I’ve tested hundreds of gaming PCs in my two decades as a tech journalist, and I know what’s worth the money and where you can compromise. This is especially important at the budget end of the market, but also at the upper end. Even with a $3,000 PC you want to know your money is being spent wisely.

The Best Gaming Pcs Of 2023: Top Desktop Rigs Compared

In this article, I cover the specs you should expect at a given price and which gaming PCs are best for your budget, based on my experience testing PCs made by several different companies. It’s impossible to test every single configuration in the rich tapestry of gaming PCs, but we’ve experienced the work of all the major system builders and extensively tested the key components of each. We know which graphics card performs best at each price point and which processor you should get the most out of.

So whether you have a budget of $1,000 or are willing to spend up to $5,000 on your dream machine, we’ve got the best gaming PC for you.

That’s a good deal for a mid-tier gaming PC, especially when many rigs around this price point only deliver you an RTX 3060. The Core i5 is still a really solid CPU, and the RTX 3060 Ti is probably the best mainstream GPU. Last generation cards from Nvidia.

We’re impressed with ABS Gaming Rigs’ combination of solid components and great value. This Stratos Ruby comes with either an RTX 4070 or RTX 4070 Ti, depending on how flush you’re feeling, but both come in under $2,000. There’s also a faster AMD CPU, 16GB of RAM and a full 1TB NMVe SSD.

Best Gaming Pc 2021: Desktop Pc Reviews & Buying Advice

IBuyPower is one of the biggest names in PC building and one of the top tier. The 2-day shipping on its RDY gaming PCs is excellent and the company is smart about packaging its machines so they reach you safely. At this price its RTX 4080-based systems are great value and look good.

Corsair makes almost every part of a modern gaming PC and knows how to put it together. With the best graphics cards and the best CPUs, Vengeance machines pull it all together with Corsair RAM and storage and the best chip coolers on the market.

Alienware is one of the most popular gaming PC manufacturers around, but that luster has slowly faded for us as Dell’s corporate grip tightens. Aurora machines still look great, but the build quality has been lacking in recent years and the value proposition is non-existent. Bespoke components are not premium, yet carry a premium price.

Are Gaming Pcs Worth Buying In Best Buy Or Where Should I Buy Gaming Rigs Here In Ontario?

Yeian Katana X10 | Core i5 11400F | RTX 3060 Ti | 16GB RAM | 500GB SSD | $949 at Newegg

At first glance Yeyian looks like a brand from Asia entering the US market with affordable gaming PCs, but it’s been quietly selling the fact that it’s a San Diego builder for the past six years. With systems on sale at Amazon and Newegg, this Katana X10 is the best value we’ve seen this year. Usually the RTX 3060 Ti ships in $1,500 machines, so it’s great to finally see it in grand style. The Core i5 11400F is also a good budget CPU, and at this price and with this GPU, it’s a good pair. The only real issue we have with this build is the 500GB SSD, but the cost of storage is currently so low that it should be an easy after market upgrade.

✅ You’re using a pure gaming PC: The RTX 3060 Ti offers excellent 1080p frame rates and decent 1440p numbers too.

✅ $1,000 is your limit: At just under $1,000 it will stretch your budget to the max, but the components on offer justify the cost.

✅ You’re happy to upgrade: The SSD needs an upgrade sooner than anything else on this machine, but its B560 motherboard has a spare M.2 socket and storage has never been more affordable.

❌ You need raw CPU power: The Core i5 11400F is a decent gaming CPU, but its six cores don’t offer much in the way of processing power for streaming or content creation.

❌ You’ll never want to pick up a screwdriver again: you’ll need a new SSD after the 500GB runs out, and that means removing the side, I’m afraid.

When you’re looking for a gaming PC under $1,000, it’s all about specs and price, regardless of who or where it’s from. Well, within reason. As long as the company you’re buying from has successfully sold gaming PCs before and doesn’t have too many bad reviews, you should be sure you’re getting the parts you expect at this price point.

Gaming Laptop Vs. Gaming Desktop: The Classic Dilemma

For now it would ideally be the RTX 3060 Ti, one of the best graphics cards of the last generation. It’s a powerful GPU, not far behind the RTX 3070 and still not on par with the new generation AMD and Nvidia cards. But with the RTX 4070 now available, we expect the RTX 4060 Ti soon. But prices on the RTX 30-series should continue to drop with abundant stock. There are still plenty of RTX 3060 GPUs out there, though, so if you can pick up a PC with one of them for $700 or less, you’re doing pretty well.

You’ll want a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 processor with it, but anything from Intel 11th Gen or AMD 5000-series and 16GB of RAM will do. You’ll probably only get a ~500GB SSD in these builds, but it’s a very affordable upgrade.

Ipason Gaming Desktop | AMD Ryzen 5 5600G | 16GB DDR4-3200 | 500GB NVMe SSD | $849.99 at Newegg $499 (save $350.99) You can game this machine to some extent—the integrated Vega GPU on the Ryzen chip certainly supports 720p gaming at low settings. But we’re listing it here as a good base for adding your own graphics card for a fast, powerful new gaming PC. An AMD CPU with a decent six-core, 12-thread job and 16GB of RAM will run everything you need. A 500GB SSD might be big, but it’s an easy, inexpensive upgrade.

Forge Gladiator | Core i3 10105F | AMD RX 6600 | 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD | The $799 CPU at Amazon is definitely the biggest money saver here, but pair the Core i3 10105F with the RX 6600 and you still have a decent gaming PC. With a terabyte of storage, you can fit thousands of small/large games here and it’s a good punt on modern games even at mid-low graphics settings.

ABS Stratos Ruby | Ryzen 7 7700X | RTX 4070 Ti | 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD | $1,899.99 at Newegg

The Stratos Ruby from Advanced Battlestations is the best value RTX 4070 Ti gaming PC you’ll find right now. Pairing a powerful RTX 40-series graphics card with one of the best AMD Gen 4 processors from the first batch of Ryzen 7000-series chips makes this a gaming PC that can take on everything you throw at it. For under $2,000 you’re getting a system that smashes 1440p and also delivers beautiful 4K gaming performance. It’s worth noting that once you top $2,000 you can expect to get 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. ABS is Newegg’s gaming PC brand, and we’re impressed with its balance of build quality, performance, and specs. ABS systems we tested. We note that the packaging is almost overkill, but I totally take it in the rig where the GPU came loose and trashed the insides of my rig.

✅ You want serious 1440p frame rates: The RTX 4070 Ti can nail great 1440p numbers, but you can power a 4K gaming monitor at impressive levels, especially with DLSS 3.0 and frame generation.
