“It has a stupid name and it was created by Tesco.” When the two major criticisms of a £129 tablet are dismissed as just rude, you know you’ve got something special on your hands. Hudl 2 is undoubtedly something.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s surprise hit Hudl (750,000 units sold), the Hudl 2 is £10 more expensive than originally planned, but offers a bigger, better screen, better graphics and a more powerful processor. In short, the best Android tablet available and perfect for families and first-time users.

Oneplus 10 Pro Review: Slick Performance Costing Less Than Rivals

Like the original Hudl, the Hudl 2 has a soft plastic back that feels good in the hand, but is a bit of a smudge-picking demon. There are buttons around the edge for power and volume (which are too small for easy access), as well as a Micro USB point for charging and downloading media and a MicroSD slot for memory expansion (inexplicably on the left without the screen).

The display has been increased to 8.3 inches and is now full HD with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. It’s long as far as the display goes, but it’s an improvement over the first Hudl (with a limited 1400 x 900). resolution) and surfing the web and watching videos is both scary and fun. However, we would have liked a little more light, and you don’t use it much in direct sunlight – it’s an indoor pet.

The rest of the tech is above what you’d expect for the price, not bad speakers in the glass back of the device (although that means it runs a little better when it’s on the back) and a solid 1.8GHz processor with Android KitKat 4.4 .2 unlimited. There’s only 16GB of storage, which means this isn’t going to be a small, content-packed mobile device. All in all, it’s a great little tablet. It can’t move more than half a dozen apps without slowing down, but in standalone games it runs fine.

However, the biggest attraction of the Hudl 2 is the integrated apps – or rather, one app: ‘Start’. Of all the apps added to smartphones and tablets, it’s rubbish, but Tesco has done less tech-savvy users a favor here: Start offers clear instructions on how to use the tablet for everything from shopping to gaming and viewing. other security measures are ways to securely share Hudl between family members.

Google’s Android has always been superior to Apple’s iOS in providing such control, and with the Hudl 2’s affordable price and solid build, it’s a natural fit for parents looking to entertain kids. The Hudl Book 2 makes this task easy; show users how to create multiple profiles and set limits on everything from internet access to the amount of time they can play. It all seems patently pointless and useless to anyone without kids, but it makes a real difference to parents – especially since tablets or similar devices at the same price often don’t have this kind of support.

Of course, there’s a lot of rubbish supported by Tesco on the Hudl 2, with a lot of Blinkbox apps for music and games (although thankfully this can be removed) and a folder of content closely related to many of Tesco’s services; from photo printing to online banking. This will annoy some people (especially the ‘Tesco Hub’ page which has instructions on how to use Clubcard points etc) but shouldn’t be a reason to buy the device as they can all be hidden. And anyone who wants to get rid of the ‘T’ that seems to be stuck in the top left corner of the home screen can simply install Google’s original launcher from the Play Store.

However, there are some areas where the Hudl 2 is a bet of inferiority: the five-megapixel rear camera is sloppy, and the battery life does not exceed six hours (sometimes it jumps suddenly for no reason). These things can be difficult if the Hudl 2 is used while traveling or outside does not cut focus on the device. It’s affordable, well-built and a great tablet for the home, where it can be used for games, videos, Facebook, finding recipes and, yes, even shopping for the odd Tesco store. We can’t be as mad at them as I thought.

The Pixel 7 offers a sharp and impressive display across the board with an impressive camera setup, making it great value for its asking price.

The Pixel 7 has been out for a few months now and has managed to stand out as one of the best options out there, especially with the amount of features available.

Even with 2023’s big Android devices on the shelves, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Xiaomi 13, the Pixel 7 still manages to offer a number of impressive features.

However, things went awry with the launch of the Pixel 7a, which is essentially a slightly smaller version of the Pixel 7 packed with all the same specs, 90Hz refresh rate and Tensor G2 chipset at a much cheaper price. This makes the flagship very difficult.

Just as a high-performance camera is the signature of the Pixel series, so is the eye-catching screen. This generation has seen a big change from its predecessor, with a shiny metal camera now instead of the featureless black bar of the Pixel 6. The shiny back panel looks and feels very good, it comes in three attractive colors (Obsidian), lemongrass, snow) is very pleasant to the touch.

But even though it looks good, I was annoyed by the camera bar most of the time, especially because of the edges. While many other phones have a smooth bump on the camera module (which is well demonstrated by the Oppo Find X5 Pro), this one has corners that are very geometric to very sharp.

It makes it easy to hold, it collects a bit of dust in the corners that messes up the look, and I found that it can slip into the jeans pockets when you take out your phone. So while the Pixel 7 looks great, I think it could do with a little more thought in its performance.

A little more grunt along those lines when placing the power and volume buttons. On most phones you’ll find these near the top and bottom respectively, but this phone flips the system and may take some getting used to; in a few weeks of use, you may accidentally pop your ears in the air while trying to turn off the screen, or turn off the video while trying to hear what someone is saying.

You won’t find any “extras” related to the hardware either; there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, no SD card tray and no dual-SIM support (although there is eSIM support). None of this is too surprising since the Pixels stopped doing this a while ago.

Fortunately, the Pixel 7 is a powerful device. It’s IP68, so it’s well protected against water and dust, and it’s also made of Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back, so it won’t scratch or break.

The AMOLED screen is 6.3 inches and is therefore slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy S22 (at 6.1 inches) and the iPhone 14 (6.1 inches), but it is easy to use with one hand and the screen is still large enough to watch videos and use your apps. as normal.

The resolution of 1080 × 2400 is sharp for this size, the contrast is very strong thanks to its AMOLED technology and it is bright enough to read on the floor.
