One of the price segments that adequately caters to Indian needs is the budget segment. The icing on the cake is when these ultra-cheap devices come with premium features, ending our envy of the expensive ones in the mobile world. Samsung, like Xiaomi, Realme, is aiming for the same and has launched a new budget phone in its Galaxy M series called the Samsung Galaxy M31.

Samsung Galaxy M31 6gb Ram/ 128gb Storage Smartphone
The Samsung Galaxy M31 is a well-designed and simple when it comes to budget smartphones. Not much is happening, but everything we have on our plate is still very exciting. When I first held the Galaxy M31, it looked huge. But as it got used to my hands, I realized that it was easy after all. The device is made of polycarbonate, it comes in two colors: Ocean Blue and Space Black. I got the black color and love the classic black tone of the device, which can never go wrong with a smartphone or anything painted black. Although the smartphone does not have a glass back, it does not come in the design competition and offers us a stylish design, not cheap, and a solid design.
On the build side, the Galaxy M31 sports a rectangular camera module on the back of the top left corner. The camera setup consists of a triple camera sensor and an LED flash. In the middle is the fingerprint scanner, followed by the Samsung logo at the bottom. On the front there is a water drop at the top and a small sprout. The earpiece has a 3.5 mm audio jack, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker ring (left to right). I have nothing on my mind. On the left side of the smartphone is the SIM slot, and on the left side is the volume rocker and on/off button. Speaking of the volume button, it is placed very high and reaching it is not as easy as it is on any other phone.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 is not a well-designed phone and does not bring anything new. But, it has a decent look, and I give it good marks for its simplicity.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 has a 6.4-inch Full HD + Super AMOLED display, known as Infinity-U. The name comes from the presence of a drop of water. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is a bit disappointing. The smartphone has visual features that are usually present in every case of Samsung phones. There is adaptive brightness, blue light filter, Dark mode, a choice between Vivid and Natural display colors, Always On, Accidental Touch Protection, Touch Sensitivity and more. Although all the display features prove useful, the accidental touch protection does not offer any protection, as the device is easily accessed accidentally.
Samsung Galaxy M31 Review: Big Battery And Powerful Cameras On A Budget
The display experience is better than the best, and this is where Samsung does not excel. With the modern budget we get a look that is comfortable to use. The screen is neither large nor small and is well lit. The Infinity-U display ensures the perfect screen size for both consumption and streaming video. Be it YouTube or Netflix or any other streaming service for that matter, watching content was great. The smartphone has made many people happy to watch Netflix on their TV (Amazon Fire Stick is a blessing here), and this is the good side of the Galaxy M31.
Starting with the camera setup, the Galaxy M31 has a quad camera setup on the back. There’s a 64MP main snapper, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro lens. We get a 32MP camera. The phone supports various camera features such as 4K video recording, slow motion video, The slow mode is Super Steady mode, LED flash, HDR mode, night mode, and others.
My only gripe with the Galaxy M31’s camera is that it’s decent. The cameras work well in most all lighting conditions and that is a plus point. The negative point is the grainy pictures of the indoor conditions (of course the upscaling). We often get detailed images and the results are not processed too much. But they reflect more saturated colors. The ultra-wide-angle lens is excellent, as it is in every Samsung phone, and the HDR mode also works well. However, the macro lens is very disappointing and not able to capture as much detail as I expected. For others, Night Mode works well, not as brilliantly as Live Focus works but in a mood like a macro lens.
The 32MP front shooter is excellent. Decorations are minimal and details are highlighted. But even in this case the images are for warm tones and that is a bit poor. The video section works well; The ‘Super Steady’ mode delivers the stability it claims to offer, 4K videos are also good (it records at 360fps) and slow motion videos are above average.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 has the company’s Exynos 9611 processor, along with 6 GB of RAM. The phone gets two types of internal storage: 64GB and 128GB, of which I managed the latter. The storage can be expanded up to 512GB with a memory card. The phone works as a decent daily driver. I’m a “basic smartphone user” and don’t push a device to the limit. So, for me the Galaxy M31 did more than good. From using social media to streaming videos to playing games (both PUBG Mobile and Candy Crush Saga) to clicking photos – all tasks were done easily and we didn’t face many problems with the smartphone. However, there were times when it got stuck and added some apps to the background. This is greatly reduced with a simple ‘Reduce Animation’ trick from the Settings menu. As a reminder, this trick also worked well with the Galaxy S10 Lite.
The battery is the main source of the Galaxy M31. With a large 6,000mAh battery, the Galaxy M31 clearly stands out in the budget arena. The battery, in my use, easily lasted me two days, and I knew that I was safe (for all the extreme views) on one charge. One problem I had was the slow loading. The 15W fast charging does not allow the device to open quickly, so I expect Samsung to focus on this area in its smartphones as well.
As for the UI, I’m starting to like the Samsung UI 2.0 with the Galaxy S10 Lite and I’m sticking to that position. The UI is clean and easy to navigate. Packed with focus mode, digital well-being, parental controls, a dark mode, and some hints, you don’t have to face any problems with the smartphone interface. However, what I didn’t like was a number of preloaded programs (bloatware) and this time I didn’t like their existence. Among other things, the fingerprint scanner and face unlock were fast and the audio quality was excellent. However, I missed the in-box headphones, which I have a feeling Samsung will eventually start adding to its smartphones as well.
Samsung Galaxy M31, with a starting price of Rs. 14, 999, is another move by Samsung to maintain its grip on the budget segment. This time it’s not a bad attempt, because the large 6,000mAh battery steals the show. However, upgrading the Galaxy M30s is not a good idea as the two smartphones share most of the features. It competes with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro which comes with a MediaTek Helio G90T processor and Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and the Realme XT with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy M31 Review: Best Budget Phone
Although the Galaxy M31 has some shortcomings compared to its competition, the smartphone is not inferior and therefore it is an option to consider the UI (I like MIUI) and decent cameras apart from the battery.
