The OnePlus 11 arrived in early 2023, following OnePlus’ increasingly familiar (yet strange) release schedule of flagships landing in China a month before the rest of the world. However, the biggest break with recent tradition is that the OnePlus 11 is not part of the lineup; There is no OnePlus 11 Pro, there is only the OnePlus 11. This completely changes what we saw in 2022 when the brand launched the OnePlus 10 Pro, but not the OnePlus 10. However, this is the successor to the OnePlus 10 Pro, name or not, and it will be OnePlus’ only flagship for the entire year 2023. This one-sided approach is, as OnePlus puts it, the company’s response to engage with consumers and return to its original mantra of disrupting the competition.
In terms of design, the OnePlus 11 doesn’t fall too far behind the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 10T. It has an almost identical 6.7-inch Gorilla Glass Victus display with 2K resolution and a variable refresh rate of 120Hz. The much-loved warning leader is back on the right side after the big uproar over his exclusion from the OnePlus 10T; you can find it opposite the volume key. OnePlus tucked its two nano-SIMs under the tray, right next to the USB-C port.
Around the back, the OnePlus 11 sports a round camera bump instead of the previous square, though the sensor placement is the same. It includes a primary 50MP lens, a 48MP ultra-wide lens and a 32MP telephoto lens. Like its predecessors, the OnePlus 11 comes in black or green – now called Eternal Green and Titan Black – and the rear panel is made of Gorilla Glass 5. All versions include an IP64 dust and water resistance rating.

Beneath the glossy exterior of the OnePlus 11 lies a lot of flagship power. It is one of the first devices to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, backed by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the base model. If you need a little more capacity, there’s also a 16GB/256GB model that we got to test. Rounding things off is a large 5,000mAh battery ready for 80W wired charging in the US or 100W wired charging in the rest of the world.
As usual with OnePlus flagships, the OnePlus 11 comes with the latest version of Android – Android 13 with Oxygen OS skin on top. But in a welcome change, the OnePlus 11 now also comes with a truly flagship update promise – four years of Android version support and five years of bimonthly security patches. This makes it among the best in the industry for long-term software support.
OnePlus might be the latest brand that hasn’t decided to downsize its packaging. The OnePlus 11 still comes with a 100W USB-A charger (yes, that’s USB-A, not a typo), a USB-A to USB-C cable, and retail versions include a basic protective case.
OnePlus made its latest flagship available for pre-order on February 7, 2023 from its site as well as at Amazon and Best Buy, with open sales starting on February 16, 2023. It may have the widest carrier support yet, promising sub-6GHz 5G connectivity ( not mmWave) at launch via the three major US networks and many of their MVNOs.

It may not be the number one feature for all users, but the alert slider is back. We had our fair share of complaints about the OnePlus 10T being removed, so it’s good to see that it was a sabbatical rather than a retirement. The Eternal Green finish is also excellent. OnePlus is no stranger to green phones, and I’m happy with how the color looks both in the hand and in the picture.
OnePlus seems to have found the right balance when it comes to waterfall displays as well. I often have issues with accidental tapping and pressing on most curved screens, but I didn’t have the same problem with the OnePlus 11. It’s easy to hold on both sides without worrying about the placement of your fingers. Additionally, the 6.7-inch screen is bright and sharp, with a smooth 120Hz variable refresh rate that drops as low as 1Hz, and I had no trouble seeing it clearly in the occasional sunlight of a Pennsylvania winter.
After a year of battery life on flagships, the OnePlus 11 starts off 2023 nicely with a very strong endurance. I found I could get almost two days of moderate use out of it, which for me is a mix of social media, light gaming and web browsing. Your results may suffer if you spend most of your time gaming, but you should be able to get through another day before you need to recharge.
If you need a charge, the OnePlus 11 is fast enough. It supports 80W wired charging in the US and 100W wired charging in the rest of the world, beating the speeds of Apple, Samsung and the rest. I found that I only needed about half an hour of 80W charging for a full battery, while my colleague Dhruv needed 25 minutes at 100W for a test device in India.

In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is no joke. The OnePlus 11 is one of our first chances to take the chip to a production device, and the results are impressive. It easily beats the OnePlus 10T, which was designed as a primary performance device with its Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. While the single-core Geekbench 5 score only showed a 12% increase over the OnePlus 10T in both standard and performance modes, the multi-core score improved by 46% in standard mode and 30% in performance mode – not too shabby.
The verified benchmark numbers only tell part of the story, but the OnePlus 11 is also impressive in everyday life. I never noticed any stuttering or lag, even when launching graphics-intensive games like Asphalt 9 or quickly switching between other apps and games. More importantly, the phone never got very hot. It did get a little warm when playing 3D games for long periods of time, but it was never uncomfortable. Our review unit came with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which OnePlus says is enough to keep up to 44 apps running in the background at any given time. I didn’t have 44 apps open at once, but I never had a problem with apps closing quickly in the background.
It’s also a relief to include software updates among the OnePlus 11’s positives. We’ve complained about a lot of massive update obligations, so four years of Android and five years of security patches helps Samsung. Oxygen OS 13 may not be as light and airy as OnePlus’ skin ever was, but there are some tweaks that improve usability. On the app side, there still aren’t many OnePlus-flavored add-ons outside of Zen Mode and the OnePlus Store, both of which you can uninstall. You can also delete other default apps like Netflix if you’re not going to stream.
One of the best tweaks I found in Oxygen OS 13 is that you can get rid of the OnePlus Shelf, a menu that puts things like Notes, Recent Contacts, Pedometer, and Spotify in one convenient place. You used to open the shelf or quick settings depending on where you swiped down on the screen, but now you can choose one or the other. Some users may prefer a shelf because of its all-in-one approach, but I’m happy to hide it.
