate school, it didn’t have enough room. I work full-time as a writer, part-time as a librarian, have two kids with their own schedules, and when I add schoolwork to the mix, I feel like there aren’t enough pages in the world to contain you. – back list. It still feels the same. Last January, when I knew I had too much to fit into my plan, I decided not to improve my plan but to simplify my life instead. I don’t want to have to do more than a normal plan would fit! That is a good plan. But it doesn’t work. I finished Giving My Week a few months ago and BuJoing my way to the end of the year. So what’s in store for 2022?

This year, I tried to achieve the same goal, and Week, my favorite layout, also tempted me. Tempting planning season. However, reason prevailed and I stuck to my plan to get an A5 plan sheet – but not a Hobonichi this year. I’ve tried Cousin before and I like it, but Midori MD paper suits me and Tomoe is my favorite paper level and I think this Midori MD Diary 2022 A5, 1 Day 1 Page book layout may be perfect for me.

In advance, there are monthly spreads from December 2021 to January 2023, so I can start early and plan ahead. Weeks start on Monday, that’s the only reasonable way to do it and I won’t hear arguments to the contrary. Do not do. After that, there are 385 undated daily pages for a total of 416 pages. You know how I like pages.

What keeps my eyes on the layout of these pages every day is that they look like what I have designed for myself in my BuJo in the past months. I had to go to the plan to schedule the hours to remain active, and this layout includes a list of hours on the left. It runs from 8am to midnight, but has a slot on top if your day starts as ridiculously early as mine. Technically, there is enough room to list all the way back to 1 a.m., effectively making it a 24-hour calendar. Good if you work overnight! Or stay up all night to study. There are also 7 lines under the hour section to take notes or if you happen to have a time machine and can add more hours to your day.

What is particularly unique in these pages is the margin, which is the real star of the show. Around the monthly calendar are blank spaces for lists, notes, and planning. And the right half of each daily page is blank for sketches, notes, lists, tracking habits, stickers, tea stains, poetry, ideas, reminders or plain feet. It can be anything you need it to be.

This is the perfect mix of structure and chaos. My life is a pre-programmed mess, and this planner gives me space for everything. It also has two ribbon bookmarks, so you can keep one in your monthly section and one in your daily section. It also comes with sticky tabs that you can use to mark your months on the daily planner pages.

I’ve praised the Midori MD article many times in the past, but I’ll repeat my admiration here – it’s brilliant. It is light and sharp, and handles pen and ink with ease. There is transparent projection, but less than Tomoe River paper. It provides high gloss and has a slightly faster drying time than many coated papers. I always recommend using some blotting paper as a marker if you are doing quick planning items on the go.

There are really only two attacks against this planner that I can think of. One, there is no weekly overview. Only monthly and daily. I want to take a quick look in a week, so this will need some tweaking. And two, all these pages mean this plan is thicc. It is an inch thick. It doesn’t fit most of my A5 laptop covers. Midori predicted this, and it has a good shell of its own: a soft, light PVC with a faux-leather pebble effect. It is creamy and minimalistic with the MD logo embossed on the cover and 2022 on the spine. It’s completely fine. More elegant than boring. But normally I would stuff this in a Nock Seed box or a Galen Leather Folio – Alas, neither would fit. I can just cover it with stickers.

I don’t expect any book to rule my tumultuous life, but I think this book will be a big help for 2022. I’m glad I finally admitted to it that I need big space to do big things, and I hope this helps I prevent small things from slipping through the cracks. 2020 and 2021 are not good. Very no. “The story of 2022,” the book says inside the cover. I can’t help but look at him sternly and hope that he behaves for the better.
