At Apple, it is usual that the design does not change every year. So the manufacturer continues to rely on the design known from the iPhone X. It is the new back on which the frosted glass gives a different look. On the other hand, of course, the new triple camera stands out. It’s a design that’s sure to provoke debate. However, the cameras don’t stand out as much as some past close-ups would have you believe. So the iPhone is more stable on a table than you might expect.
Apple is still counting on a hit in 2019. If you haven’t liked them so far, of course the one on the iPhone 11 Pro will be worried too. Those who have already adopted the notch need not get used to anything new here.
Personally, I don’t mind the notch or the triple camera. I really like the new back too. Maybe also because it is less susceptible to fingerprints than the glass used before. As usual, the iPhone feels very well made and the iPhone 11 Pro is the perfect size for me from the triple range of iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. With the screen of 5.8 inches, it is also the smallest of the three models. But it is also noticeable that the iPhone 11 Pro has become heavier. It weighs 188 grams, but compared to many current Android smartphones or even the iPhone X (174 grams), this is quite noticeable. On the other hand, this also helps make the smartphone feel valuable.
DisplayMate experts have already praised the new Super Retina XDR display. That is not surprising. Apple screens are generally considered good. In practice, however, it must also be said that the screen could have more contrast and be brighter. But I didn’t like the screen of the iPhone X either, and the resolution of the 5.8-inch screen hasn’t changed since then. It’s still 2,436 x 1,125 pixels (458 PPI). However, Apple increased the contrast value from 1,000,000:1 to 2,000,000:1.

True Tone continues to do its job and automatically adjusts the white level to the ambient light. Since Apple introduced this feature, I like using it and it works very well with the iPhone 11 Pro. Finally, Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro once again has a top display that’s even slightly improved. Nothing to complain about here.
It’s a shame that Apple has removed 3D Touch. While it’s debatable how useful 3D Touch really was, there’s no substitute for the new Haptic Touch. Here the software and the Taptic engine work together to simulate a similar feeling without the special hardware. It’s like some things in life: you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.
I still remember the time Apple introduced the iPhone 5s with Touch ID. And how a discussion about biometric access methods in smartphones began. This continued when Apple introduced Face ID facial recognition with the iPhone X. In fact, Face ID is still the most secure facial recognition we find in smartphones. Maybe Google will restock Pixel 4 soon. But otherwise it seems that Android phone vendors are returning to fingerprint sensors, sometimes with the option of 2D facial recognition.
According to Apple, the iPhone 11 Pro has further improved facial recognition. The iPhone 11 Pro unlocks maybe a few milliseconds faster than the iPhone X. After all, Face ID worked well before and continues to do so. And those who appreciate facial recognition that also works in the dark (and often enough with sunglasses too) will appreciate the notch. This might bother some users, I personally would rather use Face ID than an inconsistent fingerprint sensor under the screen.
Is Apple’s Iphone Upgrade Program Worth It?
A new iPhone always means a new iOS version. Somehow Apple missed something with iOS 13. Already during the first days of my testing several updates followed to fix errors. But you can live with the current iOS 13.1.2 version installed on our test device. The new Dark Mode is very popular and can be turned on automatically at certain times of the day if needed. If it is active, the programs adapt automatically. While they support dark mode, and so far not all have. This looks silly when some widgets are already dark and others are still sitting in between with the light theme. I also think it’s unfortunate that some third-party apps provide additional app icons for dark mode, but not Apple’s own apps. Even in dark mode with a dark background, the bright symbols for calendar, memories and music sit on the home screen.
Apple has also adapted the camera and photo application, of course also to accommodate the new camera functions. The Sign in with Apple feature, which lets you sign into apps and hide your email address if you want, is a welcome addition. This should limit tracking and enhance privacy. For example, if developers offer a Facebook login or Google option in their app, they must also support Apple’s service. For existing apps, however, developers have until April 2020 to add it.
All new iPhones are based on the A13 Bionic, Apple’s new processor. It has six cores, with a maximum clock frequency of 2.66 GHz for the two high-performance cores. Apple never reveals how much memory your iPhone has. In any case, the iPhone 11 Pro should have 4GB. Elsewhere you can read from 6 GB RAM.
However, the amount of RAM in iPhones is never that important. Apple knows how to optimize iOS for its own hardware, so older iPhones usually run smoothly. So the iPhone 11 Pro is no surprise. The smartphone works fast and does everything you want. There was no case where the iPhone froze during my testing. But there was nothing else to wait for.

It is also difficult to accurately compare the performance of iPhones and Android phones due to software optimization. In the benchmark tests, the iPhone 11 Pro Max performed even better than the iPhone 11 Pro. On the other hand, the values are so close that it is not expected in everyday life that the iPhone 11 Pro is much slower than its big brother.
The iPhone was often smiled upon. After all, Apple has long relied on two cameras here, and five lenses are now catching on the back of some Android devices. Now Apple is following suit and has installed a triple camera.
The movement in the camera app is ingenious. Switching between the different cameras here will be as smooth as butter. It’s just fun to switch between cameras and see how the image changes.

The iPhone 11 Pro is also heavier because the smartphone has a larger battery. With 3,079 mAh this is still much less than in some Android smartphones. However, the iPhone 11 Pro offers good battery life. Getting through the day is not a problem, a day and a half is also possible. Especially since the dark mode in combination with the OLED screen can save some power and then, of course, there is the iOS battery saving mode.
The battery life of the iPhone 11 Pro is in any case convincing and is a big argument for this smartphone compared to older iPhones. Of course, how much it shortens battery life during the lifetime of the device cannot yet be estimated. In the past, there were sometimes nasty surprises here. It’s also nice that Apple finally put an 18-watt charger in the box.
