Update M31 Samsung Mobile Specification Review – Samsung Galaxy M31s review: Two steps forward, one step back The Galaxy M31s solves the problems of its predecessor, but it sticks to the same old chipset and loses performance.

Priced at Rs 20,499, the Samsung Galaxy M31 (Review) is another solid Android smartphone at the top end of the budget smartphone segment in India. When it launched earlier this year, it offered great value for money, given its waterdrop AMOLED display and 64MP camera. The only thing holding the M31 back was its plastic body, which felt rather cheap, and its lack of playability.

It also made the colorful and flashy designs of the Redmi Note 8 Pro (Review) (and more recently the Note 9 Pro Max) appealing to buyers looking for a smartphone at the top end of the budget segment. And then there’s also the recent threat in the form of the OnePlus Nord, which gives you crazy bang for your buck in terms of hardware and performance for an extra Rs 5,000.

The recently launched M31s isn’t a completely new phone, but with a few tweaks it works on some paint points of its predecessor to give you a similar phone. Samsung believes the changes will convince users to choose the M31 over the Redmis and Pocos.

But will they go together? How does the M31 v2.0 stack up against the competition? Let’s find out.

The “glassy” (plastic that looks like glass) back isn’t bad at all and feels much more premium compared to the M31. The Mirage Blue two-tone finish looks a bit bright. The straight sides and slightly rounded corners look very nice, as does the overall build quality. Yes, it does pick up fingerprints, but you can wipe them off pretty easily.

The M31s have a nice satisfying “click” when you press the power button (properly).

I like that the power button (which also has a fingerprint reader) is a bit hard to press. I think this is intentional so you don’t lock the phone when you press the power button to authenticate the app. This was a problem when I reviewed the small but powerful Galaxy S10e a year ago. Most smartphone brands can’t get holes right. The large pinhole space is often placed so deep into the field of view that it takes up twice as much space as the notification panel on a regular smartphone.

Samsung does a great job with keeping the camera unit (or cavity) small, and it sits just 3-4mm from the top of the display. The result? It doesn’t eat into the display, but it takes up less space than a regular waterdrop notch, giving you more viewing space.

Super AMOLED panels are known for their deep blacks. While the panel on this phone doesn’t compare to the good stuff you get in the mid-range with the A series, it doesn’t disappoint. Some may prefer the standard Vivid color mode, but I felt it was a bit oversaturated, with reds appearing orange. After setting it to ‘Natural’, colors looked sharp and the deep blacks made for a really comfortable video streaming experience compared to regular LCD panels. Brightness wasn’t an issue either, as the content was readable in direct sunlight.

In fact, the display is worth the extra money compared to cheaper LCD alternatives from Chinese smartphone brands.

Given the Exynos 9611 chipset inside, the M31s isn’t as fast as I’d like. But things are still smooth enough and I didn’t notice any hiccups in day-to-day use, except when calling back and forth between third-party apps.

One UI is well-designed, with large icons and an emphasis on one-handed use, with all UX elements (in native apps) moved to the bottom half of the display. Add that AMOLED display to the mix, and you’ve got features like an always-on display that won’t hurt battery life, either, given the phone’s larger-than-usual battery.

If you’re not a fan of Xiaomi’s MIUI, you should try One UI, which is really an ad-free take on custom Android skins.

The 64-megapixel Sony sensor gets the job done with warm color tones and enough detail, whether it’s daylight or low light. In dim light, the volume rises a bit, but it is also well controlled in dark scenes. Mandatory.

Switch to night mode and you might be a little disappointed. The image quality is average, a slight decrease in noise leads to a lack of detail in textures such as leaves, walls, etc. This is especially the case when there is little or no lighting in the scene, as shown below.

The biggest problem is that Night mode literally cuts off a large part of the scene to the extent that you can see almost 2x what you see in the viewfinder in auto mode. Instead of the usual 16-megapixel internal output, you get a low-quality 7-megapixel image.

I understand that clipping the output of the sensor gives you more room for software adjustment (to compensate for hand movement). But cutting too much is really taking things too far.

Also, there’s no getting away from this crop factor on the main 64-megapixel shooter in night mode. Switch to the 12MP ultra-wide camera in the same mode and the results are not really useful and blurry at best.

The 5-megapixel macro camera was impressive. It doesn’t have an autofocus system, so you have to hold the camera firmly in the sweet spot of 4-5cm from your subject. The photos are a little soft, but as you can see in the image above, the images have a lot of detail, such as the ridges of the snail shell.

Selfies taken with the 32 MP camera come out pretty well and have good dynamic range, but are a bit oversaturated. This results in some blurry photos in low light, but there’s a Night mode that makes up for it.

Video recording in 4K, 1080p and 720p is surprisingly available on the front and rear cameras, but both are limited to 30fps. Stability is really good, so is the frame rate that stays consistent. Low light images aren’t bad either, it’s just that the camera takes an extra second to focus on the scene or subject.

The 6,000 mAh battery lasts a long time thanks to the chipset’s tight power consumption, and will easily last you two days of non-casual gaming use. The 25W charger is fast and will get you up and running in about an hour and a half, which isn’t bad considering the battery life.

Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime Review, Pros And Cons

The Exynos 9611 chipset is not the powerhouse. This sAMOLED display is great for a phone designed to keep you entertained, whether it’s playing casual games or streaming movies.

This chipset may not affect Samsung’s well-optimized OneUI, but it does affect gaming performance. The 9611 can run most games well at low to medium graphics settings, and things start to slow down at high graphics settings.

. After testing these games, it became clear that the M31s were not designed for gaming. The phone heats up with medium or high graphics settings and takes some time to cool down as well. This is a problem, and after about 45 minutes of play, you will experience significant lag, slow loading of in-game characters, etc.

Unfortunately, this was also an issue with the M31, and Samsung seems to have missed an opportunity by keeping the same chipset and creating a better design and charging speed. Qualcomm’s counterparts are better in this regard, and this makes the Poco X2 (730G) a better choice when it comes to gaming.

The sound quality through the speakers was very loud, clear and enough to fill a small room. 3.5mm headphone jack? Here it is…

If you don’t mind giving up on a Chinese product, you can’t ignore the better build quality of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (Rs 16,999) and Poco X2 (Rs 17,499), both of which fare worse in day-to-day use. better cameras with more detail and you’ll get great gaming performance too.

Their price is a little lower, but this beautiful AMOLED display, 6000 mAh battery and interface are not familiar.
