After two video reviews of the new Power Rangers Lightning Replica Dragon Dagger Prop Collection, it’s nice to have some time to think about the product as a whole in writing. Today we’re going to dive deep. It’s always enlightening to review a product that not only excites me, but excites all the fans. And believe me, many of you were excited, wanted to see the features of this toy, had an opinion on the features, and were upset that I didn’t own a 2010 Dragon Dagger light saber model or a Japanese metal inspired import.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dragon Dagger & Mini Sticker Book Set
Starting with the packaging, this product is very attractive. The graphics and design options are great. I personally don’t dig it, it’s the voice Hasbro put into it. In the Bandai Legacy pack there is “The Story of the Green Ranger” which is quite detailed (for the uninitiated I thought they had to rip out the layers) but. The Hasbro version has this classic sound that just doesn’t work for me. The wording on the box will sound 10 years old and I’m a “give me the facts, green news” kind of guy. Example out of the box:
A pipe knife? Flute Sword? No, of course not. It’s the Green Ranger Dragon Zord playing the iconic Dragon Zord phone… without moving your mouth!
While the Bandai Legacy Proplica is 15+ (the usual age recommendation for the collection), Hasbro lists it as 18+. But believe me, there is nothing going on here that would justify an 18+ recommendation. This toy falls somewhere between a high-end toy and a prop replica. All materials are plastic and very light. That’s a good thing! I comfortably let my 5 year old daughter run with it, unlike the Bandai Proplica version which is cast and very heavy.
Moving on to the toy itself and its features – this is where most fans were most concerned about what I missed in my video review. I’ll be the first to say that I painstakingly got rid of it by not flipping the switch. This toy lights up and that’s really cool! Freedom in a toy is appreciated when what it does is neat. But if it’s full of gimmicks, I don’t know what we’re all working on.
Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin’ Green Ranger Toy Review
The size and shape of this product is great. The blade has some battle varnish wear which is nice. Not necessarily, but differently. This distinguishes it from the Vintage and Legacy versions. All three have one thing in common – the blade is a soft gray plastic and I think this is a safety standard. But for me as a fan, it’s a neat thing that ties the three together. What I don’t like is Hasbro’s decision to make all colors wearable. The “golden” brown plastic they chose is pretty cool. I found myself missing the metallic gold and shine on this Dragon Dagger. But when the switch is on, it creates a really cool light and electronic sound effect. It also looks great on a plastic stand (super tiny and cheap). The stand is a piece that some Bandai collectors wanted to come with their Legacy Dragon.
Between Bandai’s Legacy Dragon Dagger and Hasbro’s New Lightning Dagger- Bandai blows away Hasbro. It’s clean, clear and loud, and I like how the flute mouthpiece suppresses the Bandai. Sound quality on Hasbro is ok but not turbo. There’s also been a fan perception that the gray “mouthpiece” is something you can bang on to make a noise, but that’s not the case. It is made of plastic. It doesn’t blink.
You can press three buttons to hear different sounds: the iconic “Dragon Zord summon” sound, the “Dragon Zord Command” sound, and a sound clip.
The theme song. Press this little gold button to hear the “mixy theme song”. No function other than “Well, we can put more sound clips in here….so….” kind of trick.

) is a “spin the bottom of the sword” mode to “make your own music”. In fact, I wished I had never discovered this situation. The sword makes several honking sounds, and according to some fans online, if you press the buttons in a certain order, you can make the sound that the Japanese version of the Dragon Dagger used to make in the original version.
That sounds like a great feature – let’s not hide it as a weird easter egg, shall we?! The honky music scene was really awkward and juvenile. It’s something that makes fans gasp and say, “Hey, deal with it, it’s a CHILD’S TOY!”
Well… it says 18+ on the cover. And I’ve been in a lot of stores that have movie boxes and stuff that say 18+ and not one has played that little synth trumpet that sounds like a Power Rangers sword.
Overall, this toy is great. You know you want it and maybe you should buy it. What?

Size that is Bandai’s Legacy Sword? No way. Does it replace the wonderful sweetness that is Original Vine? No, I legitimately cried when I got mine. As a prop copy, this item is mediocre. But for a high-quality display or toy to believe? It is very powerful! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I would collect every Dragon Dagger that was under my radar if they were available and I could afford them. There is no question. 100%
