You get very impressive picture quality and great smart TV features for a relatively low price. Basically, it has absolutely everything you need, making it one of the best TVs under £1,000.
The Samsung AU9000 we’re reviewing here is the 50-inch version, but there are also 43-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch models. With this kind of price and screen size range, it should appeal to more or less everyone, and if you’re looking for something with a relatively low price, this is definitely one of the best 43-inch TVs and the best 50-inch TVs in the middle. Despite the eye-catching price, the AU9000 has very good specifications. Not only is it packed with advanced HDR HDR10+, but it is also packed with the amazing Samsung Tizen Smart TV interface. The Samsung AU9000 is available now, with the 50-inch version we tested priced at £699. Considering Samsung’s recent experience with hot-selling products, sooner or later the price will be even more attractive. But still, it’s a really competitive price.

It’s a shame that HDR10+ isn’t widely used, apart from Dolby Vision being available on some of the world’s leading video streaming services.
But if you forget that disappointment allows you to focus on many good things. This is a 4K LCD TV with edge LED backlighting, which helps explain how thin the TV looked in my living room. As a result, it’s a prime candidate for wall mounting, but after placing it on a table or shelf, I was happy to see a bit of cable management in the simple push-and-snap feet.
We found the connectivity to be sufficient for most users. Three HDMI inputs (one with eARC support for use with any soundbar), a pair of USB 2.0 sockets, a CI card socket, an Ethernet socket and an antenna connection post for the built-in tuner will keep most people satisfied. . . Colors can be bold and vivid if desired (more or less every sports team uniform falls into this category). If desired, it can also be muted and soft in color (for example, more or less the clothes of the manager of any sports team). The transitions also made me sit up and pay attention. So when watching football, the numerous almost identical shades of green seen from the field are displayed and well differentiated.
After looking at different content, I noticed that the edge definition was also handled well and that it really drew the edges with confidence. Only when combined with proper on-screen motion testing is the edge no longer smooth, and only when on-screen motion becomes properly complex does Samsung have a real commitment other than the grip motion. In fact, you can only sweat the CPU if you ask it to do tons of upscaling. The Full HD ones are upscaled to the native AU9000 resolution with absolute guarantees. I thought the level of detail would be kept high, the colors wouldn’t be affected, and the movement would be preserved just fine. But if you dig into properly dated SD content, there’s no doubt that Samsung is working hard to fill the 3840×2160 panel with information.

No, the AU9000 isn’t the dullest, most obscure or volume-restricted TV I’ve ever heard, but it’s also not all that interesting and engaging.

So if you want to honor your sound with the cinematic art of the AU9000, it won’t be the first time, it won’t be the last time, but I highly recommend buying one of the best and most affordable soundbars out there.
From the front, the AU9000 looks like an unmissable device, which is absolutely positive. Narrow bezels and minimal legs are all you really want from your new TV, big or small, right?
