Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max Review: The New Value For Money King?
Visually, these phones are basically the same. They differ only in the camera part and the included accessory (charger). Besides, up or down, you can’t tell the difference. But it’s not just looks; Specs, and by extension, performance, are the same. It’s a nice phone too, and if I didn’t know better, I’d guess the price around 30k, maybe more.
Both the phones have a 6.67-inch FHD+ 60 Hz LCD display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, 4/6/8 GB RAM, 64/128 GB storage, a 5,020 mAh battery and a quad-camera bump on the back — which is an 8 MP Ultra-wide camera, a 5 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth sensor.
Now for the differences: the Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a 48 MP main rear camera (built in 12 MP) compared to the 64 MP unit (built in 16 MP) on the Max pro. You get 4/6 GB RAM options on the Pro and 6/8 GB options on the Pro Max. Finally, the Pro gets a pretty decent 18 watt bundled charger and the Max gets a more powerful 33 watt charger. The Pro starts at Rs 13,999 (4/64) and goes up to Rs 16,499 (6/64).
Is it a few megapixels here or there? And in the long run you don’t really need a destructive 33 watt charger, do you?
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro: Should You Purchase It At Rs 12,999?
Performance is a sore point on both the phones. Now Xiaomi tells me that it opted for the more efficient 60 Hz display and SD720G chipset (as opposed to the 90 Hz display and MediaTek G90T SoC on the competing Realme 6) because:
Both are good arguments, and Xiaomi is not wrong. However, once you use the Realme 6 (Review) and especially play games on it — heavy games like
, etc. – you can really feel the difference. Even in normal use, the Pro and Pro Max stutter noticeably, especially when browsing and using picture-in-picture video mode.
And the Realme 6, although it has a smaller battery (4,300 mAh), a faster display and a more power-conscious SoC, lasts most of the day (7-8 hours of screen-on time Pro Max compared to 8-10), so Battery life gains aren’t very noticeable in real-world use.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro’s camera setup is disappointing. The main camera is good in good light, very good, in fact. However, drop the light a bit or try to shoot indoors and you’ll be left with — more often than not — blurry, out-of-focus shots, which can also be poorly exposed. I suspect it has more to do with the lower shutter speed and ISO sensitivity, but in any case, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max’s camera is better.

On the other hand, the Pro Max is great. Images are sharp and clear and have enough detail for those looking to do a little cropping. Shutter speeds also seem faster and less ghosting when trying to capture fast-moving subjects.
In night mode, the difference between the two phones is night and day. Literally. The Note 9 Pro’s Night Mode offers slightly more detail than Normal Mode, while the Note 9 Pro Max’s Night Mode is roughly comparable to the iPhone 11’s Night Mode, at least in terms of color and exposure.

In video too, the Note 9 Pro Max is ahead. Both cameras struggle a bit with focus, but the Note 9 Pro can’t for the life of it get the scene right. In the bird-eating video seen here, the Note 9 Pro can’t maintain the exposure while the Note 9 Pro Max does so easily.
When it comes to selfies, both cameras are quite good. The Pro Max’s 32MP selfie is slightly sharper, but image quality is largely comparable.
Both phones feature 8 MP and 5 MP ultra-wide macros as advertised. They aren’t great, but you have the option to use them if needed.
Xiaomi has really outdone itself in the design department with the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max, I hope it improves a bit more on the performance front.

The Redmi Note 9 is a line of Android-based smartphones, part of the Redmi Note series, a sub-brand of Redmi, Xiaomi Inc.
The Note 9/10X 4G measures 162.3 mm × 72.2 mm × 8.9 mm (6.39 in × 2.84 in × 0.35 in) and weighs 199 grams (7.0 oz), which is heavier than usual for a 6.53-inch phone.
The curved (smooth) back feels like glass, the front is made of Gorilla Glass 5 and the frame is made of plastic. The bottom is heavy to prevent the device from tipping and falling. Bezel and camera bump are small.
