Update A12 Dual Sim Price Review

Update A12 Dual Sim Price Review – With the Galaxy A12, Samsung has significantly expanded its budget range, adding a larger display, a better camera and a comfortably textured finish. Had to cut some corners in the power department, but it’s one of the best sub-$200 phones on the market.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 budget smartphone is more than a rehash of the Galaxy A11 – with a bigger battery, different cameras and more. Value hunters will also appreciate that Samsung managed to keep the price below $200. How good are these new updates? Let’s find out in our Samsung Galaxy A12 review.

There is a new version of this device: Samsung Galaxy A14 5G here. It features a design inspired by the Galaxy S23, ditches the ultrawide camera and sticks with the tried-and-true Dimensional 700 processor for another year. Check out our Samsung Galaxy A14 5G review.

Samsung Galaxy A12 Review: Slow And Steady Does Not Win This Race

Samsung introduced its Galaxy A12 in November 2020 as a direct successor to the Galaxy A11, before bringing it to the US in April 2021. It was replaced by the Galaxy A13 series.

The Galaxy A12 offers a total of six different configurations to make it one of Samsung’s best budget phones, starting with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. However, only three (listed above) are currently available in the United States. Whichever way you go, you’ll also have access to four color options – red, blue, black and white.

Our Samsung Galaxy A12 comes with Android 10 on board, although an update to Android 11 with Samsung One UI 3.1 is available via OTA. It also ran the 1 July 2021 Android security patch during testing. It should receive two years of software updates as well as four years of security patches, which should last the Galaxy A12 until the end of 2024 or early 2025. Our unit hasn’t received Android 12 yet, but it should be soon.

Moving past the software, you’ll notice that the MediaTek Helio P35 SoC undercuts Samsung’s entry-level device. RAM and storage options are 6GB and 128GB respectively, and you can go even further with a microSD slot. A 5,000mAh battery and a 6.5-inch HD+ panel tie it all together, while the display features an Infinity-V notch. In India, there is a variant that replaces the Helio P35 with Samsung’s own Exynos 850 chipset.

This time, Samsung removed the wired headphones from the package, although it still offers a USB-C charging pad and cable. You get a SIM extraction tool and a basic getting started guide if you need help getting started. The Samsung Galaxy A12 is also available on Verizon, US Cellular and AT&T.

Budget phones seem almost set to add mirrored backs and fingerprint magnets to give it a premium appearance. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy A12 bucks this trend, opting instead for a matte finish that feels smooth in the hand. I also appreciate the raised diagonal lugs as they add some extra grip to the overall design.

The large 6.5-inch display means a good grip is essential if you hope to drop the case. Even though the display supports HD+ resolution, it’s still big enough and fast enough to catch up on your latest shows. We’ll always appreciate a headphone jack, and wired headphones are the best way to enjoy sound on the Galaxy A12 as opposed to a monaural downward-firing speaker.

Samsung has also decided to leave the Galaxy A11’s built-in fingerprint reader a thing of the past. Instead, the Galaxy A12 uses a side mount option, which is much faster, easier to use and improves the overall look of the device.

Samsung Galaxy A12 Review, Pros And Cons

The side-mounted fingerprint reader and matte finish give the Galaxy A12 a clean look and premium feel.

A Samsung camera array adorns the back, topped by a 48MP primary camera that performs very well for a budget camera phone out there (see samples later in this review). For added flexibility, you can also use macro and ultra-wide cameras. Navigating the camera app is pretty easy, although it will take a few minutes to find the macro button because it’s hidden in the More tab.

Samsung’s One UI is one of the best Android skins on the market right now, and it’s as good as the Galaxy A12. Specifically, Samsung’s free app is similar to Google’s Discovery Channel, but with a unique twist. Instead of just offering news, Samsung brings together Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Podcasts, Tabula News and Instant Games for free. The best part is that you don’t have to spend a single penny on it.

The Galaxy A12 is also a battery wizard, at least when it comes to battery life. I had no issues with the power for a good two days of use between playing light games, answering emails and browsing social media.

Samsung’s free app might be a nice addition to the overall package, but Samsung didn’t stop there when deciding how much to add to its Android lineup. Unfortunately, the Galaxy A12 has a bunch of extra apps that take up a lot of space. It comes with a full suite of Google apps as well as Samsung apps that create a lot of redundancy. There are even Microsoft options like Office, OneDrive and Outlook. You’ll also come across the Samsung Shop, the Galaxy Shop, and the Galaxy Store – how many people really need two Samsung Shops and an alternative to the Play Store?

The good news is that you can at least remove the Microsoft-based software, but it won’t do much to help the Galaxy A12 lag. The MediaTek Helio P35 isn’t always up to the task of powering the 6.5-inch display, and switching between apps only slows things down. The limited RAM and storage doesn’t help, so you might want to look at the 4GB RAM/64GB version if you can find it.

Three different sets of apps, two different app stores, and a couple of Samsung stores is a lot.

While Samsung has packed a solid main lens into the Galaxy A12, the interesting peripheral options aren’t always in good shape. The macro lens only offers 2MP and it took a few tries to get a fast enough image of the sample below. You also won’t find a dedicated night mode on the Galaxy A12, so you’ll likely have to do some trial and error during the day.

While all phones add a bit of magic after pressing the shutter button, the final result of photos taken on the Galaxy A12 was often significantly better than what the camera app showed. For example, the low-light photo below looked noticeably darker when I pressed the shutter button, and in comparison, no photo looks as clean as you see. In most cases, this ends up being a pleasant surprise, but it makes judging your shot a bit more difficult. Portrait mode is also bad at edge detection, as you can see in the swatch around my hair.

Samsung may have packed a powerful battery in its Galaxy A12, but the 15W charging speed is quite slow, even for such a cheap phone. I was able to go from 3% to 23% charge in just 30 minutes, and a full charge took two hours.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is a solid upgrade to the Galaxy A11 in almost every way. This budget phone offers a decent 48MP primary camera, excellent battery life and Samsung’s crack and attractive One UI software. Unfortunately, the on-screen camera lacks power, and performance lag can be disappointing, but these are expected compromises at this price point.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is an upgrade from the Galaxy A11 in almost every way and is perfect for first-time smartphone buyers.

It’s been a while since the Galaxy A12 was launched, and Samsung’s budget phone has changed a few times. Samsung is working on the Galaxy A14 5G ($166 at Amazon), which is equipped with a Galaxy S23-inspired design that feels much more premium in the hand. The new model is also set for a few more software updates thanks to a 2023 release date. You can also check out the Motorola Moto G 5G ($199 at Amazon), which occupies the same spot in Motorola’s lineup. It has the same plastic design and 15W wireless charging, though it doesn’t keep up with Samsung’s updates. Another option worth considering is the OnePlus Nord N300 ($228 at OnePlus). The cheapest Nord is all about simplicity, with just two rear cameras and a clean black design. It is also the first in wired charging speed.

The Galaxy A12 picks up where the Galaxy A11 left off, with an extra camera, a bigger battery, and a newly textured back panel. Get yours with the Infinity-V display and see what Samsung can do. last chance
