Update Galaxy 12 Phone Price Review – Samsung has given its budget-friendly range a solid boost with the Galaxy A12, adding a larger display, better camera and a comfortable textured finish. A few corners had to be cut in the power department, but this is one of the best $200 phones on the market

Samsung’s Galaxy A12 budget smartphone isn’t just an iterative update to the Galaxy A11 — a bigger battery, another camera, and more across the board. Even value hunters will appreciate that Samsung has managed to keep its sub-$200 price tag.How cool is this new upgrade? Find out in our Samsung Galaxy A12 review

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Full Specifications, Price, Release Date & Review

Samsung introduced its Galaxy A12 in November 2020 as the direct successor to the Galaxy A11, before bringing it to the US in April 2021. It was replaced by the Galaxy A13 series.

Starting with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the Galaxy A12 offers a total of six different configurations to fit as one of the best cheap Samsung phones. However, there are currently only three available in the United States (listed above). Whichever way you go, you’ll also get four color options – red, blue, black and white.

Our Samsung Galaxy A12 came with Android 10 on board, although the Android 11 update with Samsung One UI 3.1 is available via OTA. It also ran the July 1, 2021 Android security patch during testing It should receive two years of software updates and four years of security patches, which should carry the Galaxy A12 through late 2024 or early 2025. Our unit hasn’t received Android 12 yet, but it should be on its way before long.

Once you get past the software, you can find the MediaTek Helio P35 SoC powering Samsung’s entry-level device. RAM and storage options are at 6GB and 128GB respectively, and you can go even further with a microSD slot. A 5,000 mAh battery and a 6.5-inch HD+ panel tie everything together, and the display is complete with an Infinity-V notch. In India, there is a variant that swaps the Helio P35 for Samsung’s own Exynos 850 chipset.

Samsung has left the wired earbuds out of the packaging this time around, though it does provide a charging block and USB-C cable. If you need some help getting it off the ground, you’ll also find a SIM ejector tool and a basic startup guide. Samsung’s Galaxy A12 is also available on Verizon, UScellular, and AT&T.

The budget-friendly phones look almost determined to lend an air of quality to the reflective backs and fingerprint magnets. Thankfully, Samsung’s Galaxy A12 bucks the trend with a matte finish that feels soft in the hand instead. I also appreciate the raised diagonal ridges, as they add a little extra grip to the overall design.

The large 6.5-inch display means a good grip is essential if you expect to drop the case. Even though that display sticks to HD+ resolution, it’s still big enough and clear enough to catch your latest show. We always appreciate a headphone jack, and wired headphones are a great way to enjoy sound on the Galaxy A12 as opposed to down-firing mono speakers.

In the past, Samsung also decided to ditch the Galaxy A11’s rear-mounted fingerprint reader. Instead, the Galaxy A12 uses a side-mounted option, which is quick, easy to use and cleans up the overall look of the device.

A side-mounted fingerprint reader and matte finish give the Galaxy A12 a clean look and premium feel.

Adorning the rear panel is Samsung’s camera array, capped by a 48MP main shooter, which does more than enough for a budget camera phone (check later in this review for a sample). You can also tap on the macro and ultrawide cameras for added flexibility. The Camera app is a breeze to navigate, although it can take a moment or two to find the macro button because it’s hidden away in multiple tabs.

Samsung’s One UI is one of the best Android skins on the market right now, and it’s as good as ever on the Galaxy A12. Specifically, the Samsung Free app is similar to Google’s search feed but instead of just providing news with a kick, Samsung Free brings together Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Podcasts, Tabla News and Instant Play. Best of all, you don’t have to spend a dime for it

The Galaxy A12 is also a battery wizard, at least when it comes to charging. Between light gaming, answering emails and browsing social media, I had no problem powering through a good two days of use.

Samsung Free Apps might be a nice addition to the overall package, but Samsung didn’t stop there when deciding how much to add to Android. Unfortunately, the Galaxy A12 has a bunch of extra apps that often take up space. It comes with a full suite of Google apps as well as Samsung apps which eliminates a lot of redundancy. There are also Microsoft options like Office, OneDrive, and Outlook You’ll also go to the Samsung, Galaxy Store, and Galaxy Store – how many people really need two Samsung Store and one Play Store option?

The good news is that you can at least install Microsoft-based patches, but that won’t help reverse the Galaxy A12’s trend. The MediaTek Helio P35 isn’t always up to the task of powering the 6.5-inch display, and hopping between apps makes things even slower. Limited RAM and storage doesn’t help, so you might want to look at the 4GB RAM/64GB storage version if you can afford it.

Three different app suites, two different app stores and one Samsung store are just too many

Although Samsung has packed a solid main lens into the Galaxy A12, the fun peripheral options aren’t always in great shape. The macro lens only offers 2MP, and it took a lot of effort to get the sample image below well. You won’t find a dedicated night mode on the Galaxy A12 either, so you’ll probably have to put up with a bit more trial and error than during the day.

While all phones add a bit of magic after pressing the shutter button, the end result of photos taken on the Galaxy A12 was better than what the camera app showed. For example, when I pressed the shutter button, the low-light image below looked noticeably darker, and in comparison neither image looked as clean as the one you see. Most of the time, it looks pretty amazing, but it makes it a bit difficult to judge your shots. Portrait mode was also not good at edge detection, you can see my hair sample.

Samsung may have packed a solid battery into its Galaxy A12, but the 15W charging speed is woefully underpowered, even for such a cheap phone. I was able to go from 3% to 23% charge after 30%, with a full charge taking over two hours.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is a solid upgrade over the Galaxy A11 in almost every way. What this budget-friendly phone brings to the table is a decent 48MP main camera, excellent battery life, and Samsung’s crisp and attractive One UI software. Unfortunately, peripheral cameras lack punch, and lag performance can be disappointing, but these trade-offs are to be expected at this price point.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is an upgrade over the Galaxy A11 in almost every way and is perfect for first-time smartphone buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Review With Pros And Cons

It’s been a while since the Galaxy A12 was launched, and Samsung’s budget phone has been replaced a few times. There’s the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G ($199.99 at Samsung), which replaces the Galaxy S23-inspired design with a more premium feel in the hand. The new model is also set for more software updates due to its 2023 launch date You can also check out the Motorola Moto G5G ($199 at Amazon), which occupies the same spot in Motorola’s lineup. It sports the same plastic design and 15W wired charging, though it can’t keep up with Samsung’s update commitment. Another option to consider is the OnePlus Nord N300 ($228 at OnePlus). The most affordable Nerd is all about simplicity, with just two rear cameras and a clean black design it’s at the top of the pack in terms of wired charging speeds

The Galaxy A12 stepped up with an extra camera, a bigger battery and a new textured back panel. Grab yours and see what Samsung can do with its Infinity-V display Trusted Reviews
