HP has stepped up with an innovative, compact case design for the Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0203in. It’s not as extravagant or flashy as most gaming hardware these days, but it definitely still has an edge and won’t blend in. Don’t forget it for office PCs. At 33.74cm long, 15.54cm wide and 30.7cm deep, the Pavilion Gaming Desktop is much smaller than you might expect and won’t take up much space on your desk.
The front panel is slightly raised in the middle and has a V-shaped pattern. There’s no optical drive, but you’ll find a row of ports on the immediate right – a surprisingly comprehensive selection that includes a 3.5mm combo audio socket, two USB 3.1 Gen1 (5Gbps) ports, two USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps) ports included. , an SD card slot and a USB 3.1 Gen1 (5Gbps) Type-C port. HP has done a great job with the exterior design of the Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0203in, and the build quality seems to be pretty solid as well. A look at the back will tell you that the company hasn’t used entirely standard components – the motherboard port layout is unusual and the power supply is compact. You can pop off the left panel with a single screw, but there’s a Kensington lock slot if you need to secure it for any reason.
Windows 11 Review: The Start Of A New Era
I quickly confirmed that the motherboard and power supply were indeed custom designs, which would limit repairs and future upgrades. The power supply has a 310W maximum power output rating and only minimal connectors, but is rated at least 80 Plus Gold for efficiency. There is a single 8-pin PCIe power connector for the graphics card and only one spare SATA connector.
The next thing that jumped out at me is the relatively small CPU cooler and fan – it’s definitely not as pretty as the stock Wraith Prism cooler that ships with the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, and it also has RGB LEDs. There is a reduction in load.
RAM, NVMe SSD, graphics card and hard drive are all standard. There’s a mount so you can add another SATA hard drive or SSD, and another RAM slot for dual-channel kits. A free PCIe 1x slot might come in handy, but that’s about the expansion potential. There’s also a standard Wi-Fi module and the antenna is routed to a neat plastic front panel, keeping it hidden but perhaps not as effective as the homeless external module.
Airflow can be a bit of a concern. The case has air intake holes on the left panel but no fan on the front. There is only one 90mm fan on the rear panel, apart from the graphics card’s own fan. On the plus side, the cable routing is very clean and efficient.

With Windows 10 pre-installed, all you have to do is plug in your peripherals and power on. I went through the setup process and allowed the latest updates to download and apply. HP has implemented an automatic BIOS update system, which, when convenient, occurs on reboot without any user prompting. This can raise alarm bells for users who don’t expect dire warnings about allowing the process to complete without interrupting power.
I used an Asus PB287Q 4K monitor and a normal desktop keyboard and mouse set. All settings were left at their defaults. Having previously reviewed the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 GPU as standalone components, it will be interesting to see if HP’s design and implementation allows them to reach their full potential.
Thanks in large part to the NVMe SSD, Windows boots quickly and there are no delays in everyday tasks. I had over 20 tabs open in Google Chrome, streaming HD video and working on large documents simultaneously, without a problem.
