Update Galaxy M31 Buy Review – Samsung launched its new M-series phones in Nepal a few weeks ago. Of these, the Samsung M31 comes as an upgrade to the Samsung M30 and M30s.
I have been using this device for more than three weeks and I have already given my first opinion about this device. Check it out if you want. This is a continuation of my first impressions and a detailed review of the M31.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 uses a plastic body and has a glossy finish on the back. On the front is an AMOLED display with a water-drop notch.

Plastic is made in the same way as glass but it is very different.
This particular review unit received scratches on the back panel during my use, but upon closer inspection it was noticeable. Therefore, I recommend you to use a case.
The rear has a quad-camera setup with a fingerprint-shaped oval sensor with a rectangular camera module. The edges are folded into the frame and the edges are also curved.
On the front, the side bezels are thinner but the chin is prominent. On the right is the button if there is a tray for two SIM and micro-SD.

At the bottom we find a headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, a mic and a speaker. If there is another mic on top. Also, the ears are well hidden at the top of the notch.
However, the plastic build does not look premium. Feels strong and solid. But it is easily scratched. Therefore, I would like a glass back like the one we see on the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Ergonomically, I like the fit in the hand. It is not slippery and I can use it on my hands. But, using it with one hand is not easy at all. You have to get used to it.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 has a 6.4-inch 1080×2340 (FHD+) AMOLED display. It is a 60Hz panel with deep blacks and impressive color reproduction.
Honest Samsung Galaxy M31 Review
From my first impression, everything is the same. The colors are vivid and the contrast ratio is high. Perfect for watching YouTube, Netflix and playing games.
The display is impressive in its use of media. However, it is not very bright in strong sunlight. If you want to take pictures or watch content in strong sunlight, you will have a hard time.
The display is always as usual. You can customize it to some degree. You can also choose different colors for the display. If you want a more natural sound, you can choose the Natural mode, or you can choose the Vivid mode. You can also adjust the temperature and make the color temperature brighter or warmer.
To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of high megapixel sensors. I mean, it’s nice and it’s designed to capture high detail, but I don’t really find it useful. After all, only smartphone photos end up on social media.

So, with the Samsung Galaxy M31 we get a large 64MP sensor with a pixel size of 0.8μm. It is a large sensor that helps the sensor to get more light. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy M31 takes decent photos. But, in typical Samsung fashion, it still retains the same camera processing as other mid-range Samsung phones.
The 16MP image selected in the Samsung Galaxy M31 comes out very sharp, and the image processing favors higher contrast and saturation. The white balance he chooses is not necessarily the most accurate, and he chooses one that can bring out the colors in the scene.
The lowest ISO for photography is 20, so its HDR is quite impressive. Able to retain detail in dark areas without overpowering bright areas. I like the brightness on the binned image, it’s a bit brighter than normal but it helps make the image stand out.
Moving on to the 64MP image, it obviously has more detail. If you look at the image side by side, you can see that there is more detail in the 48MP image. The image looks sharper than the 16MP shuttered images, although the colors are washed out and more natural. And, it doesn’t make the picture as sharp as the 16MP picture. Also, the ISO of the 48MP image is lower than 40 and I think this is to compensate for the lack of HDR.

To be honest, I prefer the 16MP shuttered image when it’s in focus, with great color and contrast. Additionally, the 16MP imager has a longer dynamic range and better transmission.
But, it will depend on personal preference and if you want to change anything in post-processing, you can use 48MP image. However, most of us won’t bother with that, so it’s better to stick with the 16MP images saved most of the time.
So what about Night Mode? Yes, that’s good. The first thing you should notice is that normal photos taken in bright conditions lack good detail and are noisy. If it is taken late at night, the picture may also look out of focus. But Night Mode helps in this case. This reduces noise and makes the image more attractive.
The pictures taken in night mode are sharp and the display is better. However, the bottom image of the M31 is not very good. However, I recommend using the night mode the most. Click to view Ultrawide Angle Goodness slideshow.

For the ultrawide camera, the M31’s 8MP sensor is the same as the M30’s 8MP sensor. While I prefer the 12MP sensor, the 8MP sensor is good enough for daylight hours. Ultrawide images maintain the same color profile as large sensors with high contrast.
The picture looks pretty sharp but you will notice a little noise around the edges. Also, it doesn’t perform as well as a large sensor in low light. But it happens with all phones.
Now, if I talk about cartoons, I am surprised. Well, I don’t have many samples because I haven’t met many people because of the epidemic. But I have been very impressed with what I have seen so far.
The depth effect does not appear artificial and this is my main focus in portrait photography. Moving on, the edge detection is good but of course not perfect. He cut part of my hair but I look good with glasses. I am very happy with the results.

Last but not least, it also has a 5MP macro sensor and it’s good. You get a 2MP macro sensor on most phones in this range apart from the M31, so that extra detail can make for more attractive photos. But the color profile is different from the big sensor, it is dull and it doesn’t flash. Check out the sample below!
Now for the front camera, I like it. The 32MP sensor takes decent photos with good contrast. Detail is also good and HDR works well. Your selfie won’t look bad even if there is a lot of light in the background.
Now, the Live Focus selfies aren’t very good. Edge detection is not good enough. My hair has been a problem for me. And, the blurring effect looks artificial too. But I like how HDR allows me to control the highlights.
Samsung M31 supports 4k videos but there is no option for 60fps even in 1080p. 4k video is crisp with good detail but at 4k you lose digital stabilization which results in shaky video. When you get to 1080p, the resolution improves but you lose a little detail in 1080p.

Digital stabilization isn’t that impressive, you’ll see variations in how you try to zoom in on the image. Now, it has a very stable 1080p feature that actually takes video from the wide-angle camera and crops it a little bit to give you a longer video.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 has the same chipset as the Samsung M30s; Exynos 9611. But there is a bigger 8GB RAM option because it comes in two configurations: 6/128GB and 8/128GB.
The Exynos 9611 is a decent chipset, but as I said in my first review, it’s not the best performer for the price. It is based on the 10nm process and is powered by an octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A73 and 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.
As my first impression, I benchmarked and played more games to test its real performance. First, let’s look at the benchmarks.

Let’s start with the Geekbench CPU benchmark. The Exynos 9611 in the M31 performs well with a unique score of 347 and a score of 1288. We compared it to the Snapdragon 720G (Redmi Note 9 Pro), Snapdragon 665 (Realme 5i), and Snapdragon 675 (Redmi). Note 7 Pro).
According to this benchmark, the Exynos 9611 in the Samsung M31 is between the Snapdragon 665 and 675 in terms of performance. However, the Redmi Note 9 Pro goes a step further.
