In fact, it will be difficult for you to tell any difference in design between the two models, barring the new color scheme. That’s not to say that the Flip4 is a derivative of its older sibling, though. In fact, Samsung has lowered the edge of the phone to help it sit better in the hand. Also, the device is a little shorter this time, but it is also heavy at 187 grams, which can be attributed to the 3,700mAh battery that is more powerful than the phone. Suffice it to say, if you like the design of the Galaxy Z Flip3, you won’t have any fault with the design of the Z Flip4.

As for I/O, the device has a power button and a fingerprint sensor on the right back, which worked well during my time with the phone. The screen viewing angle is also top-notch, and I found that I liked the brightness level the most. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, the Flip 4 screen has a visible slope. Although you won’t notice it when looking at the content head on, it is noticeable when looking along the axis.
There have been some improvements to the cover display, and it supports more widgets now. And, as always, the screen can move notifications when the phone is off. You can access some quick access shortcuts by pressing down on the display case, or take a picture by double-pressing the power button without holding the phone. In this case, the case display doubles as a phone monitor, and you can use swipe-based gestures to change the camera (wide or ultra-wide) or switch between photo modes. and video.

But, to get everyone up to speed, the Flip4’s performance is impressive, and the device has a significant advantage over its predecessor in synthetic benchmarks. For the uninitiated, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which works alongside fast LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Unsurprisingly, the phone handles a lot of everyday tasks, including browsing through various social media platforms or loading a dozen or more apps into storage. That said, despite the more efficient chipset support, I found the phone to freeze when activated. The same goes for games, with devices dropping below 60FPS in Apex Legends Mobile as well. Turn the page to a more demanding game like Genshin Impact and you’ll see the FPS drop quickly during your gaming sessions.
Still, I believe the phone offers better battery support than last year’s model. That said, I used the device for about five hours of screen time on average, and my usage included texting, browsing social media, and watching videos/music on Apple Music. On the other hand, I wish that the device charges quickly, like a standing, fast phone 25W wired charger or 15W charger (and 15W wireless charging) compared to the competition. So you have to connect to a wall charger for 1 hour and 15 minutes to fully charge the phone’s 3,700mAh battery.

As for software, the device runs OneUI v4.1.1 on top of Android 12. The UI is intuitive and user-friendly, and first-time Samsung Galaxy users won’t take long to get used to it. Custom skins also sit alongside the design, and you can install other icon packs and movies using the company’s Theme Park app, which can be downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store. The phone also has many unique features that benefit from its flexible design. For example, the device comes with a FlexMode function that can be used to split applications, whose cores change when the phone is held at a 90-degree angle. For example, you can play a YouTube video in the top half of the screen while the audio controls are in the bottom half of the screen. This allows you to view content safely without using your phone, and has easy access to controls for changing the volume or timestamp slider.

Interestingly, Samsung used a 65% brighter sensor this time around, which improved my phone’s photography experience. In fact, in broad light, the Flip4 does a better job of reducing lens flare from the sun. In general, the image also provides color and great detail. Also, the corner of the snapshots is in the pixel-binned image from the competition. If anything, the phone tends to darken the image to drown out the contrast of other scenes. Also, the ultrawide snapper could use some tweaking, and the camera’s output can mask details and objects at the edges of the frame.
On the other hand, the small photo roll of the phone has also improved. That said, in the example photo above, you can clearly see that the smartphone offers better visibility and less noise than the photo of the Galaxy Z Flip3. And, while the 10MP selfie snapper clicks mediocre photos at its best, you can always snap high-quality selfies with the phone’s main camera, which is great.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 follows in the tradition of its predecessor, offering a stylish clamshell folding design. Apart from aesthetics, the phone also brings better battery support, a faster and more efficient SoC, and an improved camera. Still, Android flagships and traditional tricks will offer great value for money, and you will find that there is no shortage of attractive smartphones that sell for less than the starting price of the Galaxy Z Flip4 of Rs 89,999 in India. with a renewable element that, despite being three generations, is still different. So if the idea of a flip phone appeals to you and you want a phone that will flip every time you take it out of your pocket, the Galaxy Z Flip4 should be at the top of your wish list.
