Now, as not indicated in the press release, we have been working to confirm with the studio whether 1) Superman: The Movie will be a new 4K remaster or the same disc released in 2018, 2) or all discs contain. Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio (after the package says that they should all have Atmos but only Superman: the film has Dolby Vision – we check this), and 3) whether there will be one 4K of the films here. States (there’s probably one in the UK for all but Superman: The Movie, but no sign of SCU for a single US 4K movie yet). When we hear from WBHE, we’ll post the details here.

[Editor’s Note – 4 PM Update: WBHE responded with the following answers to our questions for more information: 1) Superman: The 4K Movie uses the same high-definition video as the 2018 UHD version, but now includes the original soundtrack mix (Note: We believe this is now in the DTS-HD MA format, as 2018 4K offers it in lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital. -BH). 2) Superman: The movie includes Dolby Vision HDR while the series only HDR10. All have Dolby Atmos. 3) There are currently no single movie 4K SKUs available in the US.

We wrap up the week here at the Beats with some more new disc reviews, as well as some release news, including new 4K catalog titles, and an update on a title or two we’ve talked about in the past. Inside. Last week. But first the reviews…

I posted my thoughts on Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire (1987) thriller which is now available in 4K Ultra HD from Curzon Film in the UK. The 4K remaster, made by the Wim Wenders Foundation, is absolutely stunning. Movie fans may not realize this, but when the film was completed and shown in theaters back in 87, the version we all had then was six generations away from the original camcorder. . But now, every inch of the film – except for the small amount of historical and news footage that appears in it – is wrong in the first century. And it does

Difference, even on the previous criterion Blu-ray. So if you’re a fan, this 4K release is definitely worth a look.

I also reviewed Jack Ryan: Season Two on 4K Ultra HD, which was released last month on the Paramount platform (along with Season One that we reviewed here). The series’ third season recently dropped on Amazon Prime and we’re told it’s coming to Blu-ray and 4K later this year.

Also today, Stephen turns in his thoughts on Adam Rifkin’s The Invisible Maniac on 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome.

And we have more commentary on the way too. I personally work on Shout! The Last Factory Wargames and HBO’s House of Dragons: Season One, both in 4K Ultra HD. I hope to post the reviews by the end of this week or early next week. And the rest of the review team is working on new titles as well, so be sure to check them out. [Read here…]
