It just so happens to be like a tale of two worlds. First of all, the Samsung Galaxy F62 comes with a flagship (albeit older) processor, giving it a solid foundation to build on. At the same time, all things considered, it still looks like a normal smartphone. While this is partly due to the fatigue of seeing so many smartphones every year, the latest part of the blame lies with the OnePlus Nord; a smartphone that single-handedly revived the nearly dead smartphone segment.

See, before the Nord (then Google Pixel 4a) arrived, the Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 price range for smartphones in India was a dead rubber. It was inflexible. people preferred to either spend less and be happy with around Rs 15,000 or spend more than Rs 30,000 and opt for devices like discounted older generation iPhones, OnePlus phones and a few sub-flag Samsung phones. .

The latter’s Samsung Galaxy F62 comes at a hefty price tag, with the 6GB RAM variant priced at just Rs 23,999. Its main selling point is the massive 7,000 mAh battery coupled with the Samsung Exynos 9825 processor, which is also featured in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 range of smartphones. It’s a processor that’s already two years old, but it’s still a flagship chip.

So the question is, does Samsung’s choppy pricing really work? Does the Samsung Galaxy F62 look like a cohesive smartphone that makes sense as a package? Is it something you would like to use and display? Here’s all that and more in our Samsung Galaxy F62 review.

In tech parlance, a two-year aging processor is roughly the equivalent of a 16-year-old human. It’s really not too much of a guess. two years ago you wouldn’t have called out a developer’s boss if they’d ignored today’s all-important dark mode. Either way, it’s been two years since the Samsung Exynos 9825 SoC was brand new and cutting edge. The good thing though is that after two years it still holds up well, at least for a week.

We’ve ignored typical benchmark scores for this one, as benchmark scores are known to be far from an actual representation of a device’s actual performance. But it’s really in the latter that the Samsung Galaxy F62 really impressed us. Even with Samsung’s considerably heavy OneUI 3.1 on top of Android 11, noticeable and irritating stutters weren’t as frequent as expected. Most everyday tasks load as expected, and even the 6GB RAM version we had didn’t bother us too much. Yes, Instagram froze and reloaded too many times each time to save background memory and keep the phone relatively smooth overall, just like Microsoft Office loading PDF files halfway through the page, but those are quirks you can also found in more expensive phones.

Gaming on the Samsung Galaxy F62 was also acceptable, but not entirely stress-free. Call of Duty. Mobile, for example, would freeze and stutter a few times if I left the game mid-game to answer an emergency call and came back to it. Even then, it wasn’t quite as silky smooth as you’d expect from a flagship performance chip. That said, it produces consistent frame rates, meaning you can legitimately have hour-long gaming marathons on this phone. Fair warning though, it shows signs of a significant decline in the near future.

What didn’t appeal to me about the Samsung Galaxy F62 was the idea of using a now older generation processor. At a time when more and more phones in the premium and mid-premium segment are equipping their devices with 5G modems in anticipation of the near future, the Galaxy F62 offers you only 4G. That means you’ll need to upgrade your phone in about a year or two if you want the new connectivity standard on the way. An older chipset also reduces the device’s longevity in terms of receiving updates, so all things considered, know that you’re making a very sound short-term investment with the Galaxy F62.

This is where the Samsung Galaxy F62 earns all its money. If you’re worried about the older processor, its slight signs of fatigue, the lack of 5G and issues with software updates, the 7000 mAh battery is the answer. This battery mammoth gets quite a bit of bang for the buck, where after five hours of live streaming of Ravi Ashwin’s delicious century against Joe Root’s England, I still had more than 50% power left after a full charge. This combined with a constant barrage of emails, work messages and background calls is quite impressive.

If you have a heavy call load and a lot of screen time, the Samsung Galaxy F62 makes a lot of sense. The 25W fast charger can charge the battery in just one hour and 45 minutes, a 50% charge comes in about 50 minutes, and a 15 minute charge leaves you with about 18% battery. This, FYI, is enough for two hours of uninterrupted HD live streaming, not bad at all. If you don’t need unbridled performance and don’t consider yourself a power user, the Samsung Galaxy F62’s battery life may justify why you want this phone.

The overall camera performance of the Samsung Galaxy F62 is a bit too close to the Samsung Galaxy M51 as it has the exact same configuration. In summary, however, the main camera is quite fast and provides an acceptable level of detail and overall fidelity. Colors are boosted a bit in terms of saturation, but not something you’d hate. However, I found the macro camera quite unusable. it produced extremely noisy photos or didn’t focus completely. In terms of video performance, the Samsung Galaxy F62 does the least you’d expect, but it can record 4K video at 30fps. However, it does heat up the phone a bit.

The Samsung Galaxy F62 also uses the same 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED+ display panel as the Galaxy M51, which is a good thing. Colors are clear and crisp, black levels are excellent, contrast levels are good, sunlight readability is acceptable, low-light viewing is pleasant, and viewing angles are also excellent. There are no real issues with this display and it is one of the most reliable smartphone displays on the market. However, you’re missing out on the faster refresh rate panel that most competitors on either side of its pricing offer today. Again, this is one of those factors that would be good for now, but wouldn’t be good to miss as the months go by.

In addition to the fact that the Samsung Galaxy F62 is a magnet for fingerprints and smudges; Don’t buy it green if you decide to buy it. In fact, just stick to the black version, where the soft longitudinal half-stripe pattern is sleek and chic. With the green version, Samsung uses a shiny steel base color on its ‘3D glass’ polycarbonate back panel, and the resulting effect is quite tacky.

Other than that, though, the Galaxy F62 feels solid enough. It feels like it’s built to last, and the 7,000mAh battery gives the phone a reassuring touch of understandable weight. It’s a little heavy at first, but you get used to it very quickly. Button ergonomics are acceptable considering the phone’s size, but there’s no denying that those with smaller palms will undeniably find it difficult to use. this
