The downside is that the Galaxy M31’s design and some of its specifications may not match up with some of the best-looking and powerful smartphones that will soon debut in this segment.

As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a familiar design. It is very similar to the Galaxy M30s as it has a plastic unibody back with a fingerprint sensor on the back and a camera module with a square notch on the top left. While the plastic material helps keep the phone light (despite its large battery), it doesn’t feel as good compared to glass phones like the Redmi Note 8 Pro (Review).
The front of the Samsung Galaxy M31 is also not familiar, as you will be greeted by a 6.4-inch Full HD + (2,340 x 1,080) Super AMOLED Infinity-U screen, just like its predecessors. The screen has a U-shaped speaker at the top that houses the selfie camera and a very wide bezel.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 is a sleek phone and feels heavy in the hand, so holding it is tiring at times. This Smartphone is available in Blue, Black and Red. Due to its rear panel, the Galaxy M31 is a fingerprint and smudge magnet, something that was particularly noticeable in the black version we received for review. Also, the back panel attracts scratches if you put it on a table or in a bag with a few keys.
The size and power buttons are placed on the top right side of the frame, not always easy to reach with one hand. The bottom of the frame contains the Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and a single speaker grille. The left side of the card has a card slot that can accommodate two SIM nano and microSD cards.

Samsung makes impressive speakers, so it’s understandable that the company doesn’t feel the need to make any changes here. The 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display looks great with bright, vivid colors and great viewing angles. The display is also very bright, so you should have no problem reading the screen in direct sunlight. The FHD+ screen is sharp and offers sharp images in 1080p resolution. With Widevine L1, the Galaxy M31 can stream Netflix and Amazon Prime video content in full HD.
The biggest upgrade on the Galaxy M31 is the camera. The smartphone has a 64MP camera at the back as opposed to the 48MP camera system on the Galaxy M30s. The new features include a high-resolution 64MP f/1.8 Samsung GW1 main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth camera, and a 5MP macro lens. The extended settings are more versatile, allowing users more shooting options.
The Galaxy M31’s main camera takes great photos during the day. With the visual optimizer, the camera uses a lot of processing software to enhance the colors, which you can choose from than the standard tones. So if you’re photographing flowers, for example, the greens will look green and the purples may turn red. The photos are warm, which means you won’t be able to capture natural white tones. Overall, I found the photos taken during the day to be lacking in contrast and it is stronger than the Redmi Note 8 Pro in this regard.
The main camera can focus quickly on subjects during the day, but becomes iffy at sunset. By default, the main camera shoots in 16MP and uses pixel binning to produce sharp and sharp photos. You can manually change the aspect ratio to 3:4 64MP to take super photos. However, 64MP photos will look dark, lack HDR support, and should only be used during the day if you want to capture landscapes to edit later.

Finally, we have a 5MP macro camera that can get as close as 3cm to the subject. Also, perfect for daytime use, the macro camera lets you take creative close-up shots. Macros can be seen clearly and comprehensively while the topic is still there. Colors, however, seem muted and washed out compared to the typical bokeh that can be captured using the main camera.
Galaxy M31 is really good for taking pictures. The front and rear cameras can record UHD video. The main camera also supports Super Steady mode, which does a great job of keeping images jitter-free when shooting handheld.
