With a cast that includes DeVito, Haddish, Wilson, Stanfield and Dawson, who are obviously entertaining talents, they keep the spirit alive by delivering spirited performances of Dippold’s material. They add to the entertainment value with their goofy camaraderie and play to their best comedic qualities. DeVito is as angry and impulsive as Frank Reynolds, Haddish is as confident and sassy as any character she’s played, and Dawson is charming and naturally funny.
Stanfield’s Ben, a one-time astrophysicist who has designed a device that will allow him to see the paranormal, struggles through — get this — grief for his late wife, positioned as a boss. Going into this supernatural situation and realizing that spirits and ghosts exist, the film employs another “protagonist overcoming pain” arc. But unlike other stories of the same kind, Stanfield takes Ben’s pain seriously and sometimes translates it too well in his performance. In several scenes, Ben describes his grief and the effects of the loss on him. His face turns into a puddle that sells you on his feelings. His ability to contextualize Ben’s pain in such moments or share a heart-to-heart with charming newcomer Dillon shows just how good Stanfield is. For no reason, Stanfield decided to give a hell of a show in a simple Disney movie based on a theme park attraction.
On the other hand, Owen Wilson is the funniest actor in the movie as Father Kent. Often stealing the show with his brand of relaxed energy and upbeat positivity, Kent is the only refreshing character. Despite the habit and the name, Kent is the most tired priest whose prayers are half-baked. Something about that quality subverts the “priest” role, which makes it even funnier.
Simien’s direction offers some decent chills, especially when he exploits the horror potential of the setting. Where Dippold’s strengths are writing ensemble characters and interpreting personalities, his script lacks commitment to a central arc. In one scene, Ben recounts how his late wife passed in detail while sobbing, and then Bruce interacts with an inappropriate joke about his cholesterol. While it’s always a bet to break up an emotional scene with humor, it’s often hard in this film. Tonal inconsistencies aside, many jokes rely on sitcom-level trademark humor that gets cheap laughs. And no offense to Dippold, but knowing his work, it’s the same quality.
At this point, I’ve become numb to describing how bad a movie’s CGI quality is. After “Barbenheimer”, where the money and passion that went into these projects are reflected on the screen, it feels like a whiplash to return to another blockbuster with a huge price, bringing generic CGI and countless images green-screened, mostly. in useless spaces. Alt-timeline sequence. It’s like watching dry money on the screen when there are more competent and practical ways to make it look like Curtis was in a crystal ball.
I’m sorry, but CGI is nothing compared to artists like Rick Baker. Baker evoked a gothic identity that made you feel like you were in the mansion. The lifeless green shield that surrounds the artists at all times, mostly in close-ups, is frustratingly hollow. Hardly get to bask in the production design of this building because everything seems generic.

The talented ensemble and spectacular sets will appeal to die-hard Disney fans. Disney’s Old Key West Resort was the first Disney Vacation Club property at Disney World. Now, of course, DVC is spread across many Disney resorts, and you don’t have to be a DVC member to stay at Old Key West. But this history gives Old Key West some unique features over other Disney World resorts.
The first thing you should know about Disney’s Old Key West Resort is that it is an EXTREMELY spread out resort. These are not hotel rooms where you can easily walk into the lobby. Instead, this is a sprawling resort located on a golf course, and many people use their cars to get to different parts of the resort on a regular basis.
The main part of this island themed resort (hence the name Old Key West) is called the Hospitality House. Here you will find the resort lobby, restaurants, shopping and the main pool. Because this resort has a relaxed island feel, there is a lot of use of outdoor space. All restaurants, the Conch Flats General Store and the Hospitality House lobby are connected outside.

Due to the layout of the resort, if you are not driving to Disney World, Old Key West can be a more difficult resort to navigate. There are buses that run to the lobby area (the theme park buses that run through the resort always stop at the last lobby) and many of the buildings are within walking distance. However, if you are in one of the distant buildings, it may feel inconvenient to reach the lobby without a car.
