Not long ago, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 11 – an affordable smartphone in early 2022. Just a month later, Xiaomi also introduced its tongue-in-cheekly named “Pro” sibling, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

But I believe the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G shares more similarities with the Xiaomi 11T. It’s actually a more expensive phone with a higher average price tag announced in September 2021.
As smartphone makers slowly move away from curved displays and bodies, so is Xiaomi. The company followed the latest design trends. They’ve made the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G a smartphone that looks and feels like part of their premium range of smart tiles.

Apart from the normal Redmi logo, there is also a 5G logo on the side. This is probably the shortest way to distinguish it from the regular Redmi Note 11.
A new straight edge frame is preferred. Some may find the curved phone safer to hold, but for me, its solid weight is enough to hold it properly in my hand. This is despite the fact that the frame is not aluminum, but plastic. Just be careful, because when we look closely, there are drops like this 👀.
As expected, the camera array is similar to previous Xiaomi and Redmi devices to protect the brand. This arrangement is also what separates the two brands from their former sub-brand POCO, which still runs MIUI.
To create some separation, the 108MP camera stands out more, while the smaller ultra-wide and macro sensors (plus an LED flash) are all tucked into smaller circles. The other one has only the “AI” brand, and the number is left at the bottom.

If I remember correctly, Xiaomi started doing this first on the Mi 10T Pro. The difference in design is incredible.
If you flip the phone over, you’ll still be greeted by a screen with a centered notch, just like the Redmi Note 10 and 10S.
And thankfully, they chose to use a fingerprint scanner very similar to the one they used on the Xiaomi 11T – a good tactic with a quick response.
The similarities between Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G and Xiaomi 11T don’t end there. Although I’m using its Pro counterpart, it’s still safe to say they’re identical in terms of hardware. Both the 11T and 11 Pro 5G have a 6.67-inch 120Hz display with a center notch.
Redmi Note 11 Pro 5g Review: A Solid Mid Ranger But A Minor Upgrade
As far as specs go, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has a brighter Super AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1200 nits, which is just 200 nits shorter than the Xiaomi 11T’s AMOLED display.
Although the latter supports HDR10+ content, the former can display HDR10. Also, the 11T has Gorilla Glass Victus, while this phone only has Gorilla Glass 5. These are still great items for the price.
It is a real feast for the eyes in my daily use. The colors pop and the calibration isn’t overly exaggerated unlike other AMOLED displays.
I’m fully aware of AMOLED’s burn-in issues, but I’d still prefer IPS-LCD phones any day. I mean, look at the deep black colors that go perfectly with the camera cutouts and its glossy black bezels.
Redmi Note 11 Pro Review With Pros And Cons
Apart from the bright and shiny screen, there are also stereo speakers. Whether I’m playing K-dramas full of dramatic dialogue or K-Pop songs that are loud, soft, or a mix in between, its speakers are clear and loud enough.
Whether it’s in my quiet room or doing my concert tour in the bathroom, its volume and clarity fills the void with just 60 percent volume.
The only disappointment for me is that video content playback is limited to 1080p Full HD only. This is understandable since it only has a Full HD+ display resolution, but playing 4K content gives better picture quality with sharper details. I can only see the chipset as the culprit behind this limitation – especially when this phone only records Full HD 1080p videos.
Since we already talked about its chip, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is equipped with Snapdragon 695. It is one of the latest mid-range chipsets with 5G support.

Different fans need to hear me. Just because it’s a Snapdragon chip doesn’t mean it’s always better than its MediaTek counterpart. We’re not really big on benchmarks, but in case you’re wondering, its closest competitor, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G chip, completely beat the Snapdragon 695 based on this comparison chart. In fact, the Redmi Note 11 Pro (or the Chinese version of this phone) has the aforementioned MediaTek chipset.

As with all games we play with different hardware requirements, not all chipsets are created equal. It also proves a point to me that having a Snapdragon processor doesn’t automatically mean it’s a “better performing smartphone” than other MediaTek phones with the same capabilities.
If you are concerned about 5G speed, it still depends on the carrier and region. In my test, it gave me fast download and upload speeds while on the subway in a cafe that regular 4G LTE couldn’t provide.

Xiaomi calls its fast charging technology “Mi Turbo Charge”. It went from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes using the included charger. It took 45 minutes to complete a full charge. It’s safe to say that the promised 42-minute download speed lives up to its results. It’s also not too far off the 11T’s reliable 36-minute charging speed.
After turning on the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G for the first time, you will be greeted by Xiaomi’s custom MIUI Android skin.
If you are coming from old Xiaomi, Redmi. or even a POCO phone (Or Pocophone. Your call), the changes in the UI experience won’t be that drastic. Besides the default Control Center and lack of app drawer, gestures are also a way to make your navigations easier.
Although it has the latest MIUI 13 release, it is still based on Android 11 instead of Android 12. Not quite a deal, but it still counts under the limited software updates that Android phones get every three years.

I already mentioned how similar the Xiaomi 11T is to the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. This phone has things that Xiaomi doesn’t at its price.
Apart from the inclusion of a top speaker, there is also an IR (infrared) blaster and a 3.5mm audio jack at the top. Those who are still used to wired headphones/earphones and turn their phones into universal remotes will benefit more from these forgotten necessities.
While the bottom looks like any other Android smartphone, the cool part is actually its charging.
While the Xiaomi 11T supports dual micro SIM, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has a hybrid SIM slot, where the second SIM slot doubles as a microSD card slot. This is a must-have feature for people who store a lot of files. It’s also a better way to protect your photos, videos, and other files than online backups that are subscription-based and rely on a fast internet connection.
