There’s something about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 that makes me feel stronger and more productive when I use it. Maybe it’s the new taskbar that makes multitasking easier, or the ability to launch apps side-by-side and drag and drop content between windows.
I also appreciate the huge 7.6-inch main screen, which is now brighter with a thinner bezel – and more apps are optimized for the large screen of the Z Fold 4. Plus, the 6.2-inch protective screen is wider and easier to use. Other improvements include a 50-megapixel main camera that matches the Galaxy S22 series – and holds its own in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 vs iPhone 13 Pro Max showdown.
Although the case is thinner and the device a little lighter, it’s still a very thick and heavy phone that makes me feel a little less powerful after a while.
And then there’s the price. At $1,799, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 remains the most expensive flagship phone by far. Hence, this best foldable phone is truly the best for those who are willing to pay a high price for a phone and tablet in one.

The first thing I noticed about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is that the front screen is not as crumpled. And that’s because it has a wider aspect ratio than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This makes the 6.2-inch panel easier to use with one hand, and frankly, it’ll make it easier for you to use the protective screen for things like checking notifications and responding quickly we message.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Updates: All Software Releases In One Place
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is less bulky and heavy this time, though not by much. This is partly because Samsung made the hinge thinner.

And I’m sorry to report that the crack on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is still very visible. It’s not enough to spoil the fun if you’re in the middle of a show or movie, but it can definitely distract you.
In our lab tests, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 achieved impressive numbers in all areas, especially brightness. The main panel registered a maximum of 905 nits, which is significantly higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (733). The Galaxy S22 Ultra (1,359 nits) and iPhone 13 Pro Max (1,038) are both brighter, but it’s still a big improvement.

The 6.2-inch protective screen also has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate (down to 48Hz), but is now 3mm wider, meaning you don’t have to feel claustrophobic when using this device with the screen closed. I had no problem writing on the front, which, if you think about it, could save you some battery life if you’re not using the larger screen that much.
One of the biggest improvements to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the software, thanks to the new Android 12L operating system. This particular version of Android is designed for large-screen devices, including foldable phones.
For easier multitasking, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a new task bar at the bottom of the screen that automatically displays your recent apps. You can decide which favorites appear on the taskbar by simply rearranging the main homebar on the home screen.
As before, you can run up to three apps simultaneously on the large 7.6-inch screen, though I usually stick to just two. I love that I can easily drag an app from the taskbar to open it and place it on the left or right side of the screen. Alternatively, you can simply swipe up with two fingers when you’re in an app to place another app next to it (although you’ll need to enable this gesture).

One of the benefits of being able to open apps side-by-side is drag and drop. So, for example, I can drag an image from the Gallery app into a sent message in Gmail. In addition, Chrome now supports drag and drop for things like images and links.
Flex mode has also improved with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which puts app content on top and controls down when you fold the screen in half. Samsung is working with several developers to make better use of the foldable screen, including Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
The Galaxy Z Fold series is no longer behind the Galaxy S series when it comes to cameras. There’s a 10MP selfie camera on the front of the phone and a 4MP low-resolution sensor on the right side of the 7.6-inch display.
