There is nothing new about the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we looked at the Galaxy M20 ( review ), which is one of Samsung’s first inspirations, we mentioned the general style and the way it breaks from the company’s previous designs. Likewise, the Galaxy A50s could be mistaken for any phone from today’s top brands, no matter what else you look at.

The front of the phone is all screen, with a small camera on top (Samsung calls this design ‘Infinity-U’). The corners of the shield are rounded, and the chin is nicely thick, while the sides and upper border are very narrow. The sides are very thin, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we’ve reviewed these days that doesn’t come with a plastic screen protector attached, which we don’t mind. as well.
On the back, we have a print of the type that Samsung decided to show – a geometric pattern of criss-crossing lines with different colors in each part. Thankfully, the design isn’t as prone to picking up smudges and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s glass, but it does need to be washed several times a day to keep it looking good. There’s also a small prismatic effect under certain lighting conditions, although it’s more subtle than the psychedelic reflections we’ve seen before on this phone.

Samsung used its own octa-core Exynos 9611 processor, which appears to be an upgrade to the Exynos 9610 featured in the Galaxy A50. You get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 cores, and Mali-G72 graphics. This bundle has the same CPU, GPU, and LTE power as its predecessor but supports higher resolutions.

There are two variants of this phone but both have 128GB storage. The only difference is that you get 4GB for Rs. 22, 999 or 6GB RAM for Rs. 24, 999. This is similar to what Samsung has to offer with the Galaxy A50, and we think it’s pointless to have two options that are so similar. If you don’t run heavy programs and games, you probably won’t notice a difference.
The battery is very large at 4000mAh, up to 15W fast charging if you have a 10W charger in the box. It has dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC, and FM radio.
Our unit came with version 1.5 of Samsung’s One UI software, running on top of Android 9 with the August 2019 update. A UI designed primarily for large-screen phones and still looks great. in style and modernity, we don’t like big pictures and wide spaces everywhere. Thankfully, you can adjust the size and shape of the home screen and the app drawer through their settings.

There’s a lot of empty space in the menu and the large screen feels underutilized, especially in the notification shade and the Settings app where a lot of scrolling is required. All of these are triggered when you leave or enter a location, connect to an accessory, open a specific app, receive a call, and/or pair with a specific Bluetooth device.
The Super AMOLED panel offers an ambient display, although by default, the phone is set to require one tap when the phone is in standby mode to see the time and status images. You can set it to appear all the time or at certain times.
