The Samsung Galaxy A51 is a very affordable phone that you can buy if you can’t afford the Samsung Galaxy S22 or S21 Galaxy S21, or the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition in your space.
The price is lower with obvious downgrades from Samsung’s flagship phones. We will cover this in more detail in this Samsung Galaxy A51 review, but the back is finally plastic rather than glass, the cameras are less good (although there are five of them), the body is weak, and good. to have, as water resistance.
The classic Samsung look you get in the galaxy A51 includes an AMOLED display, and software that is similar to the galaxy S21 series.
At $399 / £329 / AU$599 the Samsung A51 looks like it’s on fire. However, there are more performance issues here than alternatives like the Moto G8 Plus and Oppo Reno 2Z. Don’t expect miracles from the camera. As with many affordable quad-camera phones, this is like a dual-lens phone with some extras, although its third camera is as good as most in its class and there are many ways to take pictures.
When we got a look at this device, Samsung also introduced a slightly veiled version called the Galaxy A51 5G. We haven’t tested this device properly yet, but the big difference is that it has a different body with added 5G connectivity.
Now the company has also followed the Galaxy A51 with the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. This – along with the presence of 5G – has other upgrades such as a 120Hz screen, a larger battery of 4,500mAh, more megapixels in its main camera, and a different chipset.
Of course, it also costs more, so the Samsung Galaxy A51 is still worth considering – it’s not one of Samsung’s best phones, but it’s still a good choice.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 $399 / £329 / AU$599 is such a cheap phone, and with the likes of the OnePlus Nord at £379 (about $480, AU$680), and the Moto G 5G Plus at £299 (at the time. $375, AU$535).
Other options include the iPhone SE (2022) at $429 / £419 / AU$719 and the Google Pixel 4a at $349 / £349 / AU$599.v It’s worth pointing out that the first of these is a 5G phone, well, a Galaxy. A51, no.
We reviewed the model well, but Samsung later released a 5G version for $500 / £429 (around AU$700). While it is more expensive than the 4G version, it is not too expensive than 5G phones.
Of course, the prices listed above are starting prices, but if you shop around you can find the LG Galaxy A51 for less now. At the time of writing we saw it selling for $290 / £230 / AU$390.

You can pick up the Samsung Galaxy A51 in most countries where Samsung sells the phone, although the 5G version isn’t available in Australia. This is curious, and we don’t know if this is a stable state or just temporary.
If you have a little more to spend, you might also want to consider the newer Samsung Galaxy A52 5G.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 has some of the design features of a higher-end Samsung phone. But there are a few gifts that are not part of the affordable Galaxy S series.
The edges of the display are slimmer, and the front camera sits in one of Samsung’s ‘Infinity O’ punch holes. But the back is more plastic than glass, and the front camera is nowhere near and often integrated into the front glass.

Actually, the glass covers the front selfie camera. But the layers below have a bigger impact, making the Samsung A51’s selfie camera stick out like a small monocle.
The side buttons are also plastic. The result? The design of the Samsung Galaxy A51 is closer to the Motorola Moto G8 or the Oppo A5 2020 than the high-end Samsung.
It has, however, a little different. Like other recent A-series phones, the Samsung Galaxy A51 has a finish with cutting lines, graphically cut on the back, slightly different from each other. The bottom has a pinstripe texture with thin lines, for example, sitting under the top plastic panel.
This is a small sight, but when the Samsung Galaxy A51 catches the light, you will see clear music that streaks through the curved edges of the laser aimed at the tank.

It can pass for a lot of expensive LGs, especially if the four cameras on the back seem too high. This phone is smaller in size, thicker and wider than the Galaxy S20.
Like most phones of this price, the Samsung Galaxy A51 is not waterproof. But it does have a 3.5mm headphone port, which is handy if you haven’t made the jump to Bluetooth headphones yet.
It has an in-display fingerprint scanner, another attempt to make the Samsung Galaxy A51 as a high-end phone. But this scanner is not good. It’s slower than most, and you won’t recognize your fingers if they’re even slightly damp, or if you’re not careful about the position of your thumb.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. This is the closest to winning on paper, as many phones at this price have LCD screens.

OLEDs tend to deliver deeper colors and always have better contrast than LCDs because they use lighter elements than global illuminants. This OLED panel is not Samsung’s biggest, however, and there are a few obvious issues.
Smaller OLED panels use a light blue color from the right angle, usually when you turn the phone screen left or right. It’s not a big question, because we all have phones in front of our eyes, right?
But this effect comes from somewhere else in the Samsung A51. Keep a relaxed, pleasant mood, and the peak of the display has this blue color. It is only obvious when the main part of the screen is white, as in the example page, but it immediately shows that this is not the best of Samsung’s OLEDs.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 gets another traditional OLED display feature. Its vivid screen mode option looks saturated, and contrast in a dark room is clearly better than LCD phones of this price.

The brightness of the screen is also very good, if not in the same league as the Galaxy S20. The maximum brightness seems to be used indoors, but the Samsung Galaxy A51 glass sport was taken outside in the sun. It also makes colors and contrasts visible in difficult situations.
It’s not bright enough to watch videos in sunlight, but the interface and pages look bright.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 is also confirmed for HD Netflix by advertising, but it does not support HDR video.
Issues aside, this phone is great for sharing video, even anywhere, but the punch-hole camera inside the face (if small) is doubly annoying.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 has four rear cameras. But when you first start a camera, you’ll be surprised what half of them do.
No zoom, which is a classic sign of a multi-camera setup that uses additional lenses to create more numbers. We can’t entirely blame Samsung for this, because it’s not easy to fit a zoom camera into a decent phone.
You get a 48MP main camera, one 12MP ultra-wide and two 5MP cameras for close-up macro shots and depth-of-field shots for background blur.
It’s not hard to see the fills: two 5MP cameras. However, this information is more suspicious than the example that Oppo recently proved. Oppo A9 2020 has dual 2MP cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy A51’s 5MP macro camera won’t see you win the Lifetime Achievement Award, but it’s fun to play with. You can get close to your subject and shoot things that the main camera doesn’t focus on. Its main problem, not only beautiful pictures, is fading. Shaking hands will ruin your photos a bit if the lighting is good.
This is still a useful macro camera, and there are other ways to think about how you take pictures. Samsung
