Update Jurassic Park Collectable Review – Stealth-Puzzler Jurassic World Aftermath Collection Escapes From VR And Moves To Switch But Should It Stay Down? Finger Guns review.

What if I told you that Jurassic World Aftermath Collection is basically a first-person version of the infamous kitchen scene from the first movie, extended for the entire game? If you’re like me, the prospect makes you equally panicked and curious. Apart from the iconic first encounter with the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, the kitchen scene is undoubtedly the most memorable for me. So, yes, when I saw the trailer, it immediately went back to that scene and it also looked like Cellulite from Alien: Isolation. 1-2 winning combination for knockout, right? Right?…

The game was originally developed by Coatsink for the Oculus Quest (and Quest 2). Luckily, the Switch version is a complete 1st and 2nd piece set that seamlessly ties them together. So you won’t be pulling your hair out while you wait for the year to end. Comparing it to Alien: Isolation is an excellent summary. Instead of Xenomphorus, you are being viciously pursued by a Velociraptor. This is coupled with a complete lack of combat, so stealth and distraction are your best friends.

Jurassic World Live Tour Is A Spectacle That Brings The Magic Of The Movies To Life

Jurassic World Aftermath takes place after the events of Jurassic World and before Fallen Kingdom. You play as Sam, joined by Amelia Everett. Initially, you are tasked with infiltrating the laboratory facilities of Isla Nublar, the setting of the Jurassic World, and recovering important documents. Things immediately take a turn for the worse thanks to some obnoxious pterodactyl causing your helicopter to crash, but the mission remains the same. Find those documents and escape somehow.

Sam is quiet but in your ear Laura Bailey’s Dr. He has Amelia Everett. She plays the role with emotion, variety and excitement throughout the game from moment to moment. Also included are Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong reprising their roles; but none of their stories play a major role in Aftermath. This game is definitely BD Wong’s Dr. It adds depth to Henry Wu and reveals his personality perhaps even more than in the movies.

This gives Blue Velociraptor an origin story that also connects with the characters in the game. It’s mostly about Amelia though, and as a standalone story, it does a great job of filling in the gaps that could fill Jurassic World fans if you manage to beat the game.

The fact that Aftermath is split into two is most evident in gameplay. You’ll spend most of the game passing the Velociraptors that roam around the rooms you enter. Most goals are to get from point A to point B and access computers and run them for one reason or another. As Simon said they are blocked by some puzzles or tapping on the right frequency. They get more interesting in chapter 2 with more unique puzzles, but pretty much the same as long as you avoid the dinosaurs.

You also have a tool that can cause electrical noise interference, although I rarely use it. I may have missed a trick and made it easy for myself, but I didn’t feel the need to use it for most of the game. There’s the ability to tilt left or right using the ZL or ZR to compensate for the lack of mobility in the VR equivalent, although I appreciate it, but I don’t use it very often.

You have an endurance meter for the sprint and a load meter for distraction, but I don’t find either that helpful. I think trying to convert this from VR to flat screen experience isn’t all that successful. This is because the urgency and involvement of the player is limited to pressing a button which mostly does this for you. When the game is more demanding and involved, it can sometimes feel subtle and unresponsive.

Privacy can make or break your enjoyment of the Jurassic World Aftermath Collection. I also found the Velociraptor AI absolutely frustrating. It feels lost in the translation from VR to Switch. The spatial awareness of the dinosaurs seemed independent of whether the dinosaurs were docked or eclipsed. Many times I found myself being surprised by a dinosaur in hidden segments with no warning. Combined with the fact that the controls are a bit cumbersome, I will encounter the crash screen more often. When episode 1 combines this with stale puzzles, there is no tension or fear, only boredom and frustration.

However, if you pass Episode 1, there is almost a day and night difference from Episode 2. In the second half, the levels are more varied, with new dinosaurs and shorter intervals between story beats. It’s a shame because I wish the whole game was more like this as it took four hours to get there. You do mostly the same thing for 8-10 hours, although the puzzles vary a bit.

There were a few more emails to read before part 2, but they weren’t very interesting. I would love some collectibles like logs or trinkets that visitors left behind to further build the environment. Instead, the game plays a bit of a note and doesn’t turn things upside down until it’s too late to keep my attention.

The golden shade look is unusual when you consider catering to a wide age range. You’ll also appreciate the style Coatsink chose, rather than reviewing dinosaur photos for realism and how good they look. A crisp, clean presentation that could perhaps be done with more atmospheric lighting to raise the level of fear. The fields mingle within one space as they are all lab sections, but it’s unmistakably Jurassic World where the iconography and scenery are all wrong.

The music, of course, includes some of John Williams’ masterpieces. However, the music shines when Vince Webb deviates from the obvious soundtrack and dives into his own music. Prestigious orchestral sounds recreate the eerie wonder of the Jurassic Park experience with sound. String melodies evoke melancholy and strengthen the tone of the playing.

The Switch isn’t the best place to play Jurassic World Aftermath, as the flatscreen port takes away a lot of mobility and puzzle-solving skills. It feels slower and less interactive than the original Oculus version. However, if you can’t play in VR and want more Jurassic World, you might be interested. There’s no major reveal in the game, but it adds a depth to the established movie franchise that could be entertaining for fans.

Hours of bumpy start might put you off, but if you love the Jurassic series this might be for you. Stealth doesn’t translate very well from VR, but it’s handy, albeit with one caveat. However, the presentation and music perfectly complement the moral of the series, making it a competent Jurassic experience.
