If you’re looking for pastel highlighters to add a pop of color to your journal or planner, you’ve come to the right place! I always love using my Tombow highlighters for easy inspirational planner ideas, but today I’m trying out a few different highlighters that are all pastel colors and make planning and organizing your month a breeze.

Pastel shades are great to use in your study notebooks and planners, as the colors are soft and the text underneath is easy to read. There are many color options available, so let’s compare a few.

Twin Tip Highlighters 5 Pcs Aesthetic Highlighters Pastel, Highlighter

BIC Bright Liner Grip Pastel Highlighter Set comes with 2 of each color, it’s 12 pens but only 6 colors. The chisel tip is firm, there’s a good grip area to hold the pen, and the cap snaps into place with a gentle snap. All 6 colors are beautiful unique pastel colors and the marker barrel color matches the ink color perfectly. I love this dress!!

The Zebra Pen Mildliner Dual Tip Highlighters are amazing – the set I have was purchased at Sams Club, I linked a similar one above. Each marker has a chisel tip and a broad marker tip The chisel tip is firm and the color options are beautiful and endless!

Pilot Frixion Light Pastel Collection Erasable Pens, 5-Pack, Erasable! That in itself is a turning point. Markers have an eraser under them and remove ink with friction. The eraser was very nice, but the yellow color was very fluorescent and not pastel at all. In addition, markers felt less juicy than others.

Crayola Tech Note Pastel Party Erasable Highlighter, 6 Count impressed me the most! The pastel party colorway has soft colors that are truly pastel. No neon here. The 6 colors complement each other beautifully and the clear tip wipes or removes colored ink from the page.

Staedtler Pastel Highlighter Pens, Pack Of 4

Amazon Basic Erasable Highlighter, Assorted Colors, 12-Pack comes in a nondescript brown box and although it says 12-pack, there are only 6 colors. The picture shows only 6 colors, I missed it when I bought it. The chisel tip of these highlighters is soft and flexible, and the 6 colors are not unique – the pinks are very similar. There are clear suggestions for clearing the errors, but overall they were disappointing.

Drawdart Aesthetic Highlighter, 12 double-sided pastel colors with a different color on each end! I love that there are 12 colors and only 6 pens (I mistakenly said 5 in the video). The color of the highlighter is nice and aesthetic, the chisel tip is firm and works well. However, the tip of the pen keeps unscrewing and can be annoying. Marker color bleeds through the page slightly.

I tried all these pastel highlighters in my Archer and Olive notebooks (which have thicker pages), as well as this simple mint green planner (which has thinner pages).

Overall, the Bic highlighters and Tech Note Crayola highlighters were very similar in color to the pastel highlighters and were the clear winners for me. Both of my middle school kids would use Bic highlighters, while I would try Crayola. I have never used an erasable highlighter before! Zebra mildliners are definitely cool, but if you buy a set, you can collect them!

If you read or study to the point of eye strain every day, pastel highlighters are a godsend. When my eyes are tired and there are many chapters left to finish, the last thing in my sight is the burning neon. I’ve been a big fan of soft highlighters since I went back to school, and these Stabilo Boss pastel highlighters are perfect for study time.

This 4-color set includes Breezy Blue, Dusty Grey, Frozen Fuchsia, and Pale Orange. Colors are saturated enough to be easily visible on the page, but subdued enough to be easy on the eyes. Gray can be a little difficult to see when highlighting on cool-toned paper or in shadows or static photocopies. However, it works well on plain, clean paper. Blue is my favorite, because it is the most calming and at the same time very visible.

The highlighter bodies are flat and wide, making them easy and comfortable to hold. The large surface area gives you excellent control for marking in straight lines. They have the classic chisel tip, which can be used to create wide lines or the tip can be bent to use for narrower marks. Bodies have plenty of markings, including barcodes, but I’m less concerned with the aesthetics of something as utilitarian as a highlighter. However, I go through them very quickly. But these last longer than most – the wide body holds a nice full cartridge.

The lid snaps into place and is easily removed with a small twisting motion. However, the cover is not revealing, which is a bit annoying for a highlighter. And there is no clip, which is a major bummer. I tend to use my highlighters as markers, but they need to hold that clip. Still, what they lack in cover features, they make up for with good ink.

The water-based ink of these highlighters is infused with a magic potion that prevents the tip from drying out even after prolonged use. It doesn’t dry out or itch even after hours of studying. This is very helpful, as it can be easy to get distracted while reading and forget the highlighter until you need it again. The flip side of this wet ink is that it doesn’t work very well with handwritten notes. It works well with printer ink or textbook pages, but it stains quite a bit on gel pens, ballpoint pens, and fountain pen ink (which is actually partially dissolved). Just a little smudged by mechanical pencil. For this reason, I think they are good for studying and using in school, and perhaps less useful for planners or notes.

My Favourite Highlighters… Are Markers⁉️

This set of 4 sells for $9.80 at JetPens, and individual colors are available for $2.45. This is a very fair price considering how long they last. This set will probably last me half a semester on its own, where a regular highlighter doesn’t last a week. I definitely recommend these if you have big studies in front of tired eyes.

As you can see in the photo above, if you’re Australian, Officeworks brand J Burrows has highlighters that are almost an exact replica of Stabilo Boss. They work just as well too!

I have the brilliant Staedtler Textsurfer and love them; They stand out as softly as the Stabilo Boss, so I guess the pastels are just as good. The colors also look similar.

I love these highlighters because they’re not super pastel, they’re somewhere in between. They are double-ended with a thin end and a thick end.

I have the bright colors of this brand but not the pastel colors. Rhinestones work very well: they stand out very softly in the shape of a pen.

I’m sure you’ve already heard about this. Expensive? yes But they have the best range of colors including the best range of pastel colors. There are many shades that highlighters don’t usually come in. If you want a cheap one
