The Samsung Galaxy A50s doesn’t look like an update to the Galaxy A50 and it’s a lot of additions. The main goal here is to bring a 48 MP camera to the A series. So, it’s the most refined phone since the A50, but it doesn’t come close to the competition’s offerings.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Flagship Looks At A Mid Range Price

Samsung announced the Galaxy A50 update from earlier this year – the Galaxy A50s went on sale. The A50s brings some of the camera features found in the company’s best mid-range phones. There is a new chipset that powers the phone with Samsung Pay support.

We were impressed with the display and build quality of the Galaxy A50, but the camera leaves us wanting more. Similarly, Samsung’s OneUI didn’t feel well-made for normal use, which is often a pain for consumers.

So, does this incremental update bring any special features to the table or is it just another phone from the South Korean electronics maker? Here’s what we found.

The Samsung Galaxy A50s starts at Rs 22,999 with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The other variant has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage to boot, priced at Rs 24,999. The Galaxy A50 was released at the same price, but one can sell it for 18,490 (4GB + 64GB) and 21,490 (6GB + 64GB) officially.

Samsung Galaxy A50 First Impressions: Flagship Features At (relatively) Affordable Price

The A50s are available at leading online stores, Samsung Online Store in India and Samsung Opera House in Bangalore.

It comes in three colors – Prism Crush Black, White and Violet. Samsung sent us the Prism Crush Violet color of the top variant (6GB RAM + 128GB) for review.

Following the lines of the Galaxy A50, the A50s also features a glossy finish and features attractive shades in a variety of colors. This time, however, the rear seats have been modified to include a prism-like design that only displays reflective colors. It’s not as good as the graphics on the A50 and it looks great.

Due to the display, the back is also prone to finger injuries and scratches easily, and one would have a hard time keeping the phone clean.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Is The Latest Phone To Get October 2021 Android Security Patch

There is a camera module on the top left side of the phone followed by an LED flash. The company’s first label is on the back and is located in the middle. It’s similar to what we saw on the A50.

The volume rocker and power button are located on the right side while the SIM card slot is on the left side.

There are stickers that appear near the flush screen and the u-shape. The bottom side of the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port and a speaker grill. There is an additional notch cutout at the top.

The Galaxy A50s has the same dimensions as the Galaxy A50, 158.5 x 74.5 x 7.7 mm and weighs 166 grams. It feels light in the hand and is not too heavy for you to hold and use comfortably.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Android 11 One Ui 3.1 Update Now Available

Due to its slim profile, the Galaxy A50s feels light in the hand, and the prism-like display on the back is a slight departure from the previous generation.

The Samsung Galaxy A50s has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display. The U-shaped display panel on the front offers an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of 91.6%.

Given the size, we believe this is the display we’ve seen on the Galaxy A50. If true, the display is also coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection.

We were impressed with the Galaxy A50’s visuals, and as such, the Super AMOLED display on the A50s does not disappoint. The screen can produce bright, vibrant colors, but sometimes it tends to go over the temperature range. However, the u-shaped display area of the Infinity-U does not detract from the overall viewing experience.

Samsung offers various options for users to customize the screen according to their eye comfort. The option includes a light blue filter, a dark mode and two color options: natural and fine. The phone also has an Edge panel unlock feature and Edge light support for added notifications.

All in all, if one goes for the Galaxy A50s, they will not be disappointed with the viewing experience it offers.

One of the most important innovations on the Galaxy A50s is the main camera. There’s a 48MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, and although Samsung hasn’t officially announced it, the sensor used here is the Sony IMX582.

In addition to the main camera, there is an 8 MP ultra-wide camera and a 5 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture. Both cameras use the Sony IMX616 sensor.

The camera app has a dedicated night mode, picture quality, 30+ exposure modes and Super Steady Video. On the front, there is a 32 MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

So the difference between Sony’s IMX582 sensor on the A50s and the IMX586 on phones like the Realme X, Mi A3 or OnePlus 7 is small. Both sensors have the same video recording capabilities, but the IMX582 shoots 4K at 30fps while the IMX586 can do 4K at 60fps.

Samsung’s camera upgrade improves the photography experience in the A50s. During the day, the camera produced great images, but the same cannot be said about its performance in the environment.

The main camera produces normal-looking images with rich and dynamic colors, while the images from the ultra-wide-angle camera take the practice of searching. This is also because the ultra-wide lens does not support the focus pressure.

Samsung Android 11 Update: When Will Your Phone Get One Ui 3.0?

At night, photos taken on the A50 were noisy, and even the camera app took a while to focus on the subject we shot. The night mode on the front camera does a good job of blurring out nighttime images and reducing noise. However, even that is not enough to improve the A50s camera performance.

Since the phone has a 48MP sensor, users can go to the camera app, tap the ratio button, and select 3:4H from the list of options to capture a full 48MP photo.
