In general, I found the images taken during the day to be lacking in sharpness and range of motion compared to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in this category.
The main camera can quickly focus on objects in daylight, but this will be a bit blurry at sunset. By default, the main camera is 16 MP and uses a pixel array to provide brighter and sharper images. You can manually change the aspect ratio to 3:4 64MP to take high resolution photos. Moving away from the main camera, the 8MP wide-angle Samsung Galaxy M31 can take satisfying wide-angle shots in daylight. The colors look good and have enough detail as long as you don’t zoom in and pixel-pop. Portrait mode with Live Focus mode can capture friendly bokeh as long as the blur effect is not severe. The skin is warm and soft, but there is good detail to be found.
Finally, we have a 5MP macro camera that can get up to 3cm to the subject. Again, best used during the day, the macro camera allows you to take creative close-ups. Macros can be clearly seen and detailed as long as the subject remains. Colors, however, tend to be muted and washed out compared to the natural bokeh that can be captured with the main camera.
The Galaxy M31 is pretty good at video recording. Both front and rear cameras can record UHD video. The main camera also supports Super Steady mode, which does a pretty good job of keeping videos from shaking when shooting on mobile.
Samsung has also upgraded the front camera from 16MP to 32MP, which means selfies will be sharper on the Galaxy M31. The Exynos 9611 is a decent mid-range processor that handles everyday tasks with ease. It can also run graphically intensive games like PUBG at default graphics settings and high frame rates.
