Note that the best PC build recommendations are based on our industry expertise, market research and testing we’ve done on the key components of each build, namely the CPU, GPU and SSD. Best Cheap Gaming Laptop Under $1,000 For 2023

For $500, you can build a PC with a graphics card. You won’t get nearly as fast a GPU, but you’ll be able to play games at 1080p in no time. This is much more advanced than relying on traditional designs.
For the graphics card in this system, we go with Intel’s Arc A380. We didn’t like the card when it launched, but it’s now readily available on Newegg and has been for a few months. Besides, it’s faster than AMD’s competing RX 6400, comes with more VRAM, and most notably has full video codec/acceleration – including AV1 support to come.

The card averaged 54.7 fps in our benchmarks at 1080p medium, although updated drivers can improve things by 5-10%. If you want something faster and can stretch your budget for a few dollars, your best bet is the RX 6500 XT card, which costs $149 and can get you up to 65.8 fps at 1080p.
For our CPU, we’re going with the Intel Core i3-13100F which is just over $100 but brings a lot of pep to the price. This CPU has four cores, all cores, and a solid clock of 4.5 GHz. It comes with a cooler in the box so no one else is needed. We found the 13100F to be equivalent to AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600, which costs $30.
To work with our 13100F, we need an Intel 700 motherboard and the best price we found for one is the $99 MSI PRO B760M-P microATX microDX that uses DDR4 RAM (cheaper than DDR5) and offers support for – M.2 PCIe 3.0 or 4.0 SSDs. It even has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) port.
Our SSD is a WD Blue SN570 in 500GB capacity. When we tested the SN570 in 2021, we appreciated its great performance for the price. The non-DRAM-PCIe 3.0 M.2 drive boasts sequential read speeds of up to 3,500 MBps and write speeds of up to 300 MBps. Another $15 can get us up to 1TB capacity and even better.

We got 16GB of DDR4 PC-3200 RAM in the form of 2 x 8GB. The Silicon Power Value RAM we chose is not the most popular, but it’s cheap and from a reliable source. Whatever you do, don’t build or buy a gaming PC with less than 16GB of RAM.
Our case is the Thermaltake Versa H18, which comes with a glass case, something we don’t often see in a chassis under $50. It also has a lot of extra cooling room, with room for two 120 or 140mm fans (280mm radiator) on the front, and a rear fan. 120mm and a 120 or 140mm top fan. Our power supply is a Thermaltake Smart 500W series, as this is the most expensive PSU from a reliable source that we can find.
If you can stretch your budget from $500 to $800, you can enter a new world of gaming performance and output that will be good enough for heavy games at 1080p (uninterrupted). Here we upgraded from the 12 Core i3 to the Core i5-13400F, which has 6 active cores, 4 active and 16 threads in total, with a boost clock of 4.6 GHz.
With a price of just over $200 and performance that allowed us to deliver 152 fps in our 1080p suite, this is our pick for the best gaming CPU, based on price alone. In fact, the Core i5-13400F is such a good value that we recommend it for all three configurations. It also comes with a built-in cooler in the box.

To go with this Intel processor, we use ASRock B760M-HDV motherboard because it supports Gen 13 CPU without BIOS update. It is a DDR4 board so we can save money by using DDR4 memory. It also features two M.2 SSD slots, one of which supports PCIe 4.0.
Our graphics card for this article is the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT. At these low prices, AMD offers more bandwidth than Nvidia or Intel. According to the GPU Benchmark Hierarchy, the 6650 XT is below the older RTX 2080 and above Intel’s Arc A770. It delivered a solid 79.8 fps in a suite of 8 games at 1080p Ultra settings and 56.7 fps at 1440p ultra.
For our storage, we choose the 1TB WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD, which was only $45 at the time of publication. PCIe 3.0 drives promise read and write speeds of 3,500 and 3,000 MBps. When we tested the WD Blue SN570, we put it to the test and found that it stood up to all the best PCIe 3.0 SSDs, coming within a few milliseconds of the SK hynix Gold P31 in our gaming test time.
We’re going with TeamGroup’s cheaper DDR4 RAM here, and stepping up to the 600W version of Thermaltake’s Smart power supply to support more powerful CPUs and GPUs.
