Update Clear Box Pencil Case Review – Over a year ago, I wrote a post where I shopped at Muji and praised their products that I got from a pop-up shop. If you read that post and go to the “story” section, you’ll understand how much I’ve always wanted a Muji pen because I’ve seen so many people around me carrying it. With a simple, square, slightly translucent minimalist look, I just had to buy it, and it cost around $2 to $3! I finally got it shortly after Muji opened its first official store in Vancouver. I thought writing this post would be useful for those who want to know how much stuff can fit in this pen case.
As you can see below, it has two compartments, which some of my colleagues were happy to see. For me, that means having a small space to keep my erasers separate from my pens and pencils, and to keep trash and crumbs away. In the smaller compartment I also keep small things like some papers and a hair clip.

Here are my paper items from the big box. I include a ruler, two Muji 0.7 pens (my favorite!), a highlighter (also from Muji), a pencil, a ruler, a pencil case, and a whitener. However, I would like to point out that the bleaching is minor compared to the regular white that I find in the paper section of supermarkets or at Staples. I tried to file a regular one earlier and the case was not closed. Also, keep in mind that I have to place my items in a certain way in order to close the case.

Here’s another way to use the top compartment if you rarely use your pencils and want to keep the whites separate. Again, this white-out is smaller than the normal white-out I got from Muji. The blue and white one I showed in the previous picture was from Deso and could fit in the large compartment, but not the small compartment.
Personally, I would give this item a 7/10 rating for function, but aesthetically, I really like the look of it, so I’ll give it a 9/10 rating for that. I would say that if you value aesthetics, and this pen is your style, then you might want to buy it. If you need to focus more on tasks (e.g. calculator, markers, regular-sized highlighters and whites, pens, various rulers), I’d recommend something like a soft bag zipper. Pencil case, which will probably hold more despite being similar in size to this case (210 x 70 x 25 mm).
