The Galaxy A series of Samsung has been renewed in 2019, due to its decision to increase the specifications and offer a better price. The Samsung Galaxy A50 is highly preferred, but only available through networks.

Fortunately, the unlocked variant is now available for pre-order through Amazon (h/t: SamMobile ), for $350. If you pre-order now, you’ll get a Samsung Galaxy Fit fitness tracker. However, the seller says that the item will be released on September 20.
Samsung Galaxy A50s Review With Pros And Cons
The 2019 Galaxy A50 ticks a few boxes for a mid-range smartphone, with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED (FHD+) screen, a fingerprint sensor, and a 4,000mAh battery with 15W charging.
Samsung’s mid-ranger isn’t bad anywhere else, offering the Exynos 9610 chipset, 4GB to 6GB of RAM, and expandable storage of up to 64GB or 128GB. A 25MP selfie camera in the waterdrop notch and a triple rear camera setup (25MP, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP depth) make the photography issue clear.
Our own Dhruv Bhutani in his Galaxy A50 review thought it was one of Samsung’s best in years. He praised the OLED screen, design and performance, but liked the software experience compared to the Redmi Note 7 Pro.
“This phone does not interfere or bother you with key permissions and certainly does not display ads. For me, I can think of a large number of users, which is a big motivation,” wrote Dhruv.

The potential downside is that Samsung has already announced the Galaxy A50s, which offers a 48MP primary camera instead of the A50’s 25MP sensor. However, the A50s does not offer any other changes.

By now, everyone knows about Samsung’s Galaxy S phones like the Galaxy S10 and S10+, and the 1199 Galaxy S10e which is cheap. However, when you look beyond what’s affordable, Samsung’s portfolio quickly gets messy.
Between Samsung’s various budget and mid-range offerings, there are many phones that look the same.
With the Galaxy A50, Samsung cuts through the clutter and pursues one of the best budget and mid-range handsets on the market. With a retail price of $499, the Galaxy A50 sits nicely between the $399 Moto G7 and the $649 Pixel 3a. It also packs a few features that the other two don’t, like dual rear cameras and an in-display fingerprint reader.
Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: A Stellar Refresh With One Major Letdown
From the outside, the Galaxy A50 looks similar to the Moto G7. Both phones have center-mounted selfie cameras that dip into their screens, with large, bezel-less displays and sleek, curved backs.
However, when you look closer, you start to notice that everything is much smoother on the Galaxy A50. The A50’s bezels are smaller, its chin is smaller, and although the dimensions are largely the same, Samsung has included a 6.4-inch 2340 x 1080 OLED screen in the Galaxy A50, while the Moto G7 should match the 6.2-inch 2270 x its. 1080 LCD. So not only is the A50’s screen large, it’s also bright and colorful.
Both phones come with headphone jacks and microSD card slots. But on the back, the A50 has a 25-MP main camera, an 8-MP 123-degree wide-angle camera, and a 5-MP depth-sensing camera to help with portrait-style shooting. It’s a huge improvement over the cameras found on all other phones in this price range. Even though the back of the A50 is plastic instead of glass like you get on the G7, and Samsung officially calls the stuff “Glastiki” (I’m not kidding), it’s hard to tell the difference.
In terms of photography, the Galaxy A50 remains superior to the G7 as well, thanks to better overall sharpness and color saturation, and especially, low-light performance. In fact, in almost every way, the A50 is a better device than the Moto G7.
Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset
However, when paired with the Pixel 3a, the Galaxy A50 falls short. Despite the lack of a rear camera, the Pixel 3a’s photo quality is very good, producing photos with better detail and clarity than any phone in this price range.

For example, take a photo of flowers taken by both phones (see gallery below). While the A50’s shot is bright and clear, its color saturation will overshadow details such as wrinkles in flower petals. In low light, the Pixel 3a offers better sensitivity, resulting in a brighter, better-exposed image. Since the A50 doesn’t have a dedicated night mode, turning on the Pixel 3a’s Night Sight widens the gap in image quality between the two phones.
It’s a similar performance story where the A50 and Moto G7 turned in comparable results in benchmarks such as WebXPRT 2015, Geekbench 4 and 3DMark. In Geekbench 4, the Galaxy A50 (5536) beats the Moto G7 (4624), indicating real-world performance where the G7 suffers from more lag and UI stutter than the A50. The Pixel 3a is even smoother thanks to its Snapdragon 670 chip (versus the A50’s Exynos 9610). It scores very well in 3DMark’s Slingshot Unlimited test (the Pixel 3a hits 2581, which is 50 percent higher than the A50’s 1682).

While the A50’s image looks better from a distance, if you zoom in on Mime’s face, it’s easy to see where the Pixel 3a captured more detail.
When it comes to battery life, the Galaxy A50’s 4,000 mAh battery completely crushed the G7’s mark of 9:29, lasting 12 hours and 17 minutes in our video test. Meanwhile, the Pixel 3a fared worse at 11:51, while the larger Pixel 3a XL fared slightly better at 12:43.
This list also extends to features such as the speaker (or speakers) in each phone, as the Moto G7 and Galaxy A50 have mono speakers, the Pixel 3a offers true stereo sound. (I should point out that unlike the other two, the Pixel 3a doesn’t have an SD card slot.)

Fourth Time’s The Charm
The only real problem with the A50 is the fingerprint sensor. I’d like to give Samsung credit for including a technical feature in a budget device, but in my experience, using it can be hit or miss. Usually, it had no problem reading my digits, but sometimes, it would take three or four taps to unlock the phone. Even after re-registering my edition several times I could not solve the problem.
The most important factor in deciding which of these tools to buy is price. The 499 Galaxy A50 is better than the 399 Moto G7 in every way, but it costs $100 more. And then there’s the Pixel 3A. At $649, it’s an average device. On the other hand, it has stereo speakers, better performance and a better camera.
With the Galaxy A50, Samsung seems to be putting more effort into its affordable phones. As the prices of today’s flagship phones go up to $1000 or more, the increased competition in the budget / mid-range is something to celebrate.
You can buy the Galaxy A50 directly from Samsung, otherwise it is widely stocked in phone stores and online. The Astro A50 offers the bells and whistles you’d expect from a wireless gaming headset, but it falls short on basics like the mic and build quality. For $300, you should get something more durable.
