The Samsung Galaxy A51 takes over from the Galaxy A50, its successful predecessor launched in 2019. The A51 continues the A50 tradition as the first phone to bring new features to the budget range.

While the Galaxy A50 introduced an optical fingerprint sensor to budget phones last year, the Galaxy A51 brings a macro camera to Samsung’s smartphones.

The most notable aspects of the A51 are its bright display and quad cameras on the back. It feels plastic to the touch, which is not too surprising for a mid-range device, but the back of the phone is decorated with a prismatic criss-cross pattern that looks attractive with iridescent colors.

On the left is the tray for SIM and microSD cards, and on the right is the power button and volume rocker.

At the bottom of the phone is a USB Type-C port and a much-appreciated 3.5mm headphone jack. The speaker grille is also located in the lower right corner. The only problem I ran into with this was getting used to accidentally covering the speaker with my fingers when talking or consuming video content in landscape mode.

Should You Buy Samsung Galaxy A51 In 2021?

Viewing content on the huge 6.5-inch Full HD + Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels and a 20: 9 aspect ratio is a real pleasure. In fact, the A51 is the first in the Galaxy A series to feature the signature Infinity-O Display.

It is slightly larger than the 6.4-inch panel of the Galaxy A50. The frames are slightly thinner than its predecessor. It also has a flat panel which feels like a refreshing experience, especially if you have been using the curved display for a long time.

The handset is also hidden within the frame to maximize this screen-to-body ratio which is impressive. It has an on-screen fingerprint reader and some other cool features from flagship devices like Samsung Pay, Bixby, and Link to Windows.

Two cameras on the phone are a thing of the past. Galaxy A51 has four cameras on the back and one selfie camera.

Redmi Note 10s Review: Perfect For Its Price

There’s an L-shaped quad camera on the back, with the main rear camera featuring a 48-megapixel lens sitting alongside a 5-megapixel macro lens that lets users take close-up photos, which is a first is for a Samsung smartphone.

It also has a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, which is useful for taking photos where you can’t go back any further, and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing camera that lets you click through photos in ‘Live Focus’ mode.

Under the hood, it is powered by the advanced Exynos 9611 octa-core chipset with AI-based Game Booster, which also makes it perform well in graphics-intensive games and handle multitasking and daily tasks well.

The phone also boasts the goodness of Android 10. Samsung wants every phone launched in 2020 (flagship or otherwise) to have the latest and greatest version of OneUI ready to go. A change that Samsung users have longed for for years.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: Perfect In Its Own Reality

Fueling the whole package is a 4,000 mAh battery that draws power through the USB-C port and supports 15W fast charging, so the phone will last a long time, even when playing video.

Galaxy A51 will be available in Blue, White, Black Prism Crush colors. The version that Samsung has launched in India currently comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which is expandable up to 512GB with a MicroSD card. This is extremely welcome in the mid-range segment and is the largest we have seen in terms of internal storage capacity as a starting point. The phone will set you back by Rs. 23,999.

The Galaxy A51 is certainly an improvement over last year’s Galaxy A50s, it wins with a great display, stellar battery and pretty decent cameras, but it has some very stiff competition in the sub-$25,000 price range.

Samsung is strengthening its A series with brand new models, starting with the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51, which it announced earlier this month. The Galaxy A51 has already been launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 23 999. This new smartphone brings several iterative updates to the current Galaxy A50s (review) to keep the series fresh and up-to-date.

Update A51 Colour Variants Review

According to Samsung, the Galaxy A51 is one of the first phones in the series with an Infinity-O display and a macro camera. In addition to these important features, it has many of the same specs as its predecessor, including the AMOLED display, processor and design aesthetics. There isn’t much competition at this price level other than the Redmi K20 Pro (Review) and Redmi K20 (Review), which could be an advantage for Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review Pros, Cons & Faq

The body of the Samsung Galaxy A51 has a similar design to that of the Galaxy A50s. We have a body made entirely of polycarbonate, which is quite light, weighing only 172 g, and also quite slim, measuring only 7.9 mm in thickness. The glossy exterior is prone to picking up fingerprints, but they’re not very noticeable on our Prism Crush Black unit. The finish on the back is also a bit slippery, but luckily Samsung delivers the case in the box.

The biggest change is the Infinity-O Display, which we first see on the phone of the Galaxy A series. It’s basically a single hole in the top center of the display, similar to what we saw on the Galaxy Note 10+ (review). Samsung may not have changed the body design too much, but having a punch-hole display does the trick
