Update Note 20 Price Review – The Samsung Note 20 Ultra proves once again that the company can pack powerful specs into a stunning device, but you’re not getting your money’s worth if you’re not connected to the Note family.

When Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S20 lineup in February, it was clear that the company was reinvigorating the family of devices with improved cameras, larger batteries, and an overall sleeker aesthetic.

So when it came time to announce its Note 20 lineup, I was excited to see what Samsung would innovate next. Instead, the company seems to have assigned an intern to lazily copy and paste the same features from its S20 Ultra to the latest Note 20 Ultra.

First Galaxy Note 20 Leak Reveals Major Hint About Its Design

When I finally got my hands on this new flagship, I found it to be almost identical to my experience with the S20 Ultra. Both phones have a 6.9-inch display, 108-megapixel camera sensors, Space Zoom, 120Hz refresh rate, large batteries (4,500mAh on the Note 20 Ultra and 5,000mAh on the S20 Ultra), and a hefty price tag. meet this list of specifications.

Of course, the Note 20 comes with its signature S-Pen stylus, which I hoped would make up for the lack of originality between the two “Ultra” devices.

. Of course, there were plenty of phablets to choose from back then, but Samsung included a dedicated S-Pen tool.

Older. The ability to switch between smartphone and tablet with a simple click of the S-Pen finally pushed the boundaries of handheld devices.

Samsung’s Updated Galaxy Note20 Is A Monster, With A Steep Price

In the years since the original Note was introduced, Samsung has continued to innovate what the stylus can do, whether it’s increasing pressure sensitivity for a more natural pen-to-paper feel, redesigning the grip, or adding new commands for faster access to productivity tools. (eg texting or calling).

Stylus. With the Apple iPhone 6 Plus or the Google Pixel XL – both of which had a 5.5-inch display – larger displays have become the norm. These large screens make it easy to stream content, take photos, and stay in touch with loved ones through social media. And all of these tasks are simple to perform by tapping your fingers on the screen instead of relying on a stylus.

The stylus has always been a special accessory and you don’t see it very often. As someone who’s always ready to jot down notes in the Notes app whenever I have an idea or create a to-do list, I often forget I have the S-Pen handy.

Switch to Note 20 Ultra. Instead of slapping on a few new gestures, I expected Samsung to use more features to make everyday tasks easier. Instead, it feels like a forced update powered by recycled ideas from the S20 family.

The Note 20 Ultra is an amazing device, there’s no denying that it’s super premium, with a soft back and glossy edges. So the Note 10 looks very dated in comparison. It’s also much more attractive than the S20 Ultra, which looks really dull and boring compared to its gray glass back.

Unlike the “regular” Note 20, which is made of reinforced polycarbonate (read: plastic) and metal, the Ultra is made of metal and has a matte glass back. My review unit was the color Mystic Bronze, which looks rose gold depending on how the light hits it.

The combination of materials certainly gives the device a luxurious touch, but also adds weight. Like the S20 Ultra, I usually have to hold the phone with both hands to avoid dropping it.

A large, heavy and glass phone makes for a very delicate combination. As powerful as it is, there were times when I wanted to put it behind a display case and stare at it – just to assuage my fear of accidentally falling and breaking it.

I’m also not the biggest fan of rose gold because I’m sick of seeing it on every women’s smartwatch these days. But this is definitely the funniest color on the list. If you’re not a bronze fan, other options are Mystic Black and Mystic White.

In terms of buttons and ports, the power button and volume rocker are located on the right side of the device, while the left side has no buttons, making it easy to hold with one hand without accidentally moving it. The phone has a SIM card slot on the top, a USB Type-C charging port on the bottom, and a Dolby stereo speaker. Those coming from one of the Note’s predecessors will notice that the S-Pen has moved from the lower-left storage area to the lower-right corner. While I don’t mind this switch, it might take some getting used to if you’re coming from a previous Note device.

Flip the Note 20 Ultra around and you’ll find a rectangular triple-camera module that looks a lot better than the Note 10’s pill-shaped camera array. As with the S20 series, it looks more modern and aesthetically pleasing.

Rough camera shot behind. Normally, I wouldn’t mind such a specific wheel, but for a phone designed specifically for taking notes with a stylus, it gets annoying after a while.

When I put the phone on a flat surface, it often wobbled back and forth as I typed on it, making me paranoid that I might break the glass module. So you’ll definitely want to make a case for it to resolve something.

On the front is a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display (496 ppi). I’m not the biggest fan of edge-to-edge displays, which I realized after reviewing the OnePlus 8 Pro and Moto Edge+, as their extended widths cause me to accidentally launch certain apps or actions with my palm.

I didn’t have this problem with the Note 20 Ultra, but it helped that I turned off the Edge panels feature that pulls up the app drawer using a dedicated button on the side of the display.

Holding the phone with both hands also gave me a bit more control. I had to do this not only because of the large build of the Note 20 Ultra, but also because my fingers can’t stretch over such a large screen. I had to rely on two fingers to access certain apps or buttons.

Regardless, the display itself is really good. It’s super bright even on the lowest brightness setting and colors look sharp and vibrant. The 120Hz refresh rate (which you can lower to 60Hz via the settings) is another plus – scrolling through social media, email threads and articles was really smooth.

The in-display fingerprint sensor was also a surprisingly good experience considering my issues with the S20 Ultra, which failed to recognize my in-display print and forced me to rely on face unlock. The Note 20 Ultra, on the other hand, always read my prints on the first try and unlocked the phone in milliseconds.

I find the S-Pen useless. That’s not to say that those coming from the previous Note device will be disappointed. Compared to the Note 10, Samsung claims an 80 percent delay on the Note 20 Ultra. And very responsive when writing notes.

The S-Pen also packs a few new features that will appeal to those looking for an upgrade. For starters, Samsung has introduced a new feature called Anywhere Actions that gives the S-Pen more capabilities. Basically, depending on which way you wave the stylus in front of the display while holding down the button, you can initiate different actions.

By default, Air Actions are used to return to the home screen, open the app switcher, capture a specific part of the screen, or take a full screenshot of everything on the display. Magic stick. However, you can instead customize Air Actions to launch different apps that you use every day.

You can also customize what each gesture triggers based on your favorite or most used apps. Credit: screenshot / samsung

As shown in the screenshots above, you basically wave the S-Pen in these weird directions as instructed. This feature was fun at first, but the novelty quickly wore off. Not only did it forget what certain gestures were, but if my “air action” wasn’t precise enough, there were times when the phone wouldn’t recognize what I was trying to do.
