A recent report revealed that the Redmi Note 7 Pro was the second most popular smartphone in India, and for good reason. Xiaomi has set itself the goal of offering absolute value in every phone it sells, and the Note Pro line consistently hits the perfect spot between value for money and performance. The non-professional version of the line is just as good and offers even better value if you’re willing to forego features like a slightly more powerful SoC or camera.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro we reviewed earlier packs in a 64MP rear camera while the Note 8 packs in a 48MP. Note that last year’s Note 7 Pro offered a 48MP camera while the Note 7 came with a 12MP camera. The Note 8 is already a major upgrade.
The Snapdragon 665 chipset, 6GB RAM and the 128GB version I tested for over a week showed no signs of lag or lag in any of the apps. Unless you’re spoiled for choice with the super-friendly OxygenOS UI, you’ll enjoy the smoothness of MIUI 10, with the next release expected soon.

Redmi Note 8 offers a good enough multimedia experience for watching videos. You don’t have stereo speakers, but what you do have is loud enough to comfortably watch movies and TV shows. It will bother you, but you’ll get used to it eventually. If that still bothers you, MIUI allows you to hide the bar, essentially cutting off the dotted area.

Like the Note 8 Pro, this device has a cooler color temperature on the display. Switching to the “warm” color mode does not help. However, MIUI allows you to play with temperature and colors to customize the display to your liking. The contrast is average and the color balance is neutral enough.
The phone supports 18W fast charging, and thanks to the battery capacity of 4000 mAh, the phone lasted more than a day with regular use. When I pulled my phone out to click photos while using social media and answering emails extensively, the device still had around 20 percent charge at the end of the day.
Thanks to the quad rear camera system, you can take beautiful photos in daylight. The main 48MP camera can take detailed photos in natural light. When it comes to skin tone, colors are highly dependent on light intensity. In direct sunlight, skin tones look lighter and a bit unnatural. When there is soft light, say in the evening, the skin tone is close to natural, albeit slightly saturated.
While ordinary photos have good contrast, HDR mode will allow you to capture great shots. Shadows and lights are well balanced. In this mode you will be able to take beautiful photos of clouds and buildings.

The transparency of the four different lenses also works well, and the UI allows you to seamlessly switch between them. The white balance in different cameras is maintained and does not change drastically under the same lighting conditions. I also tried some macro shots and managed to capture detailed images, although the images were not very sharp. Remember that for such photos you will need good lighting.
In low light conditions, the camera has a hard time capturing details. While the photos aren’t terrible, you need decent lighting for good photos. The camera has a night mode, but I would avoid it because it adds too much noise when trying to increase the brightness of the image.
The biggest difference between the Note 8 and Note 8 Pro is the chipset and camera. While the Note 8 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, the Note 8 Pro is powered by the Mediatek Helio G90T. There is no noticeable difference in performance and it is only noticeable when switching apps or opening them. However, due to the enhanced performance, the Note 8 Pro should run smoothly on multiple Android version updates until the hardware becomes a bottleneck.
When it comes to the camera, there is of course a big difference in image quality. The Note 8 Pro performs better in low light and has a natural skin tone. The images are sometimes too saturated as the colors are compared to those of the Note 8.

In terms of price, the Note 8 is much cheaper than the Pro. The entry-level Note 8 model (4/64GB) is priced at Rs 9,999, while the entry-level Pro model (6/64GB) is available at Rs 14,999. The top-of-the-line Note 8 (6GB + 128GB), however, is available for Rs 12,999. The final price may cause trouble for some users. If you’re in that situation, I think it’s worth spending a little more on the Pro. It is more powerful and has a better camera. However, for Rs 9,999, the Note 8 is a fantastic deal.
If you are looking for a phone under 10,000, the Redmi Note 8 offers outstanding and outstanding value for money. It competes heavily with the Realme 5, but the 12MP rear camera is easily overshadowed by the Note 8’s 48MP rear camera. Update on October 16, 2019 (5:30am ET): First announced in China, Xiaomi has now launched the Redmi Note 8 series in India. Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 come with quad camera setups. We previously reviewed the Redmi Note 8 Pro with a 64MP quad camera setup and you can check it out here.
