SINCE US: I’ve included my thoughts on the US 4K blue ray and continuous blue tint output from Arrow Video, as well as some blue tint screenshots to give you an idea of what the video will look like.

A Trip To The Moon

NOTE: I am not able to take screenshots of 4K Blue Rays. Therefore, there will be no screenshots in this review. I would add screenshots of the blue rays, but Ok 4K doesn’t want to add the blue ray with most of the blue rays, so I can’t. Finally, there are the usual coated arrows.

When Elvis-loving comic book executive Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) enters the life of Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette), Sonny Chiba becomes involved in the triple act, and the two have been inextricably linked ever since. Within 24 hours, after Clarence is forced to kill Alabama’s psychopathic owner, they are married. Driving Cadillacs across the country from Detroit to Hollywood, newlyweds plan to sell a suitcase full of stolen drugs to finance a new life for themselves… but they don’t suspect the police and the mob are closing in on them. Will they escape and fulfill their dream of a happy ending? (Taken from 4K Blue Ray)

What is not being said about TRUE ROMANCE? This is one of Tony Scott’s best movies and one of Quentin Tarantino’s best screenplays. Everything about this movie is right. Unforgettable with some of the best dialogue scenes in an action movie. Tony Scott gives the film a traditional look and feel, but he does something his contemporaries haven’t always done: he ditches the dialogue scenes. Most action directors would have cut the dialogue to suit his filmmaking style, not Scott. It lets the icons do the talking and matches the style of their surroundings. The film also has one of the best costs. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are great here. They are so reliable and cute. I can’t imagine anyone else in these roles. There is no imperfect role in this film. It was a movie that many people discovered after going to their local video store. That’s how I found it. TRUE ROMANCE is the best movie ever released.

It’s a nice transition, with the film presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a new 4K review of the film’s original negative and 35mm footage. The inner rays of the film are similar to both, so Arrow has their work cut out for them. Fortunately, the Arrow is still coming. Retail is very high here, especially in close quarters. The “Sicilia” scene is a clear example of this. You can see that Christopher Walken’s character is wearing a short suit, something I haven’t seen before. The artificial sharpening disappeared like a sound. Corn is here too. It’s subtle, but it’s there and it’s very nice. HDR (both HDR10 and Dolby Vision) gives us very beautiful colors. This is one of the best transfers of 2021.

Offbeat Blu Ray Review: Crimson Peak

We have two soundtracks to choose from: the 5.1 track and the original 2.0 mix of the film. 5.1 way too hard. In fact, it was stronger than I expected. This is not a bad thing. It’s just unexpected. Dialogue sounds great and the environment in action scenes is immersive.

Picture and sound are the same as the expected UK release. The picture quality on the unreviewed Blu-ray is impressive, as most 4K Blu-rays do not contain blue rays in Arrow Video. Everything I’ve said about 4K picture and sound quality can be applied to the Blu-ray release with the usual limitations. Of course, there’s no HDR in the blues, as the colors aren’t as true or as dark as in the 4K version, and the level of detail isn’t as high, but that doesn’t mean the blues are inferior. The blue ray looks great and belongs in every fan’s collection.

Arrow Video has carried over all the features inherited from various DVDs and Blu-rays over the years and added a few special features. There are four comment entries for the main function. All four are worth listening to for entirely different reasons. Tony Scott’s trail is a technical trail. Tarantino’s Way is a “way of watching” version with Tarantino talking about the film from the writer’s POV and the audience’s POV. The Slater/Arquette track is an acting track that talks about working with different actors and people behind the scenes. Tim Lucas’s way is to step back from the audience’s POV.

Next, there are six optional scene annotation paths on top of the four basic annotation paths. These tracks range from four to thirty-four minutes long and include the actor’s screen time. The Left Four have two new songs with Bronson Pincott and Saul Rubinek. I had fun with all of these trails, they don’t take long.

Beyond The Door Blu Ray

Here are five new interviews. The first is with costume designer Susan Becker, who recalls Tony Scott’s varied approach to materials and his preferences for each character. Then there’s Michael Tronick, who worked with Scott on several films as an editor. It speaks volumes about Scott’s filming style and how he always gives enough detail in every scene. Scott loved to shoot, even if he was put down. Mark Mancina and John Van Tongeren are next to talk about their time on the film and what it was like working with Hans Zimmer. Larry Taylor reviews Scott’s career in the following interview. Scott has always been a director we need to know more about, and this interview definitely fills in on the late director. Finally, Dan Price, a fan of the film, is available for new interviews. He talks about how he got the purple Cadillac that Christian Slater drives in the movie.

See you next time for eleven deleted and extended scenes. There are some good scenes in there, but they were cut. The alternate ending is interesting, but it would kill the mood of the entire film and leave the audience on a heavy note. The electronic press kit includes four featurettes on the making of the film and some interviews with the cast. And last but not least, are rentals and photo galleries.

Where UK and US discs differ is in the special features department. We knew there were going to be some changes, as James Flower of Arrow’s video said on his twitter. The Cadillac Man ended up interviewing the owner of the car Clarence drives in the movie. I don’t know why this feature is missing because it seems strange that it is missing. The new interviews are shorter and select scene commentaries. Most of these can be attributed to logos and credits. There is no problem when the execution time difference is a few seconds. However, it becomes a problem when the time difference is in minutes. The interview with Michael Tronick is a minute shorter than the interview with Larry Taylor. Everything else is the same.
