Best Smart Tv For 2023: Top Picks From Roku, Amazon, Google And More

The Toshiba 50U5050 has similarly narrow bezels on the front. It is light in weight and quite slim, and the IR sensor protruding from the bottom is in the center. Behind the IR sensor is a multi-function hard button for when you just can’t find the remote.

The included stand looks premium and holds the TV firmly in place, meaning there’s no shifting around when you place the TV on the table. The TV comes with a wall mount and Toshiba also offers free installation.

There’s the usual set of connectivity options on the back, and they’re thankfully well-placed and easily accessible when the TV is on its stand. However, the ports are towards the center rather than the sides, making them difficult to access once the TV is wall-mounted.

All three HDMI 2.0 ports have HDCP 2.2 for 4K@60Hz, and HDMI 1 has ARC. To enable 4K streaming from a 4K supported device, you must switch to Enhanced HDMI mode in System Settings. HDMI CEC worked flawlessly.

Other connectivity options include 2x USB 2.0, LAN port, audio out, optical out, AV port, antenna port, Bluetooth and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Dual-band Wi-Fi is not supported.

Users who watch DTH content will appreciate that the Toshiba remote control is fully loaded with a full set of buttons and options. The buttons are soft and we didn’t find much of a problem with their placement on the remote. It’s quite comfortable to hold and has hotkeys for Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video.

Instead of Android TV, Toshiba uses VIDAA OS, which lacks many popular apps, including Disney+Hotstar and Discovery+. The Toshiba 50U5050 also lacks Chromecast built-in for direct streaming, but users can mirror their phone’s screen via Miracast. The TV also integrates the Alexa home assistant, which should make it more convenient for people investing in Amazon’s smart home ecosystem.

Supported apps include Prime Videos, Netflix, YouTube, Zee5, Yupp YV and Hungama Play. Toshiba also includes its own content library, but it doesn’t have much to go on. Toshiba promises to add more applications in the first half of next year.

Samsung Tu8000 Crystal Uhd Tv Review: Good Design, Good Enough Performance

The good thing is that the software is lightweight, mature and easy to navigate. Even when testing the TV, we encountered very little stuttering, which is unusual for a TV in this price segment.

The UI is intuitive and people who are not tech savvy will be able to find what they are looking for with reasonable ease.

However, to fill the gap for a proper smart TV experience, you need to invest in an external streaming device like FireTV Stick 4K or Mi Box 4k.

This 50 inch 4K LED TV screen supports all types of HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and HLG. But you need to balance your expectations when it comes to HDR on affordable and mid-range TVs.

Black and white issues are common in sub-50K TVs, and the Toshiba 50U5050 is no different. These flaws, however, are not overwhelming, but are still very noticeable when you watch your TV in a dark environment or scenes with a white background.

Viewing angles are quite wide and the panel is not very reflective. The sounds are pleasant and the dynamic range is wide. Advanced users can use the options to further refine the various picture modes to their liking.

The difference between the TV’s SDR and Dolby HDR content is noticeable, which is also not very common in this price segment, where the brightness of the top panel is below HDR standards and there is no local contrast enhancement. is not a solution.

The HD and Full HD scales are very good, but they don’t live up to what we saw with the Realme SLED TV.

Sound quality from the Toshiba 50U5050’s 30W speakers is loud and clear, and regular users will be able to manage without a soundbar or external sound system. The speakers have Dolby Atmos support, but content in native apps and when streaming from the Fire TV didn’t detect Atmos and only displayed 5.1 audio.

Overall, consuming content on this Toshiba TV was a pleasant experience. We mostly streamed 4K Dolby Vision HDR content from our Fire TV Stick. The TV can reproduce detail in dark scenes and add brightness to bright scenes without feeling burnt out by the light. We preferred Dolby Vision Bright for most content, but sometimes Dolby Vision Dark felt nicer. When viewing SDR content, we often prefer dynamic mode.

Overall, the Toshiba 50U5050 is easy to recommend for its affordable price. And that’s because the basics are well covered. HDR and SDR picture quality is very good, sound output from the TV speakers is excellent, and all the expected connectivity options are available.

The only downside is that app support is very limited, and unlike most Android TVs in this price range, this one doesn’t support Chromecast built-in. These shortcomings can be remedied if you’re willing to spend a little more on a decent streaming device.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that a 32-inch TV was considered a huge panel, but the placement of the TCL 32S335 makes us feel like we’re looking at a giant tablet. If you’re looking for something small for the bedroom or maybe even the garage or camper, this budget Roku TV-powered TCL might be the size and price you need.

You won’t find much smaller or cheaper from a well-known manufacturer, and at TCL, you’re getting a TV from a top manufacturer. It’s the end of three strong periods in terms of U.S. model market share by the world’s third-largest TV maker.

The program is partnered with Roku, whose operating system provides all the settings and controls, as well as a platform of applications and services, while the hardware is TCL. This cheapest price only gets you 720p resolution, but that might be all you need.

It’s not often that we see a TV as small or as light as the TCL 32S335, which measures just 74cm wide and weighs just 3.7kg. You won’t struggle to carry it with one hand, nor to place it wherever you choose.

It is very basic in design but acceptable at this price. It has a frame that is about 1cm on three sides and about 2cm across the bottom of the frame. The placement of the processing circuits and rear-facing speakers makes up most of the seat’s 7cm depth, while the two arched legs add another 11cm.

In terms of connectivity, there are three HDMI sockets (including one with ARC), optical and headphone audio outputs, as well as a USB input. There’s no Ethernet port, but dual-band Wi-Fi will work. Bluetooth isn’t supported, but Apple AirPlay is supported, so you can stream content to this TV using any iOS device you already own.

Samsung Qn700c Is The Ideal 8k Tv Upgrade You Should Consider

There are two management options. Use either the Roku app or a small physical remote with shortcuts to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Sling, as well as navigation and volume controls. The latter is usually the better choice, although when you want to search or type words, it can be a bit slow and sticky. The app version keyboard is much better.

It’s a Roku TV, of course, and that means great apps and great usability. The UI will be familiar to anyone who has ever used the Roku platform. There’s a customized home page for your HDMI sources, Live TV, and the thousands of apps you’ve downloaded (“Roku Channels”).

You will find all the major services including local channels without any major interruptions, another reason why this platform is so popular. Along with those shown on the remote, you also get likes
