I’m ready for Guardians of the Galaxy like no other Marvel movie, which means I’ll be going through almost every toy made for GOTG. Funko has improved their packaging this year. Although in previous years all the boxes looked the same on the Funko Marvel POP! The vinyl line, whether it’s a comic book or a movie, isn’t the case here.
Like all other Guardians of the Galaxy POP! Vinyls, Groot comes in a box with bright space colors, clearly indicating that this is a Guardians of the Galaxy product (despite still being counted in the main line of Marvel POP Vinyls figures).
When you take it out of the box, the first thing fans will notice when they see Funko Groot next to their other Marvel Funko POP! The nice vinyl of the head is that Groot is clearly taller than the regular Funko POPs. That’s not to say he’s as big as the Funko Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, but he still looks bigger.
New Baby Groot Funko Pop Shows ‘guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2’ Moment
The Groot scale looks great when placed next to the other Funko POP Guardians of the Galaxy vinyl figures. Groot flies over the Funko Rocket Raccoon (as he should) and is slightly larger than his other GOTG teammates. Groot should be higher…? Maybe, but with a line so messed up and overrated like this, I think Funko did.
The sculpt is another great feature of the Funko Groot figure. While many Funko POP! The vinyl figures have very simple and minimal sculpting, Groth really has an amazingly rich sculpt with lots of detail.
The top of Groot’s head is covered with a variety of unusual bumps and branches, his fingers are terrifyingly sharp and pointed, and the beautiful look of the wooden layers on the torso of the Groot Funko figure is simply amazing. In terms of sculpting, Groot is one of Funko Marvel’s best works to date.
Quality control can often be a Funko collector’s worst nightmare. To my delight, QC is not an issue at all with the Funko Groot POP vinyl figure. This may be more because the eyes are the only part of Groot that is actually painted and not just colored plastic, but they are painted well anyway, with no dirt or unevenness around them. Sometimes Funko really lets me down with their quality control, but luckily that’s not the case here.

If there’s one design choice I don’t like with this Groot vinyl figure, it’s the color shade that Funko chose to surround Groot’s eyes.
I have never liked this type of finish, as it usually looks like a bad mascara, and this is no exception. From a few feet away it doesn’t matter much, but up close the black shadow really bothers me. I can try to wipe it off my own face.
Last week I received my Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Groot figure from Entertainment Earth as they are usually the first online stores to get new Funko figures. Groot is also available on Amazon.

Whether you plan to collect the entire Guardians of the Galaxy Funko team or just Rocket Raccoon and Groot, you’ll be happy to have this Groot vinyl figure in your collection.
