It wasn’t that long ago that Samsung was the default option here. And it’s not that Samsung still doesn’t make great phones, it’s just that budget phones haven’t been as exciting in recent years. At least, not compared to the competition.

Sport is another matter. I played RoadRash on the phone and it really wasn’t easy. I wish Samsung went with a more powerful processor, something like the Snapdragon 730G chipset that the Poco X2 offers at 15,999, for example. The Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro also pack more capable hardware at this price point.
The battery is the main feature of the phone – 6,000 mAh is simply amazing. I used the phone for a day and a half and even then it was not completely gone. One small (okay, it’s not that small) compromise you have to make is with charging time. You’ll have to make do with a 15V charger. If you are planning to be outside for a while, it is better that you switch to Zen Mode while waiting for the phone to fully charge. Plus, once charged, you don’t have to worry about long battery life.
However, the display and single speaker are great, and I think this phone could be a great option for people who just consume a lot of video. In fact, few phones offer OLED displays at this price, and if that’s important to you, the M31 is a no-brainer. Paired with the huge battery, Netflix can be your thing all day.

There are a few reasons to buy this phone, but to be honest, these are good ones. The OLED display is great, as well as the battery life. The performance is good enough for day-to-day tasks, and there’s really no reason not to pick up the phone, other than the camera performance, unless you want to sport much.
The reasons for not buying this phone are equally compelling. Phones like Realme 6 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offer more powerful, more exciting and better cameras. Phones also charge fast.
To return to my original question: does the Galaxy M31 change anything for the Samsung? I don’t think it does.
