There are sacrifices yes, but it’s a great phone for the higher price. It has a beautiful screen, a reliable camera and a sleek new design that feels a little futuristic. The basics are here and they are all made better.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 isn’t the highest-end phone in Samsung’s current lineup, so if you want one, check out the Galaxy S21 Ultra. But having used a fully pared-down device, I can confirm that it ticks all the important boxes for most people. This along with its more wallet-friendly price makes it a great smartphone.
The S21 is the lowest entry point in Samsung’s flagship phone line and it has some significant changes from last year’s Galaxy S20. Expanded storage is missing, you have to do the plastic back and the screen resolution is mainly FHD + only. On top of that, you’ll have to shell out for your charger and headphones – happily setting the standard for last year’s iPhone 12.
However, there is much to be admired and the Galaxy S21 could be one of the best Android phones of the year, with great cameras and offers buyers a unique new design and a price tag that lower than expected. There is strong concentration.

This is the first time we’ve seen Samsung unveil its flagship smartphone in a while, with a general release in March. However, as the pandemic continues to affect the world, it looks like this year will be different.
Galaxy S21 Review: Admitting Mistakes And Atoning
Samsung has made some cuts to the Galaxy S21 that make it less “flagship” than previous Samsung Hero phones. Whether this is a blessing or a curse depends on your personal expectations, but overall I think the move is the right one as it allows Samsung to lower the phone’s RRP.
There are two notable cuts, as well as other minor pieces that are no longer available. The biggest, especially for those who still want it to be a high-end flagship phone, is the drop in maximum screen resolution. Specifically, Samsung dropped it from WQHD+ to FHD+, basically from 1440p to 1080p. While yes, you can – if you really look for it – see a difference, on a 6.2-inch panel it’s not an issue for me.
This is mostly because the rest of the display is fine. It is OLED, very bright, but very fast and has an integrated refresh rate that can be as low as 48Hz and up to 120Hz. It’s a big improvement over the S20’s 120Hz panel because it doesn’t waste energy when you’re not benefiting from fast, smooth speeds.
It’s hard to overstate the benefits of a 120Hz display because it’s something that needs to be seen to be appreciated. But you can actually feel it everywhere in use, from scrolling through Twitter to playing a round of PUBG Mobile. Coming to the S21 from the iPhone 12, I’m even more disappointed that Apple decided not to implement this technology in the latest phone, because the S21 feels smooth and responsive in daily use.

For the first time in years for a mainline S-series phone, the screen here is completely flat. Finally! I love a flat screen and that’s one of the reasons I’m drawn to the iPhone 12. It means the S21 is easier to hold and generally feels less flimsy. Of all the missing features for the S21, the lack of a curved screen is more of a pro for me.
Another big difference between the S21 and the outgoing Galaxy S20 is a switch on a plastic back, instead of a glass one. I tore it up at first because I always felt that glass felt more premium than plastic but after using the Galaxy S21 for a week, I think the transition is good and most people don’t worry. due to material change. The plastic is very strong, without being flexible.
The only downside is that the phone doesn’t feel as expensive as previous headline S series phones. The finish of the Galaxy S20 FE is higher than the main S20. It’s light, but lacks that satisfying heaviness you get with glass. The back still carries the dusty finish as well as the smudges, which is an annoyance for a clean person like me.
While the back is plastic, the S21 still has a Gorilla Glass protection screen and metal rails. The S21 Plus opts for an all-glass design, so it’s the one to go for if you want a more premium finish.
Samsung Galaxy S21+ Review: Should You Buy This Flagship
The camera module is now very much part of the design. It sits on the top left side of the phone, matching the edge of the handset. I wasn’t sure about the change at first, but I really like the quick progress. Most phones have a large camera module on the back and design around it, while this one feels like a cohesive unit.
Samsung also has a little off-buck with its two-tone color selection. The headline-grabbing “Phantom Violet” model combines a light purple color with rose gold accents, which works well. There is also a gold option, along with more modest white and black options. If you splash out for the Plus, silver is also an option.
Another drawback is microSD card expansion. This happened once before in the S series and was quickly brought back the next year
