It’s important to note, though, that you won’t be able to enable the 120Hz setting while the phone’s native screen resolution is 3,088 x 1,440. Instead, like the Galaxy S20, you’ll have to drop the resolution of the phone’s screen to FHD+. parameter. Despite its size, the Note 20 Ultra never felt particularly awkward during my socially distanced hands-on experience at the Samsung KX store in London. It’s a huge phone, no doubt about it, but I never thought I’d drop it. Of course, the S Pen is back, although its built-in slot has switched sides and is now located in the bottom left corner of the phone. The differences between the two Note 20 models don’t stop there. The Ultra’s camera functions a little differently, especially when it comes to “Space Zoom.” Both phones have triple-camera arrays on the back, but the regular Note 20’s telephoto unit can only zoom up to 30x, while the more expensive Note 20 Ultra can zoom up to 50x.
In a practical sense, the difference is hardly worth buying a more expensive phone in my opinion, but where the Note 20 Ultra should beat its sibling, the Note 20, is its massive 108-megapixel main camera — which works in tandem with the aforementioned 12. – Megapixel zoom sensor and 12MP ultra-wide snapper.
Like the Galaxy S20, the Note 20 Ultra can shoot video at up to 8K resolution, but if you want to record at 60fps, you’ll need to drop the resolution down to 4K. I asked Samsung product spokespeople at the event if Bixby would be there, and they didn’t say if it would. Whatever you think, it seems to me that Bixby has inadvertently restarted all of Samsung’s services, and those Google Assistant integration rumors may actually be true.
More generally, however, the Note 20 Ultra is the culmination of Samsung’s two years of flagship launches, and it has pretty much everything a modern flagship could ask for. It’s going to be fast, no doubt, but it’s also likely to take great photos, and its software experience will be as flawless as the Galaxy S20’s.
But there is one major controversy, and that is the high issue price. The Note 20 Ultra starts at £1,179, which is pretty expensive, and I can’t imagine many of these will be snapped off (virtual) store shelves when it launches on 11 August.
