It’s a recent addition to my sewing planner, just like the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil I got over the holidays. While I love the feel and process of working on paper, I find myself loving working in digital format more and more, and this is enhanced by the precision of the Apple Pencil. Since I’m fairly new to digital art, I started looking for my favorite apps to draw custom croquis on my Body Model to create my digital wardrobe plans.

Best Web Design Software Tools Of 2023 (in 6 Categories)
There are many free digital art apps on the market that are perfect for use with Model My Body for planning digital sewing and fashion designs. Most “free” apps have in-app purchases that unlock additional features, but I don’t think any of these require a purchase to make the app “worth” using. While I have purchased many in-app items that I know I will use a lot in the future, I was able to design and plan without purchasing any of these add-ons.
Adobe Draw is a free drawing tool for iPad with the expected Adobe quality. It creates very sharp, clear images and can create a bold, eye-catching design.
The Adobe Draw app has a very simple design and few brush options. It’s easy to use and creates a very clean design.
Advantages: Adobe Draw is very easy to work with and very clean visually, allowing you to focus on the drawing, not the application. It can import and export many types of images and works with vector graphics, so it has very sharp quality even when zoomed in very close. This is great for working with My Body images that have more than 4 forms on a page. Layers are great for adding depth to textures or playing with mixing and matching outfits.

Cons: There are very few types of brushes available. I’ve really only found two that I enjoy using in this app, and the resulting images will all have the same inky look.
Adobe Sketch is another free iPad app and can be seen as a companion to Adobe Draw. This process creates less sharp images in a “painting” style.
Adobe Sketch is very similar to Adobe Draw, but it has tools like pencils and watercolors to create a very soft image.
Advantages: This app has the same advantages as the Adobe Draw program, except for the clarity of the drawings. Because this is not a vector system, quality is not proportional to rounding. On the other hand, I think this app had the best “pencil” brush of any I’ve tried – the pressure response of the Apple Pencil was fantastic. I really enjoyed using it: it was very interesting to import an image, add a drawing layer and start drawing.

Cons: Similar to Adobe Draw, this app has very few brush types available, and again I found myself using two or three of them to create my Body Art sketches. I find that I enjoy drawing in Adobe Sketch with pencil more, but I enjoy the Adobe Draw app more for coloring designs.
Update: As of the time of publishing this update, Adobe has launched a new graphics application, Adobe Fresco. This new app combines Adobe Draw and Adobe Fresco, and Dr. T has written a step-by-step Adobe Fresco tutorial to cover the basics.
SketchBook is a fun app that I loved for coloring. It’s a great all-in-one app that offers a lot of functionality.
SketchBook provides easy access to all drawing tools and program options in easy-to-use side panels.
The 5 Best Ipad Drawing Apps Of 2022
Pros: SketchBook has great pens/pencils/brushes for a great drawing experience. Everything is on the screen, but it doesn’t feel crowded or intimidating. The app is easy to use and doesn’t feel like the graphics are too confusing. While this isn’t a vector drawing program, the pixelation isn’t as bad as other apps, so it’s a little neat to zoom in on fine detail work.
Cons: This app feels second nature to me. It’s almost as good as Procreate in terms of color schemes, but I felt like I had more options in Procreate. It’s not as clean as the Adobe apps or Concepts in terms of visual clarity (because it doesn’t use vectors). The gallery view isn’t as good as the Sketches app or Nobility for layout. It was a situation where I felt that everything was fine, but nothing was pleasant. I love this app, but when I think I want to draw, it’s not the one I turn to first.

Concepts is a vector graphics app marketed as more of a product than an art app. It has a lot of slick features that make it perfect for drawing ideas using My Body Image as a starting template, and it definitely gives a “professional” feel to the workflow.

The Concepts app feels very different from many other art apps on the market. It has many useful tools for architects and designers who do design as part of their work.
One of my favorite things is custom palettes – they allow me to combine colors from my wardrobe plans in one place and have them all easily accessible while I’m painting.
Pros: The vector graphics in this app make the images very sharp at any zoom level and the canvas is infinite. Common color palettes make it easy to keep your wardrobe colors close. This app has my second favorite “pencil” brush, and yet it is very close to the Adobe Sketch program. And even then, the clarity of vector graphics might win me over in Concepts, so I think Concepts gets a point here. I also like the rubber in this system. It might sound strange to like the eraser, but some apps were incredibly slow to erase, even set to 100% opacity. I mean, I want the feel of the paper, but not if it means erasing mistakes in ten minutes. I liked the opacity setting of the fader – just fade out the light at low opacity and a single swipe to 100%. Awesome. Another thing I love about Tips is the pressure response in the Apple Pencil – it’s so cool in this app! I feel like I’m still learning all the great features that come with Concepts, but luckily there are a lot of YouTube tutorials that I plan on using to learn more about this app.
Problems: Draft’s learning curve is on the steep side, and at first it was an area I felt uncomfortable with. the layer i copied and pasted. I’m sure there must be a way, but I haven’t found it yet. And while the app itself is free, additional brushes cost money, although most brush packs come at a reasonable price. However, when you start buying a lot of extras, the price can really add up. Since this is an app aimed at those who work a lot in product development and architecture, the resulting image has a certain “feel” that I don’t think is as versatile as you would find in other technical apps. .

Price: Free app, with in-app purchases for additional brushes, shapes and tools. I spent $14.99 to get a pack of 10 credits, about half of which I used to buy extra brushes at this point. A free theme will only get you so far, but it’s nice to have more color options.
